You should try the program I linked first before anything else.

if that doesn't turn up anything, try looking in disk management to check for any unused partitions or unallocated space.

But did you try the program I linked?

EDIT: Regarding the "wipe free space" function in CCleaner, all it does is (attempt) to remove traces of files that are already marked as deleted by Windows. It doesn't delete any files in the sense you're used to.

You could also run CCleaner and/or Window's built in utility "Disk Cleanup" to clear junk files.

70C is completely normal and perfectly tolerable (especially considering this is a laptop). Are you playing with any mods, OP?

A DAC is a circuit that converts a digital signal (discrete, finite signal) to an analog signal (usually voltage, one of infinite resolution). Every motherboard has an ADC (analog-digital converter) for input devices, and a DAC for output devices. It would not be possible to connect any output device to your computer without some sort of signal conversion + amplification to overcome the subsequent impedance.

Not trying to argue. DACs are found everywhere, even where you wouldn't expect them :) They are the essential signal processing module for many modern devices and are used in many, many applications outside of audio.

Well, technically it does - the internal DAC on your motherboard. But for the OP's sake, all he needs to concern himself with is finding and installing the correct drivers, which could very well be the problem.

You need to be more specific regarding your current hardware setup. What type of DAC (interface) are you using? What are the settings on the microphone itself? What type of drivers are you using? ASIO? Until then, I can only offer you generic advice.

In general, you should place the microphone close to your mouth (6-8 inches) and turn the gain down. Doing this will increase the perceived loudness of your voice relative to background noise. If it's too quiet, you can turn it up in post (one of the reasons you should record the audio and video seperately)

Chances are, Audacity comes with a noise gate plugin. Go learn how to use one of those; it can work wonders on recordings with copious background noises.

One last thing, volume, gain, amplitude are all words to describe the same thing - loudness. Different applications will use different terms, so try not to get caught up in the messy terminology.

It will be interesting to see if people will boycott Windows 10 the same way they did to Windows 8. From what I've seen so far, the reactions are 50/50. This begs the question: are "old school" windows users being too homophobic?

In my opinion, it looks like Microsoft did their best to answer people's complaints while maintaining a good amount (if not all) of focus on "universal apps". What more could we want? At the same time, I'm thinking, this new interface isn't helping mouse and keyboard users. It would be nice if they could simply make an updated version of Windows 7.

Anyway, I think it's a little to early to jump on the hate bus. Let's give it some time and see if there are any improvements.

I'll give Windows 10 a thorough chance, but I'll most likely be sticking to Windows 7, since that's what seems to work best with my current hardware. One thing I'm worried about is Microsoft ending support for Windows 7. I know it won't be for another 4 years, but what will happen when the time comes? Will we be forced to accept an operating system designed for the technologically illiterate?

Surely one of the biggest corporations in the world will consider the outcries of its faithful customers. /sarcasm

Another observation. It seems to me that the development of windows 10 wad a little rushed. Since the release of the second windows 8 update, they've only had a little over a year.

This is my ~2 year old build. A little dusty but it plays everything I throw at it, although I don't play games much anymore.

I also plan to add two 250gb Samsung 850 Evo drives. I'm running out of space and I figured now would be a good time to try out solid state storage, instead of simply getting another hard drive.

Games today favor fewer cores more than a lot of cores. This computer will run any game at high-ultra settings. I didn't include the operating system because I don't know whether or not you want Windows 8 or 7. They're both about the same price so it's your choice
