    Quote from Oddzball

So, everyone kept saying animals didnt respawn in 1.8, but thats not really true. They still respawn, just slowly. Just the other day I had a sheep spawn in my new 1.8 map, inside of a big brick walled off area. I think they are just limited on how many can exist in any given area.

I've also had a pair of chickens and a pig spawn inside my structures after creating a new 1.8 map when it was official. Prior to that, several in game days of time had passed, I had collected all the wild game for hundreds of meters and put them into my dungeon/farm.

I had a wall and fence surrounding the area the new creatures appeared in. As well as a noted count of how many animals were in the dungeon (none had escaped). They were definitely newly spawned.

You might want to watch this topic http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/631622-181-endermen-dont-pick-up-blocks-mod/ The enderman don't pick up blocks...Supposedly it's still bugged but it's a good start for people who think enderman grieving is annoying or worse.

It shouldn't be necessary to mod them into a state of not being terribly annoying. They aren't a challenge, they're a nuisance.

The Endermen's griefing ability, and making all animals endangered species.

I suspect the transformation of animals into a limited resource without providing them with any way of renewal was either a terrible oversight, or a devious way of making people learn to use fish, chickens and flora. Probably the first one, terrible oversight.

Summing up: enderman doesn't add much. If you have just a small hut, then you don't care if endermen move blocks around. It's mildly amusing, but it's not much. And if you do have structures, then it becomes a major pain. In other words, when enderman is positive, it's a very small touch of positive addition, but when it's negative, it's a world of frustration.

An accurate summation. It's not a well balanced monster. The amount of trouble (not danger, but frustration and annoyance) it causes in not worth having it in the environment.

The closest thing we can compare the endermen to are creepers, which on a fundamental level cause the same kinds of problems. The problem with endermen is that we can't do anything to stop them from "exploding," they do it all the time. If creepers exploded regardless of proximity (just did it randomly every so often) they would be unbearable, which is nearly what endermen are capable of with time.

Wait, what kind of logic is that? You paid money for minecraft... so he must spend that money on minecraft? Thats now how it works. you sell a game, you make the money, you pay the developers so they can live, and then you use the money to make new games. This isn't a kickstarter project. He never said "Give me money to make minecraft", he sold you minecraft.

Your assumption that I paid for what I was recieving at that time and nothing else is entirely incorrect (even though for other games and other companies it is often the case). In the case of Minecraft, I paid in advance, for a game that is to be completed, because I liked what the beta had to promise for the future. As an advance purchaser of the game, in thanks for helping to support the creator during this time of development, I paid less for the game than what is was planned to be retailed for once completed.

So yes, I do expect the money I paid to be used for the development of Minecraft as a complete and rounded game, that is precisely what I paid for.

Why do people act like they have halted all development? ... It would be a shame to spend all the money and effort to organize this event, then exlcude any other activities because they are not directly related to minecraft. ...

I didn't, nor do I think the OP, ever claimed that all development was halted or that all resources were diverted elsewhere, that is a gross and purposeful misinterpretation. We are dissatisfied with the proportion of resources allocated. Resources doesn't just mean dollars either.

I think enderman's ability to move around blocks should be cancelled. If they move blocks around in the wild, it makes no difference and you'd hardly notice; and when they remove blocks from your constructions, it's not particularly fun, and rebuilding is a major pain in the potato, especially if you have a device made to spawn mobs and kill them afterwards.
    ...
If you too wish enderman couldn't remove your blocks, say so in this thread.

I think the Endermens' ability to move blocks is interesting, however, I think it is an extremely bad idea to implement. It is guaranteed to do nothing but annoy the **** out of the players.

Find some new way to make them special and interesting. If the goal was to have them replicate player ability in some way, let them open doors and climb ladder or w/e. Unfortunately the placement and displacement of blocks is sure to do nothing but frustrate players in a way that is not fun.

    Quote from Smashingzwan

It is *CLEARLY* obvious that the eFame and millions of dollars Minecraft has made for Mojang has gotten to Notchs head, and by extension, the companies.

    ...

So to clarify: Even though Minecraft development seems slow and unsatisfying these days, Notch is of the opinion that he has no real obligation to help speed the progress along. Instead he chooses to enter weekend long game contests and work on his other (non-minecraft) game projects.

To any person with a conscious, that mountain of wealth (earned from Minecraft sales) would be an incredible motivator to complete the project that so many millions have paid him in good faith to complete. Yes, we knowingly purchased a product that was incomplete, but that purchase also included a promise of continued development for an unnamed period of time. Unfortunately we were never given any sort of development schedule and the guys at Mojang seem to be cool with a decidedly lazy approach to pretty much everything concerning Minecraft.

    ...

I've been of a similar opinion of "Notch" for a long time. When the game suddenly made him rich and famous, I would suppose that he began to think of Minecraft as a success, and in many ways it certainly is; but perhaps unconciously, this success has also translated into "complete" in his mind. Which has let him feel more comfortable than it should about spending time, and money that was paid for Minecraft, on other new projects.

I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to spend months thinking exclusively about one thing (ie. one game/coding project), but I suspect Notch will find himself infamous rather than merely famous if he throws away all the resources and goodwill offered to him for Minecraft on other things.

As a sub note to that last idea, I percieve it as a big slap in the face how much of Minecon is likely to be dedicated to his other projects. If he wants it to be about things other than Minecraft so thoroughly, it ought to be called Notchcon or Mojangcon or w/e.

How about it grows VERY SLOWLY. As in, one vine in a random direction, every 10 minutes?

It only grows faster when its either raining, or close to water. Good idea?

There just needs to be a difference between the root of the vine and the foliage, similar to tree growth (trunk + leaves = tree, leaves only grow up to x meters away from the trunk). You could then have the vine planted, and know that it would not support more than X radius of foliage (or Y square meters of foliage).

posted a message on 3 Strongholds per map??
    Quote from Goldom_pants

I don't think the map "knows" where the 3 are beforehand, so you don't have to explore the whole world to "find" them. Instead it's more like

    1. Spawn chunk
    2. Check: are there 3 strongholds in the world?
If no: 0.01% to make one.
If yes: 0% to make one.

I don't know this for sure, but it makes more sense.

I would also assume this is how it works. It's going to generate them as it does new chunks, and when it reaches the cap of three it stops making new ones.

Eighth is pie. More specifically meat pie. This pie would give you 6 hearts, as it requires quite a bit of wheat. It is crafted by putting a piece of cooked meat in the center of the crafting table, and surround it with wheat on both sides, its top, and its topmost diagonal corners. Below it is a bowl to act as the pie tin. This food would be great at healing, but has a lot of ingredients that are required. The bowl is returned to you.

    ...

I think you could also add another use for apples, and have apple pie. You might be able to make the recipe 3 wheat and 3 apple/pork, to balance the realistic ratios with the visual building process.
