I've been considering redoing the banners (again) for a while now, perhaps in a style similar to the banner I made for Pfaeff's Allocator? To see what I mean, the Allocator banner is in my signature, just scroll down.

Ha ha. I was also thinking of doing it like the allocator banner when I posted it. That is a good example. It is more likely to catch your attention with the warm colors. (An animated banner would be cool. I can animate it easily.)

Basic animation is pretty simple to do in photoshop (re: my avatar pic. I drew and animated it). I'm in the middle of packing my life right now though, so we'll have to discuss style and design later, when I have time (and a home) again. ;-)

We need more people to see this if we want it to be changed or at least widely recognized. I suggest a new banner. Not much different, except that we should use more warm colors. Warm colors are a lot more likely to attract people's attention than the neutral colors we have on there.

Great idea, have not played with powered rails yet, so cant pass judgement yet. Sounds like most people think this is better though.
I do have my own topic, and a question: how do yuo post the support tags/banners? I cant post it. :SSSS:

Use the image tags. For example, this image:

actually looks like this when I code it in my reply post:
    [img]http://i.imgur.com/L8ibP.png[/img]

To attach a url, just add url tags.

    + viewtopic.php?f=1&t=102192 =
which looks like this in code:
    [url=http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=102192][img]http://i.imgur.com/L8ibP.png[/img][/url]

You can use these codes in your topics, posts, or signatures to add images or buttons (clickable images that link elsewhere). Also, when you're writing a post, there are tag buttons beside the text formatting buttons that you could use instead.

Hey everyone, sorry for being so inactive lately. I'm in the process of moving apartments (the actual moving date is this saturday) so Real Life has kept me away from the forums for the most part. Once the move is done and I'm settled in again, I should be as active as I was originally, but in the meantime, try not to miss me too much. :wink.gif: If you do need to reach me or feel there's something important I should know, send me a pm. I still check my box regularly and try and keep up with the topic even if I don't post a reply.

In other news, Zeno pm'd me about some issues which I have since taken care of. The main banner apparently went down again (fixed) and the OP is now 100% photobucket-free (imgur now hosts all our image links). I also finally took the time to make and add a dedicated Mod section in the OP and added the latest Minecarts Mk.II Mod build for version 1.5_01. Let me know what you guys think! (Maybe send me a pm though if it's important, since I'm more likely to notice and read it than if you just reply here) That's all for now, wish me luck on my move!

So, let's just say no to any modifications to the preexisting detectors. Please?

I honestly just want to completely replace them with detector blocks. That's just my personal feelings though. >_>

Also to clarify, the wood detector is activated by any cart. The stone detector is activated only by carts with mobs or players in them. I have been unable to come up with a simple, straightforward method of detecting other cart types/status' without resorting to adding additional detector block types.

The easy (not knowing a thing about the coding involved) but perhaps not very straightforward way would be to have your current detectors behave diffrently when it comes across a storagecart, that will however mess upp systems where storagecarts and transportationcarts share tracks.

I can live with 2 additional detector blocks, I think the added potential is well worth it.

Remember, anything that interacts with redstone is binary in nature. It's either on or off, 1 or 0. There's no way to "behave differently" in that regard. Also, I understand that you could live with two additional detector blocks, but Minecraft is extremely limited in the number of block id's and textures that can be added. I've tried to limit the number of additional textures and blocks to a maximum of 4, but even that feels like too much. Jeb's decision to only include two new track pieces may have been a result of this limitation.

Do the built in detector rails do this though? I believe that all it does is detect if their is a cart not, and not what type of cart it is. (btw ill test this later)

You are correct it only detects carts of any and all types without exceptions.

Imagine a detector that gives a redstone signal if the storage minecart is empty and another that fires if it's full.
Hello fully automated mobgrinders and farewell "inventory clearing trips back to base".

Not to mention next release of the allocator will have item filters, yum!

    I also can't wait for Pfaeff's next release. :wink.gif:

Could you explain how they would be combined? I'm afraid I don't understand that part.

(Also, I have yet to test the 1.5 update. I'll have some time this afternoon to play MC so I should have some thoughts on it this evening.)

This is one way (viewed from the direction of travel)
    [] [] []
    :log: :_: :stone:
    :grass: :grass: :grass:

Another way (the one I have in mind)
    [] [] []
    [] :_: :stone:
    :grass: :log: :grass:

    :log: = wooden detector
    :stone: = stone detector
    :_: = the track

Idea is to use both of them on the same trackpiece and combine the outputs with the help of some logic gates.
    Hope that makes sense.

Oh, in that case combining detection blocks is already possible in Minecarts Mk.II. With two detection block adjacent to the same track piece, you can detect if a cart is present or not, and if it is, you can also distinguish whether it's an empty or occupied cart.

This feature was also possible with the old pressure-plate and glitch-booster system although it wasn't 100% reliable due to carts sliding on plates. Since one of the key ideals behind Minecarts Mk.II was to retain (and improve) player options when constructing minecart systems, I felt that whatever method of detection I developed also had to have this feature and thus, I intentionally included it in the detector's design. I've already built a touch-less cart station, a cart sorter, and a runaway empty cart prevention system that makes use of this ability.

It's too bad Jeb decided to disregard this potential functionality and released a detector design that is incapable of any of these tasks.

Then to detect partial load you combine the two.
    wood 1 / stone 0 = empty
    wood 0 / stone 1 = full
    wood 0 / stone 0 = partial load
detector rail = vanilla cart detection

This would however make it tricky to simply detect storagecarts but on the other hand you could use Mojangs detector rails for that.

Could you explain how they would be combined? I'm afraid I don't understand that part.

I suggest PMing any mod about it next time, or Citricsquid if you're not sure :3
The user was dealt with, in any case :3

Thanks for handling it! I would have PM'd a mod, but I wasn't sure which one to PM to, I figured posting here was a safer bet. I know better next time. Thanks again!

    Power Rail!
    http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Power_Rail

We're already well aware of the Power Rail and we've been keeping a close watch on it's progress. So far, based on what Jeb's said about his implementation, we've been given reason to maintain a skeptical outlook on the final result. That is to say, we're continuing work on our project in case the Power Rail turns out to be a disappointment.

[EDIT] I've added this answer to the OP under the "Why do we need this?" section with an additional link to it in the "What is it?" section. Feel free to link people who don't read the OP and ask this to the answer in the OP.

I just received an unsolicited spam pm from some user named "FoxiFox" who is apparently trying to sell a camera or something judging by the youtube video link?! I wasn't sure which mod/admin to pm about it so I decided to post it here. Maybe others have received similar pm's from this user as well. Oh, and I have no idea what this says since I don't speak Russian nor have I ever communicated before with this user.

I don't like getting crap like this in my pm box. Hopefully the mods can do something about this user so we don't receive junk pms from him/her again?

I just watched all your vids and thoroughly read the posts I skimmed over earlier. Frickin' awesome. I feel I should get cracking on my own cart constructions so I can show you some of the ideas I had when I was first formulating the concepts for the project. Also, I'm officially done school for the year (hooray!) so I promise to start overhauling the OP asap with the latest info (gotta add a section about the Mod!).

Also, fredklein's observations confirmed my suspicions about the boosters. They are not directly increasing a carts momentum value. I'm not sure why this is, but maybe mcmodder_07 can take a look?

[EDIT] I've begun overhauling the OP and just finished updating the on/off graphics of each piece. I'm also planning on making a video for each block demonstrating how each part works so this might take a while. I might need reminders of which stuff I should include or remove.

Wow, you guys have been busy! :biggrin.gif:

I'm dead tired after a couple long shifts at work so I only managed to skim over the posts, but I'll get back onto full gear and do updates and responses by the weekend. I know there's a number of things in the OP that need to be updated to reflect the changes in the mod and I suspect mcmodder_07 still needs those textures amirite?

Will do. Also, I just noticed Zenox96 that you were looking for a screen recorder? If you're on a mac, I highly recommend ScreenFlow. It has a $100 price tag but there are, uh, ways to get around that. Note that I'm not insinuating in any way that you should pirate it since piracy is bad and I would never condone such things in this topic. <_< >_>

If you're on pc, the others might have better suggestions for you.
