Dec 10, 2011Drago posted a message on This Week's "Snapshot" ReleasedI like this snapshot update, and the mob eggs are a really nice addition. However, I feel that the "sheep eat grass to regain wool" is a bit overpowered. I'm not complaining, I use wool for carpeting a lot, but it seems kinda unrealistic for the sheep to regain their wool so easily. It might work better to have them eat the wheat grass to regain their wool, and only after a timer of like five minutes. Still, nice snapshot. :smile.gif:Posted in: News

Wassup dudes?
Nice to see this place is still alive and the creativity is still flowing. Any major map releases over the past six months or so? I'm not really playing Minecraft anymore but I'd love to take a look at some work, if only to recharge my creative batteries.
It's already been said before, but that video was awesome. Good job!

...I think you're being serious, I can't tell 100%, but I'll respond anyway.
I understand what you're saying, but please, realize that this is a game, a dying game for that matter. Being "filled with grief" and getting so upset you "can't even look at me anymore"... That's over-dramatic and, quite honestly, a very childish way of reacting to things.
I am not owned by anyone. The Dreadsky saga may have dominated my creative outlets for a year or so, but right now, I really could not care less about it. I've probably lost the save file for DsD to be honest. Sure, it mattered to me at a time, but it doesn't now. And I cannot be convinced by anyone that it should matter at this point in time.
You know what, that's okay! That's how life goes sometimes. It's an ebb and flow of things that are important to us. Over time, new projects, people, and situations come into our lives that ask or demand our attention. And as those new things arrive, old things will depart. Relationships end, projects are completed or abandoned, people move away or even die. A mark of maturity is learning to adjust to these changes, instead of getting caught up in the past and wishing it would return, or getting angry when you realize you can't have something back. Life moves on, and so should you.
For me personally, yeah, I'm sure there are times I wish I could've had the willpower to finish DsD, and the whole Dreadsky saga. But I also remember how once I finally gave up that project, I felt so much freedom. I didn't feel that nagging obligation to keep working on a map that had slowly descended into nightmarish mediocrity. There was no joy, no love for what I was doing, just an obnoxious voice telling me, "Hey, you told these people you'd do something, better do it!" And honestly, I am sorry that I had to abandon it in front of everyone who was looking forward to it. I let people down, and that never feels good.
But it was something I needed to do, and I do not regret it one bit. Dropping that project allowed me to focus on my college career, making new friends, and forming a solid relationship. Today, I am thriving and I love my life. That's something I would never trade away, not for all the Minecraft fame in the world.
I'm not mad at you.

Hey guys, Community Question:
When playing a CTM map nowadays, what do you look for/want to see? Unique use of new features (I snuck a peek at 1.9 and it looks nifty) or more simple, "classic" gameplay design? Huge and sprawling areas with hours of gameplay, or more compact areas? Maps so difficult that you will question your will to live, or ones that are more easygoing? Everyone has different tastes, so I'd like to hear about them.

Seems like a bit of a Catch 22 scenario: CTM mapmakers want Vechs to acknowledge and validate their existence, but aren't getting that from him, resulting in badmouthing; Vechs refuses to acknowledge CTM mapmakers because he sees the toxicity directed at him. Neither side benefits if neither side budges.
I didn't come back here to get into the whole politics side of this community, goodness knows I can't stand that. But really, from the perspective of someone who has been detached from this scene for ages, a lot of the behavior and hate directed at Vechs that comes out of this place is unproductive. There's a clear line between valid criticism and vitriol.

Funny, I feel more alive then ever before.
I'm assuming this has been fixed now? Since Fang mentioned something in a later post... If not, or if you need any more info, change of account emails, etc., lemme know, I'll be glad to help.
I apologize again about that incident, I really didn't introduce him properly, and overall that wasn't a great move on my part.

Oh and hi Skeeto.
Again, is this all set? Do I need to sift through our old PMs for that password so he can get started? If so just let me know.
If you guys are still intent on starting up a new thread, or that idea ever comes up in the future, personally I've got nothing against it. It can be fun to see a completely refreshed OP every now and again, and getting new blood in on a project like that is always good. What I would suggest is that you use the CTMCommunity account for a new thread, instead of using someone's personal account. That way, you can keep shifting control as interest from different parties both grows and shrinks. This thread was meant to be one of the solutions to the constantly-shifting Community threads of old, but the account is the key to that solution.
Anyway, nice to check back in, and good to see our ol' pal Vechs is up to more shenanigans...

I have done that, thank you for reminding me. I meant to indicate that the project was dead somewhere on the OP, but I never got around to it back when I was active around here.
Also, I just checked Mediafire, and it appears as though DsI has hit 10,000 downloads. Very nice to know that the map is still getting at least some downloads, and that the 5-digit milestone was finally reached.

At this point, that's essentially impossible. I still have the map file, but I haven't booted up Minecraft in ages. With 1.9 coming around the corner, DsD will be horrendously out of date (construction began during 1.4), not to mention unpolished and broken. I don't have the same amount of free time that I used to before college. 3 dungeons is actually an extremely large undertaking, when you consider the scope of the areas I had planned. I have no drive at all to even play another CTM map, let alone attempt to finish my map.
Sorry to shoot the idea down, but there's just no way it's happening.

I'm really glad you guys are doing this.
The podcast was always something I felt could be a very valuable resource for mapmakers if the effort was put in to revive it. I'd just really urge you guys to stick with it. Keep the episodes and new content coming!

Sorry dude.

Oh, thanks for mentioning this. I just got "_Drago" as my new username.
One day I will finally purge the world from any hint of knowledge that my name was ever anything other than Drago...

This is my 2000th post, and I've been saving it for quite some time now, waiting to do something special.(Uh apparently it isn't my 2000th? :S I swore I was at 1,999 last time I checked... Whatever.) I had thought of doing a name-list post, but considering my hiatus from the community, that seemed an odd choice. So instead, I give you a blast from the past...My recently-recorded speedrun of Skeeto's map "Rugged Horizons".
Alright, this is probably not the most relevant video to the current topic. But it's a fun little project I felt like putting together to test out my new recording situation... and also an opportunity to return to an age-old competition between myself and Karrott, the previous record-holder of the map. It's been over a year and a half since he posted his WR run of 00:14:32,69, but I finally came back and beat him.
Also, since I've posted the above video, you might be interested to know that I may be posting youtube videos more frequently. I recorded some footage during a weekly gamenight of a small gaming community I'm a part of, the GAC, and that video is also available on my channel. I realized that most people around here probably haven't heard my actual voice before, so this is your chance.
So yep,
that's my 2000th post andmonthly check-in with you all. Cheers!0

Krose, read my explanation up a bit on this page. It wasn't sneaky, just not handled very well.
Also, I didn't know you still wanted to be a part of the admin account. I actually started a new PM that included the changed password, so technically you aren't actually a member of the admin team. If you're still up for it and can be around to make changes when needed, I can add you in.

For clarification's sake, Fang actually told me about Al a while back, saying he was interested in helping get the joint account back on its feet. Fang did mention this, but it looks like people glazed over it. We got in contact over skype and messaged back an forth for a while, and he shared with me some ideas he had for improvements to the OP. I was impressed and felt he was qualified, so I got the account ready for a newcomer and gave him the new password. Something that might've gotten lost in there is that I haven't just thrown the account away, and I do still have access to it as does Fangride, and we'll be around to give advice to Al and any future holders of the account.
So yeah, sorry for the confusion about this. It seems as though you're all in agreement about needing an admin who's more active in the community. I'm not inclined to remove Al, because he really does have some good ideas, but I am open to adding a few more members. Because of my recent inactivity from this community, I don't know many of the new names and personalities. Obviously I remember my old buddies like Rock and 8-ball, but a lot of you newer folks are strangers. Is there someone or maybe multiple someones you guys feel you can trust with the admin account, or who you feel would be a good fit for the position? I'm not in a place right now where I can sift through applications, so please don't flood my PM box!
(Side note: If you all feel it's the best approach, I can take applications for the admin position at some point, but not right now. I'm being kinda naughty writing this post actually; I've got a big nasty college paper that I need to finish up soon, eek! Once I've got that out of the way, I'll have some more time to invest in getting things around here running, but for now I need to hold back.)
