Well Im confused so Ill just ask. What article are you referring to?

There was an article recently released that basically took all the known scale impressions from Tyrannosaurus and related Tyrannosaurids and compiled them together to try and understand the animal better. Scales from Torbosaurus, Daspletosaurus, etc.

Long story short: The Media went ballistic over this, saying that this means that Tyrannosaurus never had feathers, despite the fact that Paleontologists knew of these scale impressions for a long time, even when they proposed feathers on Tyrannosaurids, and this article was just describing them.

I'll try to find the article again.

If I disable mature spawns in a survival world with no cheats, will I still be able to encounter eggs and facehuggers on occasion? I want to do a world that I can hunt xenos and have to destroy the hive but without having to fight off 50 million every night. If that won't really happen then I'll probably cut down the spawn rate or creative mode a queen in

I think that's the case, but only for the facehuggers. As far as I am aware, the only way for eggs to spawn naturally would be to have a queen present.

Alright, there has been a pretty unexpected change of mind here, most of the stuff I said here was from trey the explainer, there is a group on facebook known as Paleoworld and it is dedicated to giving people accurate information about dinosaurs, and they supported feathers on tyrannosaurus, alongside trey, now they don't and I'm with them and not trey.

Well, obviously not because in the article talking about this specifically said that this doesn't confirm that Tyrannosaurus was completely scaly.

That's right, Paleontologists have actually said that this find does not mean that there were no feathers on Tyrannosaurus, that nothing in regards to this has changed.

Why start a new mod when you could just help us with ours?

Not to mention if you wait a bit more, there will be a big Covenant-themed update right after the initial port. For proof

As well as several updated models for certain other already-in mobs, such as the deacon, trilobite, and belugamorph, and more

Not sure about Ri, but I would easily be an 8 or more on that scale.

Not to mention I have several structures in my modpack (check signature) based around Prometheus and Covenant, such as the derelict, an engineer mound, as well as a new one based off the cave in Prometheus where they found the coords to Varda, and I'm in the process of making a large modular maze structure based around the city and catacombs from Covenant.

Well, nice Protomorph Texture. The Proto-Hugger with the proboscis does unsettle me a little bit for some reason. Good work.

I'm not at all rejecting the presence of feathers, but I am considering it. And I am not rejecting phylogenetic evidence either, One thing is for certain, trex DID have feathers, but nature works in weird ways and rejects the useless things and favours the most useful things, it can also reject feathers if it wants. Phylogenetic evidence may be only evidence, but we have scale impressions. If you take a look at certain species of birds, you'll notice that they have feathers on their feet, between scales. So if tyrannosaurus had feathers, and we found scales, then there is 5% chance we'll find feathers preserved. The tiny feathers are too fragile for preservation. Also do note about climate, Hell Creek wasn't a hot swamp like many people think, temperature could drop pretty low. And you cannot compare feathers on reptiles with fur on mammals, both the things work differently and both the things have a different body covering amount on animals that needed them. Mole rats have extremely low quantity of fur because they have a different anatomy, mammoths have a giant amount of hair because of the climate they lived in, and humans have a low quantity also, because of clothing and in humans there is less need of fur. Ostriches have no fur on their legs or heads, like some species of vultures they share the same environment with, due to the hot weather. Edmontosaurus was completely scaly with a knobby thick skin living in hell creek. Tyrannosaurus has tiny scales that would seem like bare skin at a distance but would support feathers in between. We do know this that the lower part of tyrannosaurus would be scaly, following the saurian reconstruction and EVERY OTHER THEROPOD SKIN IMPRESSION FOUND. And their are tid bits of skin imprints on the body, saying scales (should be feathers in between too).

Feathers are good at keeping an animal warm, as well as keeping the animal cool. So there is no reason for Tyrannosaurus to not have feathers in Hell Creek.

I wasn't comparing feathers to fur, I was saying that, on a phylogenetic standpoint, they work similarly. If the Basel members of a clade have them, you have to prove that the more advanced members did not have them.

For example: the most basel mammals have fur, so it's safe to say that all mammals have fur unless we have Fossil evidence to say otherwise.

Same goes with feathers. The basel Tyrannosaurids have feathers, including some more advanced members, so until we have a scale impression along the back of Tyrannosaurus or closely related Tyrannosaurids, we assume that it has feathers.

I've already posted this on the wikia, but I'll post it here too.

I'm the type of guy that sticks with accuracy only, feathered rex is not proved yet, neither is a completely scaly rex, so at the current moment both are accurate. I wanted to share this, it is a chart by my friend representing scale impressions of not just tyrannosaurus, but other tyrannosaurids as well. This does not rule out the possibility of tyrannosaurus not having feathers though. If others had no feathers, doesn't mean that rex didn't have none either. But in all respect, all evidence points to scales only. Also, this chart has been seen and approved by real paleontologists (see bottom left) Pic 1

    Now, about triceratops

In case you people don't know, triceratops skin imprints have been found, and you can see that it had big hexagonal scales and small spikey osteoderms. The imprints come from its bum. XD (pic 2, 3 and 4)

Well, first, you are neglecting the phylogenetic evidence for feathers. Paleontologists say that Tyrannosaurids had feathers, so until they say otherwise, they had feathers. Feathers on tyrannosaurids is like fur/hair on mammals. You have to prove they didn't have them, since the most basal forms of the group had them.

And the chart still has a massive blank spot where we believe feathers exist on the model, in fact the chart doesn't really change anything when it comes to Feathers on Tyrannosaurus.

And if you reject the phylogenetic evidence for feathers, you need to do the same for scales, which leaves only a postage stamp sized pocket on its legs. Not very convincing.

As for the Triceratops, I'm pretty sure we already except that it lacked the quills. Saurian removed the quills from their Triceratops when they took a the tail.

Are you seriously suggesting Ri should throw out 4 months of hard work just to add in the new creatures?

Anyway, more people have been asking for a 1.10.2 update.

Can you guess the date when It will be released???

Considering that, as far as I am aware of, it's taken 4 months to fix all the errors and just start implementing new stuff?

Giving any completion date is inadvisable. (Not to mention that I believe asking for Mod updates and release dates are against forum rules)

Some of his art was concept art that I used for the Ultramorph and Belugamorph, as well as some new non-goo creatures that will spawn on Paradise. As for his other work, or things like early designs for creatures that made it, but were different, then no.

As in I won't do the goofy looking early neomorph design with the big noses, but I plan on doing the minks from Covenant's concept art

Is it strange that I giggled a little bit when I heard of the big nosed Neomorphs, and thought of the MC Villagers being the hosts of them?

Hey I just wanted to confirm, is this mod still planned to come out on 1.10? A lot of mods updating these days have skipped straight to 1.11, and I really was hoping to include this in my 1.10 modpack.

As far as I am aware of, we are going to 1.10.

Would the Amplules the things become some sort of Goo TnT, like how it was dropped like a bomb in Covenant? Or will it be a new block?

Well, if you're wondering what the goo will do when done, it will infect the player, giving them weakness, then eventually start giving them buffs at the cost of having a bloodlust meter go up slowly while they don't kill stuff. The only way to lower the bar is to kill things. If you die as a goo mutant, a feral version spawns at whatever stage you were at before you died.

    Stage 1: Normal
    Stage 2: Slightly mutated:
Stage 3: Fifield, near end of Prometheus.
    Stage 4: Babyhead
Stage 5: Idk, maybe almost xenomorphic.

Hmm. Well, with Alien Covenant Released, perhaps this might change?

Speaking of which, does Ri and Cyber still intend to implement the Alien Resurrection Mutant Xeno strain? I'm not exactly sure what is planned with that, if it is at all. I remember when that was initially planned, back in the far distant past of mod development.

The first update to 1.10.2 is just a port. Goo mechanics will come after.

I am already aware of this. I never said anything otherwise.

Cyber lives in Australia, where it's already out, but that's not affecting the mod release, and the initial 1.10 update will simply be a port, then the new features come in later.

I was not aware of that, but in hindsight it does make sense.

And to clarify, I wasn't saying anything about the mod update itself, I was just talking about zee Goo mechanics and, under my assumption at the time, how Ri and Cyber didn't have much to go on at the time about zee Goo in the films, since Convent had yet to be released.

And i think it could be cool to improve the black goo system with what we can see in the "Alien: Covenant" film if you know what i mean ;)

I'm pretty sure that's planned anyway. Considering that the film has yet to be released in the United States, which is where I believe the modders live, they really don't have much to go on at the moment.
