I like how there was no option for just a simple "no". As I do not hate notch. Hes doing just fine with the millions he made on the sale of the game. So don't worry about him.
I have some random knowledge from patch notes, experiments, and youtube videos. But I have a lot of holes in my knowledge as I'm trying to construct some iron farms, and I'm getting inconsistent results.
Here is a list of what I know, if I have only one source it remains unconfirmed:
1. IG spawns in a 16 block radius from the villager that starts the gossip (from IG wiki page)
2. IG requires 5 votes during gossip for a spawn (from patch notes and confirmed from experiments)
3. IG spawns on a solid block only, within transparent or air blocks.(from IG wiki page)
4. For a villager to gossip they need to complete a work day cycle, sleeping in a bed, access to a owned profession block, and access to village center (Based mostly off experiments)
5. Bell no longer is required to determine location of gossip. (from youtube video, and confirmed from experiments)
6. Village center is determined by center point of all villagers current location at the a specified time in day (guess based on experiments)
7. Number of golems that can exist within a village is at least 1 golem per 5 population. (I had villages that had 3 golems walking around with pop of 12, I've seen more in naturally generated villages like more golems than villagers. bug?)
8. IG seems to spawn either in the morning 0, noon 12000, and night 24000 just before they goto bed (from experiments, but I'm largely unsure about this)
[edit]
9. IG will not spawn on solid block below y=5. Just fixed one of my farms by raising it up 1 block. Superflat worlds land is y=4. (experiment farm with solid blocks at y=4, sat for 5 minecraft days with no IG)
Let me know if something is not correct or if you can confirm something.
Don't confuse the more recent bug of no hostile mobs spawning with reduced mob spawning. The latter is an old bug thats been around since 2012 related to the render distance. If you see few mobs, turn up your render distance, mobs will spawn a lot more frequently.
I'll add that when the devs change the mechanics of the game its painful at first but it helps keep you on your toes and making it interesting. Like the upcoming villager mechanics for 1.14. I've pretty much mastered the village thing and created my own underground Iron Farm design. But changing the way what makes a house broke the farms, but the more I learn about the new mechanics the more it makes sense. Also the villager leveling makes more sense and is more useful. The breeding and Iron golem spawning is now voted on in the town center. Its soooo cool, I can't wait for 1.14. In the mean time Im playing the snapshots. I rarely have EVER played a game where new development actually improved the game play. Usually things get dumbed down.
Oh yeah also if you want a challenge the pillagers are brutal, try defending the villages and help out with defense, fun stuff. This will be the most interesting update since the Redstone update IMO.
Hey guys, I partially agree with most on this. However I'm really enjoying the pillager update, its given new life to this game since its now a challenge. Im a bit different than most people who play this, Im currently playing the latest snapshot 19w12b in hardcore mode. I found a nice spot to build a castle in between three close by villages in plains biome. And let me tell you, I keep getting patrols every 2 seconds. I try to avoid killing the leaders. However I do agree there needs to be some better way to counter the endless spawning of Illager patrols and raids. Not to mention the crazy infinite spawning on their bases.
Balance suggestions:
1. Give us a ranged golem, the snow golem is pretty much useless. I would like to set up defensive towers around the villagers I can defend from. And a golem would be great automatic defense to deal with endless attacks. Sure make the golem very expensive in resources, but at least I can look forward to some counter measures.
2. In other modes outside of hardcore, make there be a checkbox option for pillager raids. People who play on easy would rarely enjoy this feature. In hardcore there should be no option for unchecking this. You want hardcore, you have to play at the games maximum hardness.
Why do they consistently stick with 16 pixel wide textures? Nearly all graphics cards can handle far beyond that without any change in performance. As for me Ill stick to the Photorealism 256 texture pack.
Ok Im changing my vote. Going to say 1.9, mainly because of Elytra and giving the end a purpose to explore. But I of course would love to pick and choose features. Basically any content added that improves playable possibilities, redstone update is best example. And remove features that makes the game easier (most current updates like adding of ocean ruins and improved villages with more chests and wheat bails). Those things are ok when you first see them but they become eye sores and just scale up the loot found by just walking/swimming around. Im ok with ocean ruins/shipwrecks if they were more rare.
I just played the latest snapshot 19w02a. Its just getting ridiculous with villages having bails of wheat everywhere and even more chests with goodies. Im starting to think best version of minecraft was when there were no villages. The game not only has made ot so easy you dont even need to mine anymore, now you dont need to make food.. ever. Whats the point of playing if everything is done for you?
Since villages have always existsed in minecraft, ill go with the versions that started the presets caves of chaos and water world, v1.7. Those give the game an actual challenege and villages do not exist there, well they kinda exist in caves of chaos they are just not easy to get to.

I play hardcore only, so out of habit I play very cautious. If you're really cautious you can survive indefinitely. Sometimes I get impatient and misstep in the nether. I find its very easy to die there as sometimes a step can be a hole going to the lava ocean. Or my favorite is shooting an arrow at a moving blaze and a pigman steps in front of you as you shoot. Then you hear like a 100 pigmen make their crying noise and run towards you as you try to remember which direction your nether base is. Fun stuff.
Yes I have also seen this in a recent 1.10 map. I found the lava room but not a single chest or nether wart. I explored and dug all around the fortress as I was pretty sure there was a passage blocked somewhere. After hours of exploring and double exploring it was apparently to me I explored the entire fortress. So yes it is possible.
I have always been fascinated by the idea of a public hardcore server, but a major flaw in your competion idea is that it is much easier to kill your competitors than the ender dragon. Maybe they start in different places far away, and it is more of a race?
Also maybe instead of vanilla hardcore, maybe placing a respawn delay of a week or something like that would be better, since it would be so easy for noobs to get killed by the veteran players.
Well my experience with hardcore servers is that they are very empty, and if you make a base at lets say 10k blocks out, you are pretty safe. Odds of someone staying alive to find you is slim. So PvP seems to be mostly non existent unless you invite someone to your location.
Hi I like the idea of coming up with challenges. But I think the impossible challenges seem a bit like busy work, although they are a challenge. I suggest for impossible a few possibilities.
1) Explore an entire fully zoomed out map in Caves of Chaos preset in Hardcore mode. Also build a beacon pyramid out of diamonds.
2) Build a glass fortress around a ocean monumnet in Water World Preset in hardcore mode. (most people won't make it past the first 12 seconds) after you do survive, sand is hard to find and sugarcane to build paper and books for enchanting is almost impossible to find. Wood hard to find. Extremely hard almost impossible, but is possible.
Sometimes mojang add stuff that sounded funny or cool at the 10am development meeting, once implimented they make a good one time event be a long term annoyance. As an example the skeletal trap, was cool the first time I saw it now its annoying. I think more cleaver ideas are things that scale and are dynamic, like an alogorithim that makes zombies more agressive over time as your game progresses. Mobs that spawn random characterists, and randomly generated graphics.

Confirmed, they restock twice in a minecraft day. But thats depending if they make it to their profession table within those specified game ticks.

We all get bored then we come back. Minecraft is a special game that really doesn't have anything like it out there.. yet.
