This. mod. is. the. greatest. EVER!!!

Man I love this mod. I have one problem though. I switch my mouse buttons. Left key is place block, eat, drink potion. Right mouse key is attack, break blocks, etc.

The problem I found out unfortunately when I fell in lava and tried to use Potion Aid for the first time. It didn't work and I died (sad face). I found out later it's because of my keybind switching. When I use Potion Aid, it switches to the potion, and then I whack the potion bottle against the wall a few times, and it puts it away. LOL.

Any way to fix this within the mod? I looked in the config file and there's nowhere to tell the mod that left mouse key is use, and right mouse key is attack.

posted a message on Problems identifying server lag. Looking for advice.
Well it's server due to most if not all of those present on the server at the time experiencing identical lag issues. For example using a hopper clock in a certain place once created a gigantic area of intense lag, probably a 50 chunk radius. You went down to probably -10fps (literally, trying to walk got you a fraction of a step every 5 to 6 seconds).

We found out the clock was what was causing it, but that's not the real issue...because you should be able to make a simple hopper clock without it decimating a giant swath of land. I'm not sure about the control panel but I'll ask. We have submitted bug reports and talked to our server hosts but they don't see anything wrong with our connection and we definitely have ample memory. Until 1.8 we have a 3000x3000 world border, and there's never more than 10 people online.

All this info and endless studying and thinking on the issue have led me to believe it's the whole spawn issue. I just need to know the best way to fix it.

span>I think the lag issue is easily solved, you don't need help with it. ^.^

No, I really do!! Can you tell me how it's so easily solved, please???

I'm familiar with Minecraft and it's physics as a whole, but I'm new to managing servers and troubleshooting them.

posted a message on Problems identifying server lag. Looking for advice.
Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to read this. I hope the information I give is enough to go by. First of all...

I am a mod on a bukkit server, not the admin so unfortunately I don't have access to server files though I could get certain things answered if I inquired.

We are using a server host, I forget exactly who, but we have a pretty ok plan. I believe it's somewhere around the 4g of RAM area. It's a smaller semi-vanilla server, with no mods and only plugins like GriefPrevention, Dynmap, WorldEdit, and a couple other standard bukkit plugins to use commands and whatnot. Once again if needed I believe I can get a list but I do not think our issues are stemming from plugins.

We are a low pop server, never more than 10 ppl on at a time, usually 3 to 6.

    On to the lag.

We've noticed a lot of lag recently and have attributed it to farms being in operation, or redstone machines. I created some horrible lag one time with a hopper clock attached to a bunch of dispensers. But it was when I created a (very very simple) AFK cobblestone machine, that we started wondering just what the hell was going on. The machine should cause no lag. A source block of lava, a source block of water opposite, run into each other, create cobblestone, which drops into a hopper then into a chest after it's broken/mined. I just hold down the mouse button and it continuously mines, about one block every couple seconds. I explained that to you in such boring detail so you could see how ridiculously simple it is, yet when we tested it, it created quite a bit of lag in weird places. Like, several chunks away there was block lag and lag and other types of delay (i.e. jumped on a cactus, yet it was 3 or 4 seconds until the damage was inflicted).

Now, I know that this simple cobblestone harvester is not the SOURCE of the lag. That would be insane. But it is a SYMPTOM of the lag we're experiencing. Because of the lag, actions or operations that typically have no impact whatsoever on anything around them seem to be drawing on server resources way too much.

    Here is my question.

We've looked around a lot and tried a lot of stuff and after eliminating a lot of common causes for lag, I've started to think that Spawn is the problem. Our Spawn for our world is very simple, just a little gazebo, no big castle, no pistons beacons shiny lights dancing monkeys, nothing.

But the head Admin of the server (a first-timer when it comes to running servers), when he started the world, he kept the default Spawnpoint that the world seed chose for him, and that's where all the players come online for the first time (and when they die without a home.) I've noticed on most servers, the Admins move the player spawnpoint far away from the default world spawn, they don't give any indication to where default world spawn is due to the nature that those chunks stay loaded all the time and this can be exploited by players who may want to build automated farms and stuff in them.

But on this server, no new player spawnpoint was chosen, he just went with the default spawn. So everyone built their houses in and around it, dug tunnels, made small builds, there is a tiny iron farm, the main nether portal, etc. And since it's default spawn, according to the wiki a 16x16 area is constantly loaded, all those tunnels and plants and mobs and lighting and etc etc etc. Most of the player activity takes place in and around world spawn, and for instance when I created lag with my AFK cobble harvester (which is approximately 100 or 150 blocks away from right where you spawn into the world, a certain region inside spawn is where the lag was localized. You crossed an invisible border and all of the sudden your FPS dropped and everything became delayed.

    So........

    • Is my theory correct? Should the Admin have moved the player spawnpoint to somewhere far away from default world spawn, so that there wasn't a large amount of activity inside default world spawn?
    • What is the generally accepted thing to do with Spawn when creating a new SMP world? Is it a definite no-no to just use the default spawn the world seed originates?
    • If this is the source of the lag, what can we do about it? Can we make players spawn someplace else and just destroy everything in the default world spawn, fill all the tunnels and spaces up so there is nothing that uses server resources in that area? No mobs, no lighting updates or block updates, no lava, no water, etc etc?
    • Or can we set default world spawn to somewhere else far far away....so that the 16x16 chunk that always remains loaded is someplace that is deserted and empty?

I'm sorry I wrote so much but I hope I gave as clear a picture as possible to what our problem is. We have to address this lag issue and an issue with world spawn is the only thing I can think of to be wrong. Any solutions, tips, tricks, fixes, advice, ANYTHING would be appreciated. If you actually got this far reading this, then that is appreciated lol.

Let me know if I can provide any information to better understand the underlying problem. Or if you want to come on the server and check it out I can whitelist you! I'm desperate to fix this so I have to try anything and everything. Thanks very much for your time.

I'm using the newest dev build with forge and voxel maps and everything is working good. Thanks to Kobata and everyone for the solid advice and hard work keeping this mod updated.

I have one small issue that is vexing me. Chest sorting works fine, but 60% of the time when I hit R to sort my inventory, it sorts twice real quick, but in a completely random way, and it spits out an item...usually I end up dropping an enchanted sword or pickaxe.

I've tried spamming alt and ctrl and shift and different combinations of spamming, and updating my sorting rules file. But nothing is consistent. Any advice?

Having a bug with the Rolling Machine in Railcraft. As you can see, the recipe is ready to go but I can't "harvest" it. Clicking does nothing and I've messed around with everything for two hours.

Anyone have this issue? Yes I have Forge and the game is running just fine.

Is there REALLY not a Forge version of this mod? This is a fantastic mod, but I'm unwilling to give up the 15 other mods I use that are Forge-specific.

Since I'm afraid of the instability having Forge AND Modloader presents, I'm very sad to say I can't use this mod. A Forge version wold be amazing, though.. =D This is quite an amazing set of usefulness.

I have a depressing confliction. When I use this mod with Millenaire, there's a serious bug where the inventory icons do not appear, or occasionally a diamond sword will appear as half of a compass.

BWG is an amazing mod and I MUST have it.

If there isn't some sort of fix for this, can someone suggest an alternative combination? Has to be for Forge, I want something that randomly places buildings and such for exploration.

    Thanks.
