It totally discourages me to even move around at night

I dunno, this sounds like a legitimate reason to keep it this dark.

Open them in OMEN, use the remove indev blocks function, save as a .dat. Rename that .dat to .mine.

I understand it as infdev will replace indev completely. You will not be able to generate maps the way you are now (small, medium, large, deep, long, etc).

Yes and no. Infdev will replace indev. Rather, current indev will be replaced by the infdev code, and infdev will cease to exist as something separate.
And not that this will quell the misinformation, but
INFINITE WILL NOT BE THE ONLY MAP SIZE OMASDFIJQEWIRJGAISF
You will be able to specify limited map sizes. They might not load all at once, like they do now, but they will be limited as they are now (so it would be like infinite in how it loads map chunks, but in actual size like current sizes). I emailed notch a couple days ago to clarify a point on how high maps could get, if the infinite height limit will apply or not. If limited maps couldn't be any higher than 256 blocks like he said infinite maps will be limited.

posted a message on Question from the blog.
I think he means that like infdev islands are now, where they can span multiple map segments, that floating islands will be a lot larger than current floating islands maps and that the places you can peek through to the ground far below will be at the edges of each chunk.

This confuses me. How can they link to my saved game if it's saved to disk? Are we getting Minecraft Server Space or something? Will it pull the save from my game while I play it? I call shenanigans.

From the description I think he means it will operate like a quick-setup multiplayer server, streaming generated map chunks to your friends while receiving and using the position data from their clients to update on your client.

    Isocraft on Myne-formatted maps

Dump it from WoM and use the dumped .dat.

posted a message on Forester, a tree manager
Giant trees (~100) should be decently common in a forest, IE you should see one every three or so generated sections, with medium trees three to four per generated section, and small filling in the gaps. Shrubbery in desert and plains regions, trees in general as common in plains as medium trees in a forest, etc.
Lots of places you can go with this script.

Do you perhaps think you could smack your generators together into a sort of all-in-one filter to add castles, trees, and whatever other awesome things you can imagine in one program? I would really like to see this added to OMEN or whatever other map editor. The world needs more awesome things like this.

I'd just like a working version.

Here ye are. Very unstable, stops responding after a while and requires a restart.

It's been discontinued until Pixeleater has time to fix it, so it's not officially supported right now.

posted a message on Infdev multiplayer? How will it work without extreme lag?
It sounds like everything will be localized to the map chunk. So, the server will only track maps that have players on them actively (storing the rest on the HDD and out of RAM) and the player positions and block changes as such.
A typical human-readable output of server status might look like this:
    Players: 5
    Player0 Youu5 op map1,0 5,178, 67
    Player1 Tillman user map4,5 67,67,23
    .
    .
    .
So the amount of lag in the server would probably be more affected by how many maps you had open than how many players were on, as that would equate to more RAM used for all the blocks.

posted a message on Portals help
To make portals in Mynecraft, assuming you have the server working, simply create the portal frame, decide on your portal material (water, lava, or air) and /phere where you want the portal to exit. Go to where you want the portal entrance and place your portal material (in the case of lava or water, or delete blocks for air). /pend stops the portal madness.
