Thank you. Mainly I was looking to spread taint for the sole purpose of gaining items for tainted research. Knowing that flint gives that helps greatly.

Edit: It appears flint gives lost knowledge. Did you perhaps mean coal? (regardless, I'll be testing many other items now to see what kind of research they give)

That is really odd, I spent a lot of time last night with NEI trying to figure out which items give what research. There were several mod items that gave odd research, such as forestry stuff, but that isnt useful to everyone. I think flint was the only tainted I found in vanilla other then Mycelium blocks. I got quite a few tainted research from them, perhaps one of my mods is affecting it. Or are you not running the most recent update? Sorry about the false lead. What about http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Iron_Bars I think those gave something different as well. Might have been eldritch though.

The current system reflects the rediscovering of ancient knowledge, which does not need to occur in a linear fashion.
It doesnt need to, but I think it would be better for it. Besides, it would be a tiered system, not linear. There would still be quite a bit of room for randomness. Gameplay trumps realism and it is not fun to research something that you cannot make.

I know you already have more suggestions then you need, especially about research, but I have a request if it is possible. I will try to describe it briefly.

It would be nice if there were multiple 'tiers' within each research type. Basically you cannot research some items until you have researched the prerequisite. For example, it is useless to learn how to make thaumic crucible without knowing crucible of eyes, or meteor boots without seven league boots. If you were able to implement it such that it is impossible to gain a theory for the higher tier of items until you know the lower one, this would have several benfits.

Firstly, one would no longer gain research recipes that are completely useless to them without further research, and also, you could gate some of the more powerful research, the tools and weapon for example, arbitrarily behind more mundane research. This way you could ensure that players gain the lower tiers of research first such that they have the basics of a vis factory before they get the recipes for some of the more advanced items. :)

In other research news: I was researching a ton of things in an attempt to find something that gives tainted research, and finally discovered it could be learned from
Flint! Is this intended? It doesnt make a whole ton of sense. I was expecting maybe mushrooms. I also noticed Mycelium gives tainted, but that is unobtainable without cheating, the rare silk touch, or forestry (not to mention mushroom biomes are hard to come by normally) makes that not a great option.
I do definately think that there should be something mundane to research that gives tainted, so one isn't forced to create a tainted biome to get tainted research.

Bit of an odd question, but does anyone have an effective method for tainting an area? I've currently got a crucible of souls set up next to an animal farm whose pipes lead to a storage tank with a filter in the middle (to pump all the taint into the atmosphere). I also have a normal crucible nearby with no pipes attached that I'm trying to overflow, yet it seems to stop at a certain point. So far, tainting the area has been VERY slow-going, and thus I ask again; is there a more effective way to do this?

I would create a setup with a large number of single stacked filters first, then throw a bunch of items into it so it filters it all at once. The taint repairs slowly naturally I believe, or spreads. So the more taint you can spread at one time the more effective it will be.
Alternatively you could do some tainted research to find items that would make it easier to spread. The taint vials, or totem for example. You can research flint in mass quantities to get tainted research.

i said most of it, i occasionally use nbt edit to give myself items im too lazy to find on my own. also, i have no clue where to get eldritch items and artifacts and crap, so might as well use nbtedit and give myself the artifacts. id rather use my Q-box to find the recipe for eldritch stone instead of giving me it straight away.

Just give yourself ender pearls and research them. Bam, eldritch fragments.

Does anyone have a seed for a Silverwood "Forest". In other words a bunch of silverwood trees very close together?

Try the seed "Azanor" head northeast a couple chunks and you can see a pretty nice silverwood forest, several dozen trees at least.

Howdy, love the mod. Wanted to play TC2 so badly I abandoned my premade mod pack and spent all day yesterday custom crafting my own for the first time in awhile heheh.

edit: my question was answered by reading the changelog, apparently updating to the most recent tc2 will fix the holes appearing in the grass, thanks!
