    posted a message on Rice
Most of the things you listed are Japanese.

The Chinese did not use rice for construction much at all. Nor did it really help them expand as a nation; that would be their complex bureaucratic systems (like the Civil Service Exams, if I recall correctly) and huge population. The ubiquity of rice certainly helped them expand, but it was little more than a staple, not used for trade or construction as the Japanese did.

Now on to the in-game features...

Most of this is completely unnecessary, providing what seem to be nothing more than low-durability versions of things which are already very, very easy to get (walls, doors). The idea of another crop is certainly nice, but I'd go for something a little more creative. Beekeeping, perhaps.

posted a message on Freezing, Temp. Bar, and Wool Cloathing
It ending in death seems a bit extreme. Perhaps being in a snow biome without a coat simply results in your becoming hungry more quickly, as well as a minor speed decrease. Instead of a bar, your screen would just have a 'frosted' effect at its edges.

Wool clothing would, if you wore a at least two items, negate this entirely.

posted a message on Dear Mojang, please complete your promises, and please optimize the game.
You have to understand that not everything a developer originally intends to put into the game will make it to the final release. This is true even for indie games like minecraft which listen and respond to the community. While something may be a good idea when it is originally heard, it may later be cut because it causes glitches or because it's simply more trouble than it is worth to get it in the game. Forcing the developers to add everything they momentarily mention is impractical. I'll now take a moment to address each item on your 'list of promises.'

    - Modding API

No problem here. This ought to be added, third party things like ModLoader shouldn't be necessary for a game like minecraft, though they do serve their purpose quite well.

    Quote from XxPAUNKxX »

    - Lantern

These really aren't necessary. If it becomes an issue of file size, I'd rather have something more interesting.

    Quote from XxPAUNKxX »

    - Fish Mobs

Once more, I could do without it. Fishing is fine as it is, and unless we want to take this somewhere creative, I don't see any point in having a bunch a few more boring passive mobs moping around waiting to be cut up (or hooked in this instance).

I feel the beauty of minecraft is not in the random crap you can put in a room, but rather in the beautiful architecture you can create. While it would certainly be excellent to have these, and they really wouldn't detract from the experience, I wouldn't include this in a list of things needed to optimize the game.

    - There will be quests

This is a touchy topic. All I have to say on the subject is that I think they should be left out. We have enough motivation and enough things to do, in my opinion.

    - Painterly As Official Texture

The only thing Notch was promising here was that he would talk to the creator at some point. Making it the official texture would be to discredit the current artists and make a graphical change which few would welcome openly, myself included.

    - Wolfs that can howl at the full moon

Again, this is really not necessary. Sure, it would be nice, but it's irritating enough whenever mobs get trapped in a cave near my house and whine nonstop until I find them and kill them. Having my kennels uproariously howling in the night would serve only to irritate me.

posted a message on How to make the game optionally harder and more exciteing
I'd say you should have hot weather do a lot less damage than cold weather, and at a much slower rate, considering that it is mostly dehydration and exposure which kills people in high temperatures. Therefore the way to prevent damage would be to drink water or potions.

Perhaps a smoke arrow, crafted like this...

    :gravel: :GP: :gravel:
    :: :|: ::
    :: :feather: ::

It create a large amount of lingering smoke, good for marking locations for other players as well as for blinding players or forcing archers to move in PVP.

    Spears and battleaxes are uncreative.

A maul, maybe. It would deal significantly less damage than the sword, but knock enemies back around twice as far.

posted a message on The Perfect Solution for low Animal Spawn Rates
Another solution: A few new mobs that despawn like old mobs used to, and cannot be tamed. Like jackrabbits, deer, bears and birds, which could be hunted. This would be a slower, more complicated solution, but it would also provide tons of new opportunities for places to get items and whatnot. This means that hunters can be hunters, and farmers can be farmers.

Elk or deer would be nice.

Also bears. You can't tame bears.

Your downvote options are really passive-aggressive and assholish, intentionally trying to persuade people to vote otherwise even though they've almost definitely already made up their minds, while making all of them way too irrational or extreme for people to get behind confidently.

posted a message on Expanded Enchanting
Enchanting, as seen in the beta 1.9.3 pre-release, is fun and useful (Perhaps more of the former than the latter). In order to make it even more flabbergasting than it is now, I feel a few things ought to be added. These include world-effect spells, english summaries of enchantments after they've been made and tomes, each allowing for different changes to be made using the table.

    World-Effect Enchantment

World effect enchantments would do just that, affect the world. Whether it costs two experience points and makes harvest more plentiful/increases cow spawn rates, or costs 10, causing an eclipse which allows hostile mobs to spawn during a day, or whether it costs 20, turning rivers, lakes and wells into a strange, foreign substance for a few days, which increases potion potency. The effects would range from simple and pleasant to lovecraftian and terrifying. Some would call terrible beings into existence, while others would quite simply make it easier to collect resources. None would be downright destructive, as to avoid griefing, and would require hefty level quantities, meaning that griefers would really need to invest themselves in the server before they could use them. Feel free to post ideas for world enchantments as replies.

    Post-Use Summaries

After you use a enchantment, there's a chance you'll later return to the table and forget what it helped you with previously. This would allow you to write in a one or two sentence description for the enchantment, replacing the default cryptic text.

    Tomes

A tome would be a book of enchantments which specifically deals with enchantment of an item. One would work with weapons (bow and sword, as well as specific arrows), another with tools, one with tools and the last for world effects. To make a tome, you would put a book into the enchantment table and choose one of the enchantments. After choosing it, you could place the tome into an alternate box on any enchantment table, allowing you to use special enchantments for whatever item the tome is linked to. A square earth-like world would be printed on an earth-effect tome, a sword crossed with an arrow on the weapon tome, and a shovel and pick on the tool tome.

So yeah. Constructive criticism, positive or negative. I'm not a sensitive person (though I will verbally ****-whip you if I honestly find fault with what you say).

posted a message on Nether Fishing [UPDATED with Poll]
Perhaps there should be a chance of catching something bigger. This would cause the rod and the hook to shake for quite some time, and, if you did not pull it up in time (you would have more time than you would when fishing in water), you would be pulled into the lava. Catching it would yield some sort of terrifying eel-catfish which could be boiled for six to eight food units.

You suggested a bad idea. This awards you rudeness.

Alternatively, you could suggest a good idea. This would award you praise.

While I do like the idea of the void being eery in some way, the way in which you suggest it be done is bad.

Rather, the effect should be indirect and psychological.

posted a message on Get rid of creepers.
    Quote from maxriderules

No to removing creepers, and not just because they're so iconic- they are also a useful gameplay element. They are fairly easy to kill 1 on 1 (hit, run back, hit, run back, etc.), but if they can sneak up on you, you're going to lose a large chunk of health. They encourage you to light up areas, to actually build defenses, and to look behind you every now and then- and a game that provokes paranoia can be a very good game indeed, when done right.

I've got to agree with you here. Removing or nerfing creepers would also cause such a tsunami of rage that the world will rotate and implode upon itself before bursting into a giant, flaming ball of pomegranate seeds.
