Dec 1, 2012Got some more work done!Posted in: Screenshots
Aztecing on the lower saucer is done.
Secondary hull shell is being worked on, this way I can mirror and adjust objects before decks get thrown in.

Nov 28, 2012EurobeatJester posted a message on ConfuseACat's Shipyard --- Updated 24/04/15 --- Several New ShipsI'm just in awe over how awesome these ships are. Fantastic job!Posted in: Screenshots
Nov 28, 2012Finished the aztec pattern on the top half of the saucer except for around the bridge, which comes later. The aztec pattern is very close to movie accurate. I was able to download a set of aztec patterns for a movie-accurate model kit that someone on the starshipmodeler forums was nice enough to create. The only difference between the one on my model and the movie version is that several sections were mirrored both in the template and on the model itself. Hope you guys like!Posted in: Screenshots
Nov 26, 2012Started working on a custom texture pack, here's the progress so far...Posted in: Screenshots
Still tweaking it a bit to get the colors I want, a mixture of the bridge from Wrath of Khan and the ending of The Voyage Home...
Nov 24, 2012Found a wonderful repository of TOS movie era Okudagrams and LCARS screens. I'll be making my own texture pack for this, while still keeping it MineTrek compatible, hopefully. Lots to learn!Posted in: Screenshots
Nov 23, 2012One of the many fun problems I mentionedPosted in: Screenshots
There's also a huge error in the different shuttlebays from the different version. In TMP it's completely open up to the cargo hold in back, but in the deck plans of the A there's a freestanding turbolift right in the middle and you never see the cargo bay. I would cut it out, but without it there's no access to several decks.
Engineering's another fun one. You only see the reflection of engineering through wobbly plexiglass, and it's clearly exact same set as the Enterprise D, blue tube and all.
Nov 23, 2012Thank god I can use MCEdit to copy over the symmetrical bits. I've found that when I was working on D deck and E deck, the nice concentric rings don't work too well and I have to redo the layout to include the bathroom, workdesk, and bedroom. Things are going to be even tighter when I do the enlisted quarters, but I may take a break and focus on engineering or the shuttlebay. There's a lot of inconsistencies between the movies, so you have to pick and choose what you're going for. Most of the sets for Star Trek 5 and 6 were window dressings of TNG sets, which is funny because you can see on alot of the doors and some of the bridge consoles that they have TNG era markings.Posted in: Screenshots
Nov 23, 2012Yep, that's because I'm using the Minetrek texture pack since this was originally intended to be dropped into that server. I may change the LCARS to a custom texture pack in the future before I finish it (optimistically in a few months time)Posted in: Screenshots

I've been debating to get Minecraft for quite a while now. I've seen some amazing structures, redstone computers, and the like, but I have a very addictive personality so I've refrained from diving headfirst.
That changed when I saw the Minetrek server. I ponied up the money almost instantly.
I've been a pixel artist off and on for indie games for about ten years now, and I saw the method that halkun and the other talented builders on the server used for making large ships. I thought "I wanna do that!"
I've always been a trekkie, and while the Galaxy class is beautiful, to me nothing matches the pure sex appeal of the Enterprise from the movies (the Constitution refit.) I ended up finding cygnus' website with deck plans, and in a few days sketched out all the decks from top to bottom - then had to redo them because the vertical spacing was too small - she looked like a pregnant whale, and the interior would have been way too cramped.
I decided to scale the ship up by about a third, in order to make 3m high corridors without a slab floor, and so there would be proper scaling of the decks in the saucer section.
I'm working on things slowly, adding detail as I go. I plan to offer this for download when it's finished, along with having it imported into the minetrek server.
The ship isn't perfect but I'm trying to make it as accurate as I can!
Here's some screenshots...

MCmap rendering of all the decks layered in as a test fit, seeing what needs to be fixed...and having to rework the pixelart quite a bit.
D deck test, building up the walls before dropping it into the saucer.
Used pixelart to shape the saucer layer by layer for all its decks. D deck is imported in this picture with the top of C Deck sticking out

Currently decks A through E are done and fully furnished for the most part. The big monster will be F deck, with it's 163 enlisted quarters. I hope to have that done in the next few days.
What do you think so far?
