I don't understand this Research Point system at all.
I've successfully researched about three things and I'm already running out of points.
To get more points, apparently I need to either
-travel the world, searching for nodes. That'd give me, what, four points every Minecraft day? And also be super boring?
-research the Deconstruction Table. With the research points I don't have. And I don't know which aspect to use anyway. And the recipes are seemingly random.
-put crystals by my Research Table and wait. A long, long time. I stared at those numbers and didn't see any increase at all, and my desk area is covered in crystals. Maybe they all cancel each other out??
Bonus: the Thauminomicon actually says that crystal clusters have no use. Thanks a lot, lying book.
So the taint is crawling around and I can't fight it without research, which I can't actually do.
And I can't guess what the aspects I don't have are... because that consumes MORE research points.
Have I missed something? Is some weird mod conflict wrecking everything (I'm using ATL)? Is the mod dependent upon killing mobs (as a Peaceful player that makes things a bit more difficult)? Or is the system actually this screwed up?
I'm super bummed out. This feels like a game-breaker.
to get research points you need to use the thaumeter on EVERYTHING.
example is - stone, cobblestone, stone steps - pretty much anything you can make with stone you need to research it (as well as wood and so forth and so on). grass, flowers, leaves, nodes, fishing poles, fish, cooked and uncooked stuff, pretty much everything. You can't learn everything right away though so you need to actually get out there and explore while trying to research. You can also combine the primal aspects together to learn some of the other aspects on the table. (if you learn an aspect out in the 'wild' it will give you many more initial points then if you learn it by using the table)
while the destruction table can aid in getting primals it takes (and destroys) A LOT of stuff to get much of anything though imo its faster then relying on the crystals. For air I use sugar cane (renewable resource that also gives water and terra aspect). The crystals also recharge primal points very slowly but its still good to set them up around your table.
as far as taint...as others have said there isn't too much you can do about it other then digging a trench between it and you all the way down to the bedrock or using silverwood saplings (we just ended up moving entirely to a nice little sakura forest)
use the thaumeter on EVERY node you come across. Most will give you points but some won't if its similar/too similar to a node you've examined before.
