Start -> Settings (Looks like a cogwheel) -> Search for "Allow an app through Windows Firewall" -> Look through the list until you find Minecraft, make sure it is checked.
I love how you've explained everything in detail, but not too much detail to bore you when reading.
I see you have the "Configure Plugins" to-do status still unmarked as finished, do you need any help with doing so?
I can offer free-assistance for that, and also give you some goodies if you want. (Cannot list here for MF's TOC)
If you'd like any assistance, feel free to message me on the forums for my personal contact information, or pass me yours.
I wish you the best of luck.
I appreciate it! Configure Plugins at the moment refers to changing settings and getting everything ready to go live (setting up ranks, for example). At the moment I don't, however if I ever need any development assistance you will be the first to know! Thanks
You always run the risk of corruption. Make backups, then enjoy pre released content then.
Correct. Because the Snapshots are specifically for users to test upcoming releases, it is still in the debugging stages - this means that, as macadamia said, there is always a risk of corruption. However, it is rare that a corruption happens.
Now to answer your question, it is a matter of opinion. I like to play single player in the Latest Release until the majority of the next release is out and known about, and then I'll switch to a snapshot and make a new world and explore the new goodies before it is official. Multiplayer is, of course, not available in snapshot.

I didn't say he had a BAD PC... I just said what I know from the people who told me that 512px resource packs are almost impossible with the specs I have as well...
If so, since you are saying that we have pretty much enough for 512px resource packs, can you direct us on what we need to do? Because every time I try a 512px resource pack my Minecraft gets around 20 fps and the fps fluctuates as well.
P.S. My specs are:
Intel i7-6700
EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING ACX 3.0
G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB DDR4
Edits: Sorry for some reason, the quote isn't coming up lol
Like I said before, it may be that you may have too much in the background. But if you both are having the same issues with almost the same specs (your CPUs are almost the same, and your GFX is just a little better than his), then it could be that you need to bridge two graphics cards to run the game smoothly with a 512 texture pack. Contrary to popular belief, Minecraft is a rather heavy game! Haha
As stated above, Optifine does drastically improve your FPS because it changes how chunks are loaded and opened, and when all settings are turned down it just makes everything much smoother (besides, it has better grass which literally changed my Minecraft experience xD).
The resolution of your texture pack is a big problem, so try finding something 256 or smaller. You have to think about it this way: basically, the number on the resolution is the number of "pixels" (I use this lightly, because the blocks are a lot larger than a pixel) that are on a side of the block; the larger the number, the more pixels need to be rendered on each block, which takes a heavy toll.
I just looked up your specs, and I'm not sure why you're having issues at all. Maybe there are too many background processes running when you play? I don't think the issue is with your PC itself, I think there is more going on.
Overclocking is a common practice. I've had CPUs last longer AFTER overclocking/coming pre-overclocked rather than leaving them alone. Your argument doesn't help at all.
I asked the same question when I created my Minecraft Forum account. I probably have a more powerful PC than you do and everyone told me that it's still not enough to run a 512px resource pack properly and you need much more than a beast PC to do so. Although, recently, I did watch a Youtuber running Minecraft with a 512px AND shaders with a bearable fps. So yeah... it's probably almost impossible to run a 512px resource pack at something like 60 fps.
However tbh, 512px resource packs are overrated anyway. I prefer to keep Minecraft blocky... but that's just my preference.
He has basically the latest CPU, overkill on RAM, and a decent GFX card, his specs are fine. Its not impossible, I've seen it with less.
There is no good reason. The only excuse I can think of is the amount of block IDs it would add, but it would hardly be a problem if slabs and stairs were turned into tile entities.
Another excuse is that prismarine is intended as an underwater block, and due to the current water rendering system, slabs and stairs for prismarine would look weird underwater.
Not to mention not needing stairs when you can just.. you know.. swim up. xD
I need a server host quickly, and I was looking at ShockByte. Their prices are very very low, but a lot of reviews are really good. Is ShockByte really what they say it is? Here is a quote about their hardware: "Shockbyte is making lag a thing of the past by using the latest Intel® Xeon™ CPU's, SSD's and high-grade DDR4 ECC Memory." Is that good hardware? I'm a noob at specs. For $40 I can get 16gb of ram, whereas at MCProHosting, my previous host, I got 6gb of ram for $60. This seems too low and very suspicious, but reviews everywhere are good. If you have had them as a host, please tell me your opinion.
I'm not familiar with ShockByte, however I do know a bit about the hardware.
The Intel Xeon CPUs latest is the E7 family, which brings about 3.2GHz of power each (depending on the model). DDR4 is premium RAM, the high-end RAM on the market (your computer probably has DDR3). SSDs are a flash-based hard-drive, rather than HDDs which have a disk, meaning the SSDs can read files faster, relating to quicker load times.
As for the prices, I can't be sure, however the hardware itself is top notch (assuming its true).

Welcome to the Official Legends of Daedalas posting! The purpose of this forum is a general server posting to discuss the progress of the server; the intention of the post is not recruitment or advertising. The server isn't live yet! I encourage everyone to critique the idea, and give me any prospective tips and "tricks". Anyone can comment! If you've administrated multiple servers, or have only been a player, I would implore everyone to comment your opinions! But lets please keep them constructive - comments such as "bad idea" without any implications as to what is bad or how it can be changed is pointless and, frankly, just rude.
Thank you for taking the time to scroll through, and welcome to Daedalas!
Latest changes:
29 Sept. 2016 - Update: Changed Staff numbers.
28 Sept. 2016 - Update: Added info about ranks, forums, and Beta Testing link. Tidy up post.
24 Sept. 2016 - Original posting. A little short, but I just wanted to get it posted so I could continue working.
The Legends of Daedalas, or Daedalas for short, will be a "semi-vanilla" survival Minecraft server starting on Minecraft version 1.10.2. The world, Daedalas, is largely unexplored and is ripe with monsters, treasure, and adventure! The Official server building designs will have a medieval feel, however players are free to build however and whatever they like. The building height will be raised to allow for more grand creations - and longer elytra flights!
Goals
The short-term goals of the server will be to, of course, become live relatively soon; after going live, I would like to see the server grow to 20-25 players active within 3 months.
To Do
The following list is not in any order. Strikethrough items are completed!
A list of plugins to be used will be made available later. Note: No large, game-changing plugins will be used. This is a semi-vanilla survival server, and every plugin will have the intention of enhancing the vanilla gameplay.
When the server becomes live, I plan to use Bisect Hosting's premium dedicated server hosting. The reason for this is that their pricing is comparatively cheaper than other services, and they give you the luxury of changing the maximum player limit for any server. Every package uses Multicraft, every premium package uses an SSD (Yay, faster file grabs!), and you are essentially only paying for the amount of RAM needed for the server.
Either just before or just a while after the server becomes live, the website & forums will be on a free web hosting & simple domain redirect (Something like dot.tk) until I can get a feel of how active the server will become. When the time comes, I will likely use NameCheap. As far as the forums go, I will probably start out using phpBB and would love to migrate to either vBulliten or Xenforo (I'm personally a fan of vBulliten).
The forums have been created! I did decide to start with phpBB as it is not only free, but it is also easy to manipulate into what you want. An preview of the forum is in the following spoiler. Tell me what you think!
Because this is a work-in-progress and nothing is concrete as of yet, I am not recruiting staff to the server. However, if I just so happen to get a message that just blows me away with experience, then maybe we can make something happen *wink*. The following lists exclude myself.
Note: LoD has started accepting applications for Beta Testers, Builders, and Staff! CLICK HERE to go to the appropriate forum posting to find out more.
Start-up Staff: 1 Admin, 1 Moderator, at least 1 Player helper
10-15 Active Players: 1 Admin, 2 Moderators, at least 3 Player helpers
15-25 Active Players: 2 Admin, 3 Moderators, at least 4 Player helpers
Mojang's EULA will be followed on this server. In fact, I don't intend on making a profit off this server; if players wish to donate, the proceeds will go to maintaining the server & upgrading its features (paid plugins, forum upgrades, etc.). I plan to make a forum post (when the forum goes live) detailing how much it costs to run the server.
Snow biomes are nice aesthetically speaking. I would be more inclined to explore them if they had villages - I've never been in a snow biome with a village.

Right. Minecraft seems to be blocked in your firewall somehow.

Log in to what? Minecraft, a server? You need more specifics.

I love how the premise of this topic was that they were searching for a server that they plan on breaking the rules in.
