... I hope that it was not only deliberate but that it stays.
Me too. It has a nice creepy connotation, like the sort of thing mean old witch would need to make some kind of potion. Which makes me think ... we need some kind of newts and bats as well.
So, I'm sure I'm not the first one to notice this but I didn't see any threads, is it just me or does Nether Wart sounds completely inappropriate? lol I like the name, it made me laugh, and I think it's a good name for something from the nether, but Notch has stated he wants to be kid friendly and I'm not sure this qualifies...
I see what you're getting at, but sexually transmitted diseases aren't going to be the first thing to come to kids minds. The Nether is a place, and wart is used in the names of lots of flora irl.
Many of those threads could still be useful in the 1.9 discussion, and would be better moved to the 1.9 thread instead of just being locked.
1.8 is the released version, I'd expect to find content related to the released version in the regular discussion forums. 1.9 is a special case in that it is not finished or released as such, a single forum dedicated to it makes sense.
I've been trying to get to a mushroom biome, but no luck. If someone posted a seed for it, everyone could check one out without having to hunt one down. I've no time to find a seed right now, so help would be appreciated!
There's a nice big one isolated as an island on the seed "4" right across the water from the swamp you'll spawn in.
We just got these awesome new swamp biomes, filled with dark water lilly pads, vines, but no crocodiles! They would suit perfectly since there are no hostile water mobs.
Anyone else think he should add this?
I think adding croc spawning to swamps would be awesome. But this belongs in the suggestions forum.
My old island seed, sadly, no longer starts you off on an island. I've haven't found any lost-in-the-ocean ones since I've started. Anyone have any good ones?
Not as island in the sense that most people use, but a much more useful location with most of the same isolated qualities.
The spawn (where the cursor/indicator are at on the map) is a pine forest biome surrounded by ocean. The pair of large nearby islands are also pine forest biome if I remember correctly. The tiny island south of the central island is a more traditional stranded isle.
I prefer this kind of island as it will provide a fair amount of starter timber, and most importantly, allows wild animals to spawn so they can be gathered for your farm/ranch.
It opens up the possibilities for characters, PC and NPC, to have different models. Seems like a good idea to me. Maybe in the future we'll be able to pick a model as well as a skin for our character.
As for how this placeholder looks - seems fine to me. Bald guy in a robe (of varying colors, for rank maybe) with his arms crossed - seems suitably monkish.
Is this not coming back in 1.9? Or at the very least, are animals being allowed to spawn normally again? Without one or the other, several major items have become limited, nonrenewable resources, and that is quite detrimental to the game.
I was expecting breeding for 1.9 as well, but feedback so far implies it has been delayed again - while the spawning is still nerfed. That's a bad combo for most people, but I suppose it will pound the idea into peoples heads to treat animals as a more important resource than they once were.
Realism? In Minecraft? In a game where I can punch down trees, leave cubic meters of solid stone floating in mid-air, and craft suits of armour from pure diamond with nothing but a workbench and my bare hands I don't think any discussion about realism in really relevant.
Well said. lol
I however, do not care for the hunger bar. I think it would be much more simple if health depleted very slowly to encourage the use of food (which is presumably what the hunger system was implemented for).
Anyone else having any trouble getting livestock to spawn?
They won't spawn on that island, it's ocean biome. There are a couple of larger islands nearby that you can collect livestock from, or just some eggs if you don't want to kill yourself doing it.

Yes, that's correct. It's not done yet. Which was my point, that it is not released as a finished version.

Check seed "10"
There is snow and ice all around (0,0) at low elevation.

I've seen bare stone lots of times before. It's been around for a long time.

^ The exe is what I would suspect as well.
