So I'm currently trying to build my first CTM map, but I have no idea how to use mods/addons for easier building, nor do I understand how to work with command blocks. As such, I'm manually building everything and will be using nothing but vanilla spawners (if I figure out how to place anything other than pig spawners, that is).
Do people still play stuff like that, or do you have to have fancy buildings, complex command block mechanics and modified monsters for your map to get played now-a-days? Regardless, could someone advice me some mods (that include how-to-install and how-to-use instructions) that might make my life easier..?

A lot of negativity goin' on, but I'm glad we're at least past it, eh?
@MinecraftCTMmaps
Like all the other posts mentioned, it for sure needs detail and a little more space, but it's a start. Perhaps a few other blocks than just planks and glowstone, as well. If you can, try and add some nice columns or division.
@CQ of full-sized map
In my opinion, a full sized map is anything with more than 12 objectives. I mean, look at Vinyl Fantasy. three_two had the same idea, and they are HIGHLY regarded as full-length maps.

Whooh boy, you're...you're pretty harsh. It's been said on the thread before, but simply saying "this area sucks you gotta work on it more, this that" isn't gonna help the mapmaker get better. If you look at someone circa Kaladun, he actually provides a positive outlook to it, and gives the mapmaker advice. This thread doesn't need to become total warfare over aesthetics.
Of course you can, but as you can tell from the Google Doc it's nowhere near ready for beta testing as I've just started work on Intersection 1. I'll be sure to let you know when it comes out.
Screenies won't work on Chrome. Might wanna fix that.
Nice points there, a lot of effort into the post. I agree with most of your points, and true, if you're playing on a smaller SMP server, it's fine if you and your buddies can have fun with skins and all that, but when it comes to those huge minigame servers, it's very abundant, and quite annoying really. If you can't think of an idea other than "emo kid with headphones and hoodie", you're really lacking in originality. Is it BAD if you actually do like skins like that, and that you think they're kinda cool, but you're aware that it's unoriginal? No! You'll probably get judged a bit, but like you said, as long as you're enjoying the game, you can have your skin.
Damn, I ragequit The Painter way too early it seems. I fell into the void in that vertical drop area, forget the name. I should really get around to re-doing that map as soon as I wreck Aima Caves.
I died there too, but after a lot of grinding I came back to it. The map has some GREAT areas after that, by the way. I got to red wool and died again, so I ragequitted, but I'll probably come back to it once I'm done working on a non-minecraft thing.

Map done. Here's my thoughts:
-Level 3, there's a lever I can access from the water, making it so that I can skip half the level.
The plot is pretty solid, as is most of the levels. A little plain, yeah, but it's short and sweet.
On level 5, I could just climb up the vines and cheat.
Also, slight grammar problems but that isn't the end of the world.

I dunno, honestly I'm starting to doubt a map getting finished.

Nah, not really. It's equal in both ways, but I'm not here to circlejerk. 0
By the way, nice skin. It's not (too) unoriginal.
