Sep 15, 2014Ebins posted a message on [Official] Microsoft has Bought Mojang and a message from Notch.Microsoft stole the whole idea of a GUI (aka Windows) from IBM. Yes, stole. They repeatedly push crappy software (Windows 95, ME, Vista), refuse to support older and more stable products (like XP), will NOT allow backwards Windows compatibility UNLESS you own windows 7 & 8 PROFESSIONAL edition, has pushed their OS into world dominance. Trust me, Windows doesn't dominate because of its "usability," power, or stability. They have taken over OTHER franchise games and totally ruined them (Mechwarrior for one), and now they own Minecraft? Can you seriously sit there and tell us that this is GOOD for the community (players and server owners included)?Posted in: News

Sep 15, 2014Ebins posted a message on [Official] Microsoft has Bought Mojang and a message from Notch. You're quite the Microsoft apologist, aren't you? Those of us who have been around since the early days of PC computing know very well how Microsoft does things. I'll bet ya that MS ends Minecraft, then "releases" a Minecraft 2, which we'll all have to pay for (including those of us who bought Alpha and were promised free updates for life) because it'll be a "new" game. Then they'll release it for $60 and it will ultimately be horrible. Microsoft took over the Mechwarrior computer franchise and destroyed it, they'll do the same to minecraftPosted in: News

Jun 24, 2014Ebins posted a message on EULA Revisited: an Updated Q&A From MojangAlright dude, I'm not responding to any more of your posts. Its obvious that you don't understand what I'm trying to bring across. You don't know what a family server is, and you expect 8 year olds to pay to play (else they're not supportive). Sorry, that's not true. These "non-supportive" people have done a lot to spread the word about my server, to keep voting for it, and everything else they possibly can. Yet, because they're too young to afford to "keep the server going," - you assume, and wrongly. I run the server for them, the ones who are loyal. I have always accepted donations, in addition to them purchasing ranks. We all know that its very hard to get donations, and I don't blame the people on my server for it. I know that a lot of them simply don't have the money, and that perhaps paying $5/month for a rank would probably be easier for them. But I'm through wasting words with you. You have no idea what I'm trying to say, and keep repeating the same stuff over and over again. Mojang basically killed my server.Posted in: News

If they don't care about you or the server enough to just donate, without expecting a "rank" in return, I say, close it down.
If they care about your server, and want to keep it up and running, wouldn't they continue to do business as usual?
I fully understand your point of view, no need to call names and make assumptions.
I'm sorry, but I fail to see where I called you any names...? You just seem so supportive for Mojang, that to you, they can do no wrong (at least, that's how you come across). Sorry if I'm wrong on this matter. As to people not caring enough about the server to donate, please let me restate that its a Family server. I don't know if you've ever played on one, or ran one, but family servers are "safe places" for kids to hang out without worrying about someone cussing in chat, griefing, etc., etc. When the server was set up, it was initially so that my daughter would have a safe place to play. Over time, lots of other kids joined. Some of them are as young as 8. What am I supposed to do? Should I tell them to break their piggy banks, or spend all of their allowances just to play on my server? Sorry, but I won't do that. Personally, I have never "made a buck" off the server, since as I stated in the previous post that I used everything for the server only. Yes, there are some "pay to win" servers out there, but my server isn't one of them. Every new member can do everything except teleporting to others (they have to use /call instead of /tp), fly, or set multiple homes/world. That stuff is what the ranks buy, basically. My players have always had access to everything else, including a towny world where once they buy a plot (in game boseEconomy money), they can be creative and do what ever. In addition, I have a game world that's free to access, a PvE world (main world) and a PvP. Suffice it to say, all my users have plenty of options to have fun. I don't think I'm "sticking it" to anyone. And I feel that its unfair to me and my users, that you'd group us in with PTW servers. I'm somewhat offended by that. -

If your player-base likes you as the server admin, likes the server in general, they should conform to the new ways.
Also, Mojang isn't saying you can't ask for monetary help. It's what you do as the "thank you" that is restricted.
I run a Family server. that means, most of my players who log in are kids/teenager. Yes, there are a few adults, but not the entirety of the base. I have never used a cent donated to the server for anything other than the server. And since mostly kids play on it, they can't afford to donate or what ever. That's why I always let the server be 100% free. No one ever had to pay to log on, but I have depended on donations (or monthly rank purchases, etc.) to keep the server up and running. So, you tell me, Rampage_x, how I'm supposed to charge a "monthly fee?" My server population will lose 90%, and only about 5 people could play if I use a monthly charge. Does that sound fair to you? Or are you just a mojang apologist? -
Jun 24, 2014Ebins posted a message on EULA Revisited: an Updated Q&A From MojangI'm sorry, but this is b******t! I'm disabled, and run my server for the community. Because I'm disabled, its very hard for me to pay monthly fees for a fast internet connection, the energy bills for keeping the computer constantly running, and for maintenance costs (for example, I use no-ip.org for my domain name because I have a dynamic IP). You have to pay them to get advanced features. To help with this, I've added a donation link (which is hardly ever used), and the ability for players to purchase ranks (giving them different abilities) or items in-game. I had used the money gained from donations/purchases for contests. Every month I'd hold some sort of contest with the winners winning a copy of a game and ranks for a month. Now, I can't do that anymore. Where am I going to get the help I need for running a server? I've been running the server for 2 1/2 years, have been playing since early alpha, and right now, I'm pretty angry. You guys have made how many millions due to this game? And you won't allow servers to "ask" for monetary help? You do know, I hope, that the main reason that minecraft is such a popular game is because of its multi-player content. Basically, if it wasn't for people like me (server owners), I'd guarantee you that Minecraft wouldn't be as popular as it is. Yet, you're sticking it to the owners. Thanks guys, you're wonderful. Seriously. You're a bunch of jerks, imo!Posted in: News

Jan 7, 2013Ebins posted a message on Minecraft News - The Year's First Snapshot, & MoreUm... as a server owner, I'm STILL waiting for the plugin API which Mojang keeps promising (it'll be out next patch) but never is. Sighs... this is just gonna break the server again.....Posted in: News

Dec 11, 2012Ebins posted a message on 12w49a Snapshot Ready for TestingI'm sorry, but as a server owner, these CONSTANT "patches/updates" are beginning to be really frustrating. A long time ago, you prmoised a new API... its still not here even though you promise it now in January. Fireworks? Really? Plugins are constantly going out of date because the modders can't keep up. Bukkit has been sitting at beta for WEEKS now and refuses to update to a recommended build because of all these changes you guys are making. Hell, mods like silk spawners/spawner adjuster are producing endless pig spawners, and the only thing I can do is turn them off, frustrating my server community. If I leave them on, players have an endless supply of free food.Posted in: News
I can't keep installing the dev builds, because (understandably) the modders can't keep up with all the changes.
But no, we're going to have FIREWORKS (yay!!! - notice the sarcasm?) and some more bug fixes? Are you ever going to fix the lighting glitches where all the signs are eternally covered in shadows unless you're positioned EXACTLY RIGHT? You promised a fix to that long ago too!
I've been playing since Alpha, have been running a server for almost a year, and I gotta say, this is a HORRIBLE way to run a software company! Instead of doing all these stupid "updates," why not get your act together and either impliment the API NOW or stop with all these changes!!!!
But no, the kiddies on these forums are so happy to have FIREWORKS that you'll just go ahead and ignore the rest of the community. SHEESH! Yes, I'm angry and frustrated. Can you really blame me?Quote from RebzO1
They could have waited yes but as stated they wanted us to have at least some of the items before new year.
Your attitude needs a little work imo, if it bothers you that much dont update and wait for jan/feb 1.5
The vast majority of us actually appreciate what the people at Mojang are doing.
You obviously do NOT run a server. If you did, you'd know that EVERYONE updates their minecraft as soon as an update comes out, droppig server activity to almost NILL. This is frustrating for both owners and players who can't log on to play. Yes, we ALL remind them not to update right away, but for the most part, the payers are too "excited" to wait. You sir, are the one who needs an attitude adjustment! - To post a comment, please login.

Are you sick and tired of these so called "survival" servers where you show up, play for a few game days, and suddenly, "survival" turns into boredom? Do you want a real challenge? Then check out Solarius!
Mobs are tuned up to be harder and nastier with special Boss Mobs thrown into the mix. As for planting trees and gardens, well, plant and tree growth are limited to certain biomes. No more growing trees way out in the desert! Breeding is also limited to biomes.
Mechanics have been changed so that you can no longer place blocks right under you, and no more placing blocks into thin air! You have to work to survive in Solarius!
Combine that in with players out for blood, and you have a true survival server! Come to Solarius now and test your skills!

See you there!

I love that last line! "a house is just a shelter and a place to stop over between caving sessions." That's kinda like me, though I enjoy overland exploration. Love that mindset, thanks for your response!

The server is still up and running, and we're looking for new players. Extra hard mode, a great challenge for those who wish to test their skills. Are you tough enough? Find out now!

Hi all. In Minecraft, there are three types of players. They are:
The Explorer - This person loves to see whats around the next chunk, finding precious territory and new challenges.
The Builder - This person loves to make fun and unique buildings and art. They put their abilities to the test by making intricate constructions and complex pixel art.
The Engineer - This person loves working with redstone. They make everything from simple doors to complex computers.
Of course, we all share a bit of each of these, but usually specialize in one. For me, I am an explorer at heart. I can only stay in one area for a limited amount of time. Once I have a base set up to be self sufficient, I usually pack up and look for someplace new. Maybe I'll start out high in the mountains, and then head over to a forest or plains biome. Or perhaps I'll dig deep for an underground base and then build a floating island. Either way, I love to see whats out there, and try to mold it to my needs.
What type are you?

I got the name "Ebins" as a randomly generated name in EverQuest back in 1999. I just grew on me As for a skin, I'm a biker so... kinda fits...

So, you think you're good at survival? You think you're decent at PvP? Prove it! Solarius has gone hard core. Mobs are stronger than normal, with boss mobs, and rare but exceptional loot. You think you can survive? Plants only grow in certain biomes, and animals can only breed in certain locations. Not only do you have to survive other players who are out for blood, but you also have to survive the roaming monsters and powerful mobs.
Team up with others in factions, hire mobs to protect your base, raid other factions, and show that you're the best of the best! Are you a survival expert? Test your skills at solarius now!
Solarius has been around for years, but has recently changed its format. Griefing/raiding is allowed, but watch your language. Abusive players will be banned.
Need extra items? Vote for the server for a chance to gain diamonds and other rare drops!

Solarius has been around for four years, but is now drastically switching its format. It'll be a MMO PVP type server, with numerous quests, events, etc. Of course there are races and classes. I'm basically putting up a new map, and hate to admit, i'm horrible with building. I can code and script.. but.. yeah
Anyway, I have a couple helpers, but looking for dedciated ones with lots of time on their hands. Its a big project, so looking for the right people. If you think this is something that might interest you, the temporary server address is solarius.no-ip.org. I have a domain name on standby, but don't wish to use it until ready.
Self hosting the server on a dedicated 8 core, 4.4 Ghz, 2 TB machine.

Here's a little more information on what I'm planning:
This will indeed be a Minecraft MMO, and this isn't going to be a "short time" server. as I said in the post, I've run one for four years. In addition, I have dedicated equipment for the server:
Fast incoming internet connection
8 core, 4.4 Ghz processor
Liquid cooled
16 gigs of RAM (expandable up to 32 gig)
2 1TB HDDs
I will expand equipment when user-ship warrants. There will be custom quests, equipment, abilities, spells, and much more, with the map constantly being worked on. The server will always be free to play.
Those who dedicate themselves to designing the world and quests will be elevated to the rank of World Admin (sorry, not server admin lol) where they can continue working as they see fit, moderate it, create events, etc.
If this is something you wish to be on the ground floor of, contact me before all the slots close!
