That's it? No wonder I play modded minecraft instead of vanilla when this is all they put out.

Could someone tell me why there are so many snapshots on Minecraft vanilla? I've always played modded and therefore the packs don't change as quickly, but I look at the news feed on this forum and all I see if snapshot dolphins, snapshot kelp textures, snapshot tropical fish, etc. Please excuse me, I don't mean to be negative, but those seem to be extremely minor, if not irrelevant changes, that could all be lumped together.

I am probably the only person in the world who does not care in the slightest about this addition. IMO, there are far better things to added to Minecraft than turtles.

Just look at Don Quichote: the entire thing is the story of a guy that has read so many chivalry stories that he's gone crazy with it and thinks the real world obeys the same rules as the books, leading him to all kinds of misadventures. All that because everyone knows that books are bad for you and they rot your brain and you're never going to learn how to be normal if you just sit in front of that #*@ book all day!
Your post made me think of the guy I met once who spoke like he was in a fantasy novel. He was well spoken (at least according to the genre), knew lots of big words, and had the confidence level that keeps someone from being a "nerd." Regardless, the guy sounded like a big goofball every time he opened his mouth and you constantly found yourself stopping to reorganize what he said into "today's vernacular."
I don't think video games are negative in and of themselves, but when it comes to kids growing up, they should be outside more than they are in front of the screen. This coming from someone with a 5 year old who is more addicted to Skylanders than crack.

I am a modded survival player who primarily builds tech structures and I enjoy reaching automation milestones. I guess you could say it is much like what I do every day at work, continue to take steps forward despite adversity. Whether the problem is not enough iron, the blood moon rising, or an upset client, you have to be able to see the bigger picture, analyze the problem, and decide what the next step is.

My advice is to build a small 5x5 home right away made from wood planks. These are the most abundant material in the beginning. the 2nd item you need are torches. By now night is probably starting to fall, so head underground from inside your home. Yes, from inside your home. Start digging your steps downward and look for iron (or copper / certus quartz if you are playing modded).
When you come back to surface you will have plenty of cobble to make some furnaces, I like to have 3-4 of them. In the beginning power them with wood planks, again these are your most abundant resource. Your next step should be a food supply. Set out with the intention of looking for sheep (wool for a bed plus mutton for food) but start whacking the grass as you go and pick up the seeds. Watch your geography carefully, don't get lost. When you get back to base set up your farm (stay away from carrots, they are the worst food) and get yourself some storage chests if you haven't already.
Now that you have the necessities of life (food and shelter), start looking into power generation and automation of mundane tasks. I recommend branch mining at height 11 for diamonds. You will of course also get iron, coal, and other goodies. The next milestone is diamond tools / weapons / armor and obsidian so you can go to the nether.
Beyond these things, the best advice I can give you is if you are playing vanilla minecraft, don't. Go download FTB Infinity or AT Resonant Rise and really open up your game. Hope this helps.

I don't know about anyone else, but I have spent hours sifting through the mods on curse.com 1 at a time. Sounds like a lot of work, but if it gets me the results I want, its worth it.

I also encourage you to think about how you have fun in Minecraft and then advertise to THAT TYPE of player. For example, the best MC world I ever played was FTB Infinity with 1 other guy. We started a brand new world, logged in at the same time, lived cooperatively, shared resources and projects, It was so much fun. The neatest part about it was we that even though we are both long time modded players, we both taught each other something. He had no idea you could make such badass weapons in tinkers construct and I had no idea you could make fantastic armor so early in the game (I think it's called flux plated? Yellow colored armor with red on it)
Right now, I am personally super excited about the Advent of Ascension pack. If I could find someone who would play FTB Infinity + AoA or Resonant Rise + AOA with me under the above conditions, I would probably buy a server tonight lol.

You have to think of your server like a job. If you don't advertise, no one will play. When people do come to play, they fall into 1 of 3 categories. 1) Love everything about the server and is there until they reach "their end" or the server shuts down, 2) Casual players who show up every now and then or play for a few days and then stop, 3) The player who always sees the grass as greenier on the other side of the fence. You also have to decide what kind of people you want on your server: personal friends you know in real life, a small, private server for a handful of strangers you get to know online, or just a shot gun blast of whoever wants to join. Always begin with the end goal in mind, it will help you make all of your decisions.
I personally stopped trying to play on people's servers since they always do something to annoy me and I end up leaving lol.

It also depends on if you are playing modded or vanilla. I would say for vanilla you are going to get 20-30 people, where as if you are playing a kitchen sink mod like Infinity or Resonant Rise, you're going to get about 5.

I recently downloaded the Advent of Ascension mod pack and read the "getting started". One of the very first things it says is do not walk to a monster you are not familiar with. I loaded in, hey what is that.... loading, please wait.

Vanilla Minecraft = noob story.

Aside from looking nice, why don't you download the iron chests mod and fit all that into about 5 chests, or applied energistics and fit it into 1 block.

Because all of the good mods are made for 1.7. I will stay in 1.7 until you can get kitchen sink mods for higher.

I start all of my single player games with a staff of draconic power, but it is also the only item i give myself for free. Is it cheating? Yes. Does it make the game I am playing more fun for me? Yes. I hate mining 1 block at a time and I probably wouldn't play if I had to.

Exactly.

What you don't get is your mom isn't giving it to you for a reason.

All I hear is entitlement. You could try earning the money with a job, or at the very least, cleaning up around the house.

I've never been banned from a server, but then again I don't play on public servers either. My question is why would you bother to appeal the ban? If the admins don't want me there, oh well, I really don't care.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there isn't much you can do. You can't force Mojang to do anything about it and you consider a lawsuit... well, just remember how much Mojang sold MC for. My best advice is suck it up, redouble your security efforts, and move on.
