Mojang mostly stopped listening to people ages ago man. Like around idk 2010 when flint and pumpkins were added?Do you ever see staff in the suggestion board ever? I do think they look in the mod section, because for a while most updates were mods. Pistons, smoothlighting, smaller world file size, hunger, potions, ect.
Twitter is one of the few places they will do suggestions and things. That reddit thread a while back was full of things people have wanted since beta to be added like item frames, wall clocks, cobble fences, wall maps, ect.
Things are just added without the community ever voting on them (Like they always have been). Hunger, skylands being turned into the end, the ender dragon as it is now finished, the mod api put on hold, the code merge. I doubt the community would have voted for any of that.
There does have to be a giant community backlash for something to change like with endermen picking up every block being nerfed. Or maybe it bugs staff friends.

Exoaria posted a message on The selfishness and tantrums of minecraft users...I want to vent about something that angers me so much on Minecraft.Posted in: Discussion
It's the childish tantrums that people throw when things that are perfectly logical go wrong.
I'll start with griefing, and this isn't your typical survival idiots who walk around putting gravel in people's homes. It's about the renegade ops and hackers that take advantage of people's security loopholes.
For example, my server was in offline mode because of a default setting with a host, I have no idea how it got that way. Anyway, a group of people come on unprovoked and pose as me, wrecking everything and blowing things up. This is unprovoked, why do people do this? I don't even know them, it's weird!
Another example is a moderator who started making dirt swastikas, we found him out through LogBlock and he denied it. After taking away his moderator right, he found access to the cp through a node and opped his friend, WEditing away spawn.
Again, another would be what happened today. My spawn got griefed so I give someone that really wanted to help WorldEdit when all my friends are helping me rebuild. He starts building skyscrapers and other ridiculous **** with World Edit, so we take him off the builder list. Next thing you know he just edits the whole thing out before I remove the node and leaves.
What is wrong with these people? Can't they just mature up, and leave people alone who are just trying to give other people a pleasant experience? They have their own servers! Why can't they go on their own servers and do these things, instead of taking advantage of the fact that I am kind to them and let them help, since when do I not have the right to speak my mind and make decisions on my own server, why do these people need to get revenge on me for it?
I don't understand, I'd never do this to someone else so why do they feel the need to do it to me?
We're all people. I just don't know why this happens. -

Getow posted a message on Minecraft's Future: Your thoughtsPeople will always fear and hate change. All the updates have been awesome, in my opinion, and I am at a complete loss as to why there is a huge amount of scalding hate on these forums. Other online communities are a lot friendlier, and I haven't spent much time on these forums this past year because of it. I've been playing Minecraft since early-mid Alpha back in 2010, and I feel the updates add more depth to an already excellent game.Posted in: Discussion
More saddeningly, I have been on these forums since October of 2010, and I've seen a steady decline of the open-ness and friendly-ness of the posts on here. Even people I meet in real life see my cute little pretty farms and act better than me because their ugly cobblestone ultra-high-volume fully-automated ones produce enough food for 10,000 players in one harvest. I feel these forums in particular are becoming sensitive to lots of unhealthy competition, everything is PvP oriented, and all about efficiency. Minecraft isn't a game of numbers and winning, it's a game of deep magical exploration with a tiny hint of cosmic horror for those who look for it.
I think many of the people cool with the recent updates have, like myself, been scared away from these forums. This vacuum has been filled up with what I think must surely be a loud minority of people who disagree with recent changes to the game. I don't think those people are wrong at all, in fact I am very good at empathizing with different sides of arguments, and I know very well that many recent changes fundementally alter how the game of Minecraft is played. I just don't think this forum's war cry of "It Was Better Back In X" is a very accurate representation of Minecraft's financial success in the future.
Minecraft is and always has been a tremendously excellent game. It will continue to attract a great many people in the future, as it has for some time now, and it will forever hold a very highly honored place in the history of video games. -

Arkhangels posted a message on Possible "Sound Packs" in the game?... C418's TweetsAgain a new updated aspect of the game divided the community...The new sounds, just like the new food textures, came to replace the old ones for good. But with textures, people who disliked the change had an option: Texture Packs. The same doesn't work with sounds, as the game checks the original files every session and re-downloads the original sounds if changes are detected.Posted in: Future Updates
But recently C418 tweeted:
"if you want the old sounds back, don't worry. There's going to be an option for that very soon."
(thanks for user "magicferret" for pointing that out)
This is how the game checks for replaced files:
Quote from InsanityBringer
It downloads an XML file from http://s3.amazonaws....ecraftResources, checks what files are on disk, and then compares their file size to the entry in the sound index. If they are different, it redownloads the sound, and then adds the entry to a list so that it can then be used by the game.
A simple design, really, hailing from when Minecraft was played exclusively in a web browser.
Now the questions, now that the game is not exclusively a web browser, does it really have to check every time for original sound files?
Does C418's tweet means a menu option, the removal of said XML checking method, or a new SoundPack mechanic that works the same as TexturePacks (using .rar files)?
I'd love SoundPack integration into vannila, after all:
-Don't like the new sounds? Use a old sound pack!
-Adventure maps could use custom sounds, (just like custom textures), without having to resort to mods.
-People could customize and use their own desirable sounds for the game,
-Simple and quick way of enjoying ambience sounds, just like MATMOS mod.
-etc.
UPDATE: New Tweet from C418 (sept. 21) - Thanks rbailey5 for the heads up!

KHS posted a message on Enough is Enough: Why Jeb's 1.4 is the new Notch's 1.8Before I get into this, I just want to say that I'm not looking for flames- I just want to throw in a suggestion in my own attempt to improve Minecraft in a way that won't negatively affect anyone.Posted in: Future Updates
I agree with the OP that there are problems with the game- it's in the nature of games to have bugs, imbalances, etc (and no, I'm not an expert on every game that has ever been made, so please don't bother to point out if I'm wrong). However, I really think that with Minecraft, the definition of 'bug' or 'imbalance' or 'problem' will vary from person to person. Game devs have to go with what most people want, or what they want if that game is their brainchild, like Notch (although I realize he has a large team now and isn't developing alone now).
I also think that it's perfectly fine to state your opinions, and that's what the internet is for: to get your ideas out there. It's silly to get angry at someone because of their opinions, especially if they're trying to get their ideas for a game out there- no matter how aggressively. In the end, no matter how much you flame each other over the internet, the developers may or may not see any of your ideas, and if they do, they'll still have their own opinions about whether or not to implement them. Tearing people up on this forum is a cheap and silly thing to do.
So, to my proposed solution to everyone's (clearly extensive) problems: why can't there be an option in Minecraft to disable or enable specific features? I mean, look at the options you have when creating a new world: you can make structures (and villagers) go away, you have a few options for terrain generations, you can ask for a bonus chest, and all that stuff. Would it be that hard, from a developing standpoint, to have a specialized menu that could target anything in the game (witches, trading, specific mobs, different items...) to turn off, on, or revert to a previous version when you create a world (like sounds)? When I say hard, I don't mean time-consuming, as it surely would be- although I know NOTHING about coding, I imagine this sort of feature would involve targeting specific folders and such in the game code, which would take a lot of man-hours to link up correctly. A more inconsequential result is that there would need to be somewhere to store all the previous versions of mobs, sounds, etc, either in the game folder or some random 'cloud' on a server somewhere.
This idea would essentially be a more customizable (and maybe more desirable) solution to all those mods out there that 'revert' the game to previous versions. And, if it was more desirable, why wouldn't Mojang spend a little time to get it implemented in the game to improve the satisfaction of their users.
Some things you can fix with mods and texture/sound packs, and customization is great, but the ultimate idea of a mod is to get ideas from the community implemented in the game (excluding texture packs, which have been and always will be great ways to customize your game). I agree with the OP in that you really shouldn't need a mod to play a game like Minecraft like you want. There really needs to be a way to take out the things you don't like in the game without having to worry about updates, compatability, etc.
So, there's my suggestion. I'm confident that a lot of players probably have something that is, in their opinion, 'wrong' with Minecraft. They should be able to fix that problem for themselves. With a game that so many people own, the only solution to making it so everyone likes everything is having a way to modify what they don't like. And sure, you can use mods, and mods are great and always will be used to add new features to the game. But this lack of any ability to take what you want out of Minecraft isn't just something that needs to be ADDED to the game- it needs to be FIXED. Permanently.
I really hope any responses to this will be as well thought-out as I labored to make mine.
Just one thing to point out; I do think that a lot of people have quit playing Minecraft. I mean, it's been years since many people originally bought the game, so, unlike many other posters, I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that a large fraction of the people that own a copy of Minecraft now haven't played it in a while. I don't know any specific numbers, and I think it's fair to say that nobody else does either without looking fairly deep (asking the devs if they keep stats on the number of active players). It's been a few years since Minecraft originalyl came out. People shift from game to game often, especially if something more exciting to them has come out recently.
(In sort of the same vein, I think that many players of Minecraft are more casual and don't ever visit the forums to bring up their perceived problems with the game- if anything, almost all of the people on this forum are here because they love the game and want to be more involved, and the people that don't like it don't play it often or at all, and have no interest in being on the forums.) -

Arkhangels posted a message on Why the New Sounds are GoodAsk Mojang to add the option of SoundPacks.Posted in: Recent Updates and Snapshots
If people want to be attached to old sounds, let them be. There's nothing wrong with it.
The fact that the game forces the new sounds on you, whether you like them or not is the problem here.
You can't simply change the sounds, as Minecraft redownloads the originals when it detects that you have changed them.
People who don't like the new food textures can use texture packs to revert them, but right now the game doesn't let you do the same with sounds.
This is the larger problem IMO. -

Nincognito posted a message on The Updates Are Getting RetardedPosted in: Recent Updates and SnapshotsQuote from Cubia
You mean kinda like how we had the big HALLOWEEN UPDATE awhile back that added things like the Nether and pre-carved pumpkins? Yeah, I can see how that ruined it too.
This analogy isn't very great because the pumpkin was an item, and the nether was a world, both very spooky but not something that you have to use, while the witch and bat are both Halloween mobs that will remind me of Halloween regardless of the time of year, and be there trying to get me whether I like it or not.
The mobs would 'ruin' the game, because you can't stop them from spawning unless you play on peaceful all the time, which would be bothersome. It's something people can't ignore. And if bats are passive mobs, you can't even use Peaceful to remove them. By the way, I think Silverfish Blocks in caves would be super annoying. If you've ever played a Vechs map, you'd know how you go "Oh... sh*t" when you accidentally mine one.
Like FireKit says, some people really don't want to use the new material, but it's inevitable.
How can you stop a ravine from generating in your world?
How do you get rid tripwires but keep Jungle Temples?
How do you get rid of bats, but not witches?
How can you play on a multiplayer server without invisibility potions?
I know someone who still doesn't get the point will say "Use a mod", but there isn't a mod for every single player who plays minecraft, and a lot of people have way more complaints. I'm not proposing a big idea for everyone with complaints. I just see it unfair how people will carelessly tell the players who don't like some features "It's called MCNostalgia" and "Use a mod." -

lost_artz posted a message on i think jeb is trying to make us play a certain wayWhat I don't get it why people on these forums think that they game should be changed for everyone when they don't like how a game mechanic works.Posted in: Survival Mode
If you don't like mob farms, grinders, etc. then don't use them. No one is forcing you to. At the same time don't ruin them for those of us that do use them. There's no reason why my single player world should be affected because you don't like it in your world.
EXP Grinders have been around since 1.8 for crying out loud. ALMOST A YEAR. WHY CHANGE THEM NOW? If leveling up is so damn easy then change the enchantment cap back to 50 and STFU.
That was the mistake. Changing the cap from 50 to 30 and then making exp obtainable from mining any resource blocks, cooking anything, and now even fishing. Not only did it make getting better enchantments easier, it made it extremely faster too.
Frankly Dinnerbone/Jeb need to leave the damn game mechanics alone. It's ridiculous that they feel the need to suddenly change something that's been around for this long. Blah, blah, blah making the game harder. ********. The wither - a push over - kill-able in less than 30 seconds. I know, I've killed him 3 times already. Changing fire spread again? Griefing anyone?
---
TL:DR a game mechanic that's been around for almost a year shouldn't be essentially removed because they feel it ruins the game by making enchanting to easy when they added tons of new ways to get EXP. If it ruins the game for them then don't have to use it. If I want to use it I should be able to. At the very least they should hold an official poll on the matter.
As for adding in features that are basically copied to a T from mods. I don't particularly mind this so long as it doesn't drastically change the feeling of the game. Something like Mo creature's should be kept as a mod rather than brought directly in the game for example. - To post a comment, please login.
