I just bought and downloaded MineCraft sunday morning and am having a kick with it except for one small problem. I keep starving to death because every new world I have the program create is an island, and not a big one either. Sometimes I have 7 or 8 trees, sometimes only one tree, which kills any chance to make things. I can walk from one end to the other in just a minute or two at the most and I can't see any other land anywhere on the horizon. And very little in the ways of minerals - lots of dirt, sand, some gravel and then lots of stone but the problem I have with stone is I can break it up with a chunk of wood (slowly) but it doesn't yeild any blocks for my inventory, they just disappear. I talked to some buddies that play and they said that doesn't sound right, the stone should be in my inventory.
What am I doing wrong ? How do I create new worlds that actually have lands and countrysides and lots of opportunities to craft inside of these dang islands I keep winding up on with no critters so I end up starving to death
