Fairly easy to craft, going on slime hunts would be a breeze. Encircling it in slime would cause the Redstone powder to stick to itself and walls, allowing it to be attached to ceilings, like so:
Also, the slime glows when it activates. The farther downstream, the darker the slime gets.

My suggestion is a better sleeping mechanics.
Whenever you go to sleep, and wake up the next morning, everything is completely the same, as if the time stopped.
Now my suggestion is: once you're sleeping, everything keeps going. Things get cooked, plantations grow up...
+The thing is everything progresses (plantations, furnace smelting, etc.), but as half as fast as if you stayed up all night.
-Hostile mobs spawn but with lower rate (65% less than the normal rate)
-If you sleep without protection between your bed and hostile mobs, you could get woken up by some. Also if you are on hard mode and you have a wooden door, zombies could wake you up at your house (if nothing is between the entrance they went trough and your bed)

Finally, because I'm such a sci-fi fanboy, here's a 1:1 scale reproduction of Voyager, from...well, the show of the same name, made by euml! It seems he hasn't updated this build in awhile, but it is still a remarkable model. -
