posted a message on Railcraft 9.2.2.0
Ive always used this mod, but hardly ever get any use out of it. it lacks focus, it has more to do with a million other random things than it has to do with rails...like Forestry, it wouldnt even exist if other mods that actually do stuff arent installed and it adds a ton of unrelated items most people never use. Suddenly everybody needs a steam boiler. When did it become difficult to generate limitless power? Why am I feeding fuel to the boiler when I could just feed it to the damn engines? What a reduntant and pointless spiral that is. Ive seen a couple of his youtube vids Im sure covert jaguar is a nice guy, but this mod is almost as old as IC2 and almost as dated. it needs to get with the times or die.

posted a message on Highlands, Extrabiomesxl or biomes o plenty?
I personally think BoP is ugly and garish most of the time and the other times it looks like vanilla minecraft. Extrabiomes I only played because the alternative was so bad. Highlands is definitely the best one. I mean what do you want in a biome mod? You want nice looking scenery thats what. Nobody else designed trees anywhere near as natural and pretty as sdj64 did, and what he has done with the landscape is equally impressive. I wouldnt let any of the competitors' biomes into my highlands worlds ever.

posted a message on Mod Making Suggestions
Id suggest if you are going to piggyback off of another mod you should focus mainly on Thermal Expansion. Its extremely well thought out, elevating the ideas only hinted at by the older tech mods. First thing that comes to mind is adding more by-products to ore processing. Maybe some industrial pollution? Id suggest that you not over-complicate things, avoid tedium and try to make it fun because not everyone wants to read an entire wiki. but how to do that is something only a few modders seem to have a grasp on.

This mod has always, without fail, no matter what version, caused crashes. A lot.

posted a message on Fossils and Archeology Revival Legacy Thread
I would really like to see this mod succeed. I believe Ive stated before that archeology is something that fits perfectly with minecraft. And not to mention being able to CRAFT new creatures is preferable than having them running around everywhere being noisy, annoying and useless. The old author seemed to be a guy with a vision, even though he never bothered to give the mod a decent name, the art and the concept was very sound. These new authors I hope can finish what he started, focus less on adding new content and streamline what is already there. Consider the other popular mods in the FTB packs and such, ramp up your game, get some respect and join the big boys. FTB needs something like this.

posted a message on Thaumcraft 6.1.BETA26 [no longer being developed]
Ok I am now a thaumcraft 3 pro, and I see how the previous version was almost incomplete even though it was awesome. There just wasnt enough reason to even bother collecting bottled essence other than how cool it looked in the jars. Plus having to carry around a ton of items seems to be solved in this version just by swapping wand foci. ive actually thought about this way more than I should, how in the early days Buildcraft must have been amazing, but gradually it dawned on people that it just wasnt all that well planned out and in the end the only thing all that power gen was good for was a quarry, and hardly worth the effort. I think Thaumcraft was an attempt to do it properly this time, and its succeeding.

posted a message on [1.6.4] Team CoFH Mods - Thermal Expansion 3.0.0.0
Ok I had to sign in to give my thanks for this awesome mod. Earlier in this thread or probably an older thread now closed, I expressed some negative and as it turns out, wrong opinions. I just didnt know what I liked about modded minecraft until I spent many many hours playing with them. Now, Im still stuck on 1.4.7 but as soon as this mod and a few others update Im moving on finally. What I have seen of thermal expansion 3 in direwolf's videos impresses me greatly. Its about time a tech mod sees the big picture and does what Azanor tries to do, which is give minecraft a true sense of progress and achievement beyond just building a nice house or crafting a machine just so you can craft a machine which will finally let you craft a machine. Even though flight and item transport has already been done, azanor did it his way and some people appreciate a cohesive experience. I hope for something akin to taint in future updates, aka industrial polution. I am looking forward to playing Minecraft within the well thought out rules and boundries Thaumcraft 4 and Thermal Expansion 3 sets for me.

posted a message on Metallurgy - Putting the "Mine" back in "Minecraft"!
I have to say, I used to be very skeptical about this mod. With all of the other mods I use, theres already a lot of ores. But one day I realized that you can make bricks from the ingots, at a 1 to1 ratio. Once I applied some HD textures of my choosing to them, it really enhances the game having something reletively hard to aquire to build with and gives the game the sense of achievement it lacks once you get the tech mod infastructure going. my last install I left out the fantasy and nether metals but next time they are all going in.

posted a message on Looking for a mod
Theres the Portal Gun mod from Ichun which is prohibitively expensive to craft (nether star) but you find in dungeons fairly often. Its the most valuable mining tool ever. Place a red portal at home and a blue one when your inventory is full. Theres also mystcraft which is not really a teleportation mod perse. Its mainly about a complex process to create custom worlds but a very popular use for it is to create a linking book portal room in the nether where you can fast travel to points in the overworld.

You could use a different launcher like MultiMC or the FTB launcher that make what you are asking for easy.

Heres some screenshots of one of my 1.4.7 worlds. You can see some highlands redwoods in the outside shot. I gradually over months added many textures from other authors on top of the John Smith pack like the high tech versions of metallurgy metal bricks (something sorely lacking from the world of tech mods) I used to build the basement. if I didnt like the way something looked, I changed it. This investment of time paid off and increases the fun quotient for me about 50 percent and is why Im not ready to update. FTB and the like are so popular, its just a matter of time til it gets some comprehensive texture support and I can repeat the process once more.

My thread got replies! Sorry guys Ive been busy. I really shouldnt set such a negative tone though. We all should make use of this section, both people new to modding their minecraft and those who know configs and id conflicts like the backs of their hands. Now I have a bit of catching up to do since Im the one who started this thing after all. :)

Prior to 1.6.4 I just downloaded and installed mods on my own and am sure you guys are aware how much of a pain that can be. With so many new interesting mods it seems like a good idea to let someone else lay the groundwork for me this time. Although after some experimentation I think I am sticking with 1.4.7 til things settle down and more importantly mod texturepacks or whatever they are called these days lol. Ive put a lot (a LOT) of effort into and personalizing and beautifying that version and Im spoiled by the shiny.

I like my game to look good which is the main reason I like highlands. The tree design is the main selling point for me but the biomes themselves are wonderful too. Everything simply looks more pretty and natural and varied than the other guys in my opinion. Generate a pure highlands world and see for yourselves.
