Yeah, I find it too frequent too. On the server where I play, it seems like there's a storm every other (minecraft) day that lasts all day long and into the night.
I wouldn't mind so much if it was just the noise and the increased chance of monsters outside, but it also kills the framerate on my shitty laptop. Any time I can hear the rain I lose ~20 fps.
I was playing during the September 2010 free weekend and audio wasn't working.
I walked out of the front door of my house toward the beach... never thought to turn around to see if something was on my roof and following me...
Got to the beach and died. "WTF?"
I'm not sure how long after that I discovered what a creeper was.
I expect I'll be happy with the change. When powered rails came out, I started the process of replacing all my booster carts.
Now that powered rails are *more* powered rails I should be able to get a little farther. If they're powerful enough I may get a complete overhaul.
I just wonder what Notch meant by, "Fixed minecarts next to each other causing extreme velocities"? Do they simply boost to non-extreme velocities now? If that's the case, why is everyone so angry? Just add more booster stations. Iron is still pretty common.
I'm lazy and don't want to dig through tumblr and twitter, but I'm pretty sure Notch has mentioned dragons a couple of times.
I'd be happy if there were a few dragons throughout the world of various sizes which required very specific tool sets to access and kill. The problem then becomes, why? Why go to the trouble of killing something as awesome as a dragon? What do you get out of it?
Or maybe you don't kill them? Maybe they're the flying mounts that Notch has mentioned (again, too lazy to reference)? Maybe you kill the mother dragon and hatch one of the baby dragons?
I don't really know, but to fit in with the rest of the game, it shouldn't really be a goal in and of itself, but rather something that allows you to accomplish something that you couldn't before.
I'd also like to see one of the below
1. Reduced gold usage for powered rails
[]
2. More power generated from a powered rail
3. More common gold
4. More powered rails created from a powered rail recipe (you get 16 regular rails from 6 iron blocks. Why only 6 powered rails?)
I had a bunch of gold in my most recent world (because it was almost entirely useless) so I started replacing all my booster carts with powered rails. Well, I quickly ran out of gold because it takes a lot of powered rails to send a cart up a hill.
From what I've seen, you need about 1 powered rail per 3 block incline... so to get from sea level to the top of the world you'd need 64 / 3 = ~21 powered rails = 24 bars of gold.
Scientifically speaking, the statement "God does not exist" is nonsense. Dawkins pisses me off to no end on that note, because when he says it, he says it as a scientist.
Yup - he's an ignorant jerk. But some of his ideas are interesting.
It's not hard on single player, and never really has been. However on SMP, I can't kill creepers due to latency causing them to explode when I'm out of their range on my screen. The only safe option is the bow.
With a decent sized mob trap though, it's not hard to get arrows or gunpowder. I use my bow a lot simply because I can afford the ammo, and it's much more effective than my sword.
This. I almost never use a sword in SMP because it's too unreliable.
It doesn't hurt that I have a skeleton grinder in my basement.
My SMP is completely bugged... i can't destroy blocks in any server, but all of my friends can. chat messages I wrote take about 5 MINUTES before they appear in the chat. AND IF I MOVE I GET TELEPORTED BACK 5 MINUTES LATER! Im 100% sure that this problem is client side, because no one else has the problem, and this happens IN EVERY GODDAMN SERVER! Just after I updated this horrible lag started.
I haven't seen any wolves yet so I can't comment on their usefulness or relevance to the core game, but the OP is right. Wolves will probably be an expensive feature to maintain unless they make some serious concessions regarding the concept of a dog (i.e. make it more like a usable object and less like a companion).
I'd personally like to see more time spent on fixing serious bugs, but sadly Mojang is not my company.
I was going to say more, but I thought about it and it was even less useful than what I ended up with. ;-)

Not griefing. Do it now and upload pictures.

Too bad my short attention span (almost) made me miss the building being chased by mobs.

Netherrack and Glowstone will be reason enough for me to make the trip...

That's Richard Dawkins' argument... we're just a tool that our genes use to reproduce.
