Hm, three full days of making a mini-CTM. That would be about three wools and possibly a metal block for bonus or something.
...how do you do that in three days? I only started making CTMs and I don't even have a white wool yet...
You've got to sacrifice quality in the name of actually finishing the map. Doesn't matter if you're in hour 71 with one beautiful and well-balanced area down, you've still got the three wools to aim for. :P

Community Question: What CTM map has the greatest reveal?
For me it is probably first loading in the huge nether castle thing of VF1 or maybe seeing the huge drop off in the first area of VFII
I've said this before and I'll say it again.

    UT3. Rage-Piglet Citadel.

Also, why is it 71 hours and 59 minutes? Shouldn't it be starting at 12:00 AM on Friday?
I just did that so it's perfectly clear what day everyone is starting on, and because one minute really isn't going to make a difference. :P

Hmm... since Drago doesn't seem to be doing it, I guess I'll make the poll. Here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LQ6L5ZL I didn't know if we wanted to use multiple-choice or single-choice, so I made that part of the poll. Pick whichever option you want for Q1, and we'll use the results to Q2 or Q3 depending on which option gets more votes in Q1.

By the way: As Drago had planned, I'll be releasing the results at 8pm EST on Wednesday. Then, the planning period will begin. The actual construction period begins at 12:01AM in your local timezone on Friday, and ends 11:59PM in your local timezone on Sunday.

Dude, no, I... ugh. :/ I was going to set this up. You really didn't need to, and shouldn't have, done this. I mean thanks for doing it because you thought it would help, but I can handle things in the future. I just had two long work shifts in a row with not a lot of time between, and I would have set the poll up when I got back today.

I guess we'll treat this as the official poll. I'll update the OP with the winning date and direct people to the link.

No my gawd. The guardian's laser DOESN'T have a max range. You can just alter the follow distance attribute and it can zap you from HUNDREDS of blocks away. I assume the only limit to its range is however far it actually renders the mob. Customizable attack damage coming from an enemy a mile away shooting a mega-laser... or from on top of a ghast or ender dragon... this mob is getting scary.
    Ooh.

    Ooooohh.

    OOOOOOOOHHHHHHH!

I foresee the Guardian spending the rest of its days as a utility mob. :D

    Community question:
What do you think is the most preferable method to make brewing be unaccesible?

    1. Make there be no cobblestone to craft brewing stands.
    2. Make there be no nether wart.
    3. Make there be no glass bottles or the materials needed to craft them.
    4. Make there be no water bottles (basically a command block that removes them from your inventory).
2 is the easiest and most wide-spread method, but really do anything except 4. Using command blocks to remove items from a player's inventory, while it works in very specific instances, is almost always a bad idea and breaks immersion.

Ah, I've been trying it in 1.8 but, no results. I may be doing it wrong though. Never used it before.
It's easy enough to screw up the formula: first time I tried it I ended up with stacks of diamond armor and lava blocks in all my chests. XD

Also, I just realized that because of the new item and block format for 1.8, it most likely won't work at all. I'm not sure if items are referred to ingame as "Minecraft:item" like the blocks are, but that's a possible explanation for it. I really don't know of other alternative programs. :(

Speaking of random loots, is there an updated version to Kamyu's program, or a filter or, are we just not doing random loots anymore?
As far as I know, Kamyu's was the only tool that really did random loot, and he's essentially fallen off the face of the planet, so yeah. :/ It still works, from what I understand.

i have finally learned how to shape terrain in minecraft (worldpainter), and i am working on a CTM map. it it an open-world style map, so i am planning on having several chests across the map with random loot. the problem is i don't know how to randomize loot without flying around the map and placing stuff in the chests. any suggestions for some tools i could use?

    thanks!
Random loot is generally frowned upon nowadays, as it doesn't allow for progression and relies solely on a set formula that has the potential to backfire catastrophically. My advice would be to go the extra mile and hand-place all the loot, giving the player what they need when you think they will need it, and making them work for what they get. Furthermore, it would be wise not to only use Worldpainter for your map. It's a powerful tool to be sure, but the terrain it creates only works so well in a CTM setting. Try learning how to use MCedit and Worldedit, and you'll be on a good track. :)

The Strawberry Jam #04 is officially in planning! Head over to the thread to vote on dates and discuss the new potential theme gimmick we've come up with. :)

I have heard the cries and decided the time is now!

Strawberry Jam #04 is a go!

    So, here's a little overview:
    - The 72-hour format will be returning.
    - The theme will be announced and the planning period will begin at 8PM EST on the Wednesday preceding the chosen dates.
    - From the planning period onward, your regional timezone will determine the start and end times of your working period. For example, 12:01AM EST would be my starting point on Friday morning, whilst someone in the UK would begin at 12:01AM GMT.
    - The buildilng portion of the Jam will last from 12:01AM on Friday to 11:59PM on Sunday.

You might have also noticed that I've put two polls up, one to help us determine what dates will work for the people attending, and other to determine the details of the theme. Ignore that second one for now, I'll explain it in a minute. ;) Please vote about the dates ASAP, and remember that you can vote for more than one option!

Now, the important bit: the theme. A tradition in the Strawberry Jam has been to decide the theme based on community discussion and nomination, and we won't be breaking that mold this time. :) However, we felt like possibly adding a twist, but we won't add it for sure unless you all are okay with it.

On one hand, we could do the regular theme-voting formula, where people in the thread pitch ideas, I choose a few and we have multiple stages of voting until the winner is decided and announced. On the other hand, Fangride has suggested that we have you vote on vowels instead, and the winning vowel must be the first letter of a theme that you, the mapmaker, come up with for your map. We will allow overlapping themes, so don't worry if you share a theme with someone else. Voting and judging for this theme should center around adherence to the chosen theme, and how well the map's concept was pulled off. Fang and I both feel this concept has potential to really be fun, and should lessen the issue we had last Jam of the chosen theme being too difficult to use effectively.

The second question in the poll addresses this new theme-choosing concept, so please go and vote there with your preferred method! If you have issues or concerns about the vowel method, please post them here so we can address and discuss them.

I'm looking forward to getting this thing going! :D

Apparently Dylan's planning one but if that doesn't come around by July then I'll do one
Actually, Fang and I were talking about a possible twist for the next Jam, and then I brought Dylan in on it. Then I was stupid and didn't respond to the chat I had created, so we never went anywhere with that idea. I'd still love to do it, but it sounds like there's some clamoring for another event, so I may just put up some more themes and let people vote on them, and postpone the bigger idea to next time.
