Me and a few friends are getting back into Minecraft and are looking to try a modded series for a change. The more I read on MITE, the more excited I get :). Was wondering if anyone could help me get a server setup for me and a few friends (4 or less) to play? I have ran servers off my PC in the past but it has been a year and I honestly don't even know where to start. If you're willing to help, please send me a PM and we can chat on Skype :).
Me and some friends are getting back into Minecraft (only 2-4 of us). We always go strong on Vanilla minecraft just on a private server for a few weeks and then get bored. Given the countless amount of mods and plugins that are now available, what should we play? I like to think I am fairly good at Minecraft; I am decent at PVP, I can parkour, build, etc. Other friends are average at best (I just don't want something super hard like Blood and Bones). What do you think a good mod, adventure map, or w/e would be for us? I would definitely be happy with multiple suggestions so we have a lot to play!

However, this time around I would like to make a modded survival server to make it a lot more interesting for all of us! So I am here asking for suggestions on mods.
So if anyone has any suggestions on mods they really enjoy in their multiplayer server, I am more than all ears.
For the most part, I am wondering if there are mods or plugins that will add new mobs or ores or bosses to the game. I don't want anything complex like Ars Magica. Just some simple mods that add to the game.
I will also be doing some research on how to install the mods to ensure a smooth transition.
Lastly, a few of my friends have pretty subpar PCs so unfortunately I will not be able to use any resource demanding mods.

Looking to start Skyblock Survival with a few friends. I will host the server myself but am unsure as to which SkyBlock map I should play. Have saw some and most are pretty dated now, don't know if they have changed much over the years.
Let me hear your suggestions/opinions/recommendations on SkyBlock Survival maps. Looking to get started asap!
So I am fairly new to Minecraft (played it for like 2 months about a year ago, and recently started again a week ago). Something I always wanted to do was make a mineshaft (or some sort of strip mine [same thing?]) and transfer/commute using mine carts, rails, etc. Can anyone help me by linking me to good videos or articles? I want to be able to go down and back up via mine cart. Also, how do chests and mine carts work? I can fill a chest then send it back via mine cart so i can stay down? Please help! I am so new to this stuff!
I am VERY new to minecraft servers. Not just hosting my own, but using them at all. Me and a few friends decided to start playing minecraft again (some for the first time, some with very little experience). I am trying to setup a bukkit server since I have been told they are optimal. I believe I followed all steps correctly but still cannot even connect to my own server (by typing in localhost). The ports are open and I am 99% sure I have the most up to date bukkit server. I also downloaded and put in worldedit, could this be causing an issue at all? Please help! I can go on skype or team viewer or if there is specific info you would like for me to post here just ask. Thanks in advance!
Edit: I removed ip from server properties now instead of getting polling... can't reach server. I just get "Server out of date". However, I am running 1.4.7? Isn't that the newest (aside from the development builds).
Edit2: So I guess it IS necessary to use the development build.
