Hey Emp....would you at some point consider making this even higher quality? With the MCpatcher, it allows for that, so in the future would you think about making that a possibility?

Yeah I've toyed with the idea of making a 64x or 128x realistic pack next. We shall see, I still want to keep updating this pack even after release until nothing bothers me about it anymore. Also wanna provide a bunch of alternate textures for cloth, doors, and a few others.

BTW im going by EST, so it might be quite late for you euro players.

can you give a specific time or an estimate? would help me alot for not staying up all night :iapprove:

Not exactly but I will post when I'm getting the final touches complete and will be done and uploaded soon after. (like an hour in advance headsup)

Most of my time developing this kit has been spent play testing.
Here I am trying to figure out wtf to do with cloth. Built a quick design to test a few of my ideas on. I want it to be pretty and decorative, tough job for lo-res.

Having a hard time finding a pattern I like, might just end up with a light tannish plain looking block. :[

edit: this one looks kinda cool

edit2: I will die and goto heaven when notch finally does dyes for cloth, so many possibilities for patterns! all different kinds of wallpapers and carpets for your home! UGH

Yep, all he needs to do is make an injector to insert his code changes to the class file instead of distributing the whole file.

I look forward to using this and the minimap mod in the future. Hopefully he will be able to keep up with most major updates, or notch takes the hint and does it himself.

posted a message on Is it possible to hack the fog distance past current range?
I think its time someone makes a "Very Far" fog distance mod!!!!
considering I get around 200-300fps on far fog, I should be ok with more view distance. (on single player ofc)

The .exe doesn't open for me, and most .jars give me an exception in main class error. (I cant run server files, char skin editors, etc etc etc etc etc)

Only time I was able to run a .jar fine was when hey0 got a persistor.jar to work for me. I don't know exactly what he did. I can post the .jar error I normally get if it would help. I imagine this is related to the .exe not working for me.

Wasn't really sure if I wanted to do black or wood colored cross members on the minecart tracks, opinions?

Jukebox and workbench are started, and yea.
I'll try and get juke and workbench both done tomorrow.

edit: oh and those are one of the new wood door styles I tried, dunno if I like the design more than the old one I had. Kinda want a more refined and clean door with more detail. All the wood doors so far have been a little too gritty and realistic. Anyway more updates tomorrow.

hey i was just woundering will this slow down minecraft at all for me? cause im running it at 70ish fps now and i dont want that going below 30

It will be a very minimal difference if at all. You'll be fine for sure.

Tonight I got the dirt lookin' good, and have the train tracks looking pretty decent, needs tweaking before I show it off. Played with some new wood door styles though I felt they didn't really fit the feel, too realistic. Gonna try and ignore all the finished blocks until the few unfinished ones are done. Still on track for weekend release.

Tomorrow I'll finish up refining the train tracks and have something to show, hopefully finish the jukebox and workbench tomorrow, too.

    night night

This has probably been asked, but will the tools, armor and items be changed?

Possibly in the future I will also do the items and armors, but for now its just the terrain and GUI.

Yeah atgm, I think I mighta kept going back to that grass texture because it has a lot of character, something that monotonous clean tiling textures seem to lack. The thought has crossed my mind to make it more of an intentional patterned tiling texture. I'll do what I can to retain its vibe.

And the bricks and wood sharing similar hues will be kept in mind next time I tweak the color balance.

On tonight's plate: Play with grass a little to clean it up/instill a pleasant pattern. Bring dirt hues up to snuff. Get the mine cart tracks done and decently presentable. Maybe work on red torches.

The planks look much better now. But I would recommend making a small change to the bookshelves. I think you should remove the borders on the sides, but leave the top and bottom. That way when you have several next to each other they tile nicer.

That would look awesome for bookcases that are enclosed like the ones in that pic, but if you put a single stack of bookcases with no side borders it might look strange. I'm gonna play around with the borders a bit tho and see what works.

Worked on a bunch of blocks tonight, squared off the plank edges so they aren't round anymore, Here's a grass texture I played around with tonight, don't mind the tiling issues, haven't bothered to fix it yet because I'm gonna try a few more first.
    *ROUGH PICTURE*

Here's the planks, needs touching up but they look cleaner already.

If all goes well I might be able to release it this weekend. Keep your eye on the thread for daily updates.

The bookshelves look great singly, but I'm not sure how much I like the gap between them when they're stacked, which is what most people are going to want to do, I think...

I have to second some of the early complaints about the plank texture; right now, they look more like popsicle sticks to me due to the rounded edges, which also keep them from repeating properly for other things, like, say, a ship. An alternative with straight planks would be fantastic!

Since you went ahead and made the torches lanterns, why not do something like that for redstone torches? Since they use redstone, which is a higher-class mineral, you could do red mercury in a tube or something steampunk like that.

    Looking forward to this!

I love hearing new ideas and positive criticism, thank you for that. I was kinda thinking something like a black stick with a glass ball on the end for red torches, but I think you are right, another style lantern would probably be best. Maybe an ordain fancy style with a small center that glows red.

The border on the bookshelf Is currently 2 pixels wide, meaning if I made it thinner It would be a plain one pixel border with less detail. Ive thought about doing something with the glass border to retain detail but make them slimmer which I haven't tested yet, which would be to remove 1/2 of a 1 pixel outline like so _| so that when stacked it completes the border, keeping the detail but making it slimmer. Just haven't tried it yet because I'm not sure how they will like when placed single. I will keep that comment in mind and try that idea on both glass and bookshelf.

As for the wood I've gotten several comments about people not really liking it and the more I play the game the more I feel they should be squared off. I want to keep the same off centered misaligned look but square the edges more. Almost got into that yesterday. I know some people like the wood how it is and it will be included in the texture pack probably as an extra un-used block, so people can go in and pick and choose which ones they wanna use.

I have always planned on having multiple designs for several blocks added in on the bottom to make my texture pack customizable.

That said I will officially say my pack will be out before October 31st.
Notch has made the statement that he will be making current torches extinguish over time and also will be adding in proper lamps. I want to have everyone experience my custom lamps before that happens. Once the October 31st update is released I will be hard at work making sure my texture pack is 100% up to date ASAP, before playing and enjoy it.

I look forward to have a proper hanging lamp to retexture!!
