Been a long while sins I build anything, but I have a project that I have been working on from time to time, and have had some spare time to build on it again. It is good to be able to use the mod again after a while off.
Tried for a industrial district this time, but with a better road and track layout that my last industrial project. This warehouse are apparently working some late hours to make the goods ready for shipping. The tracks are crawling down the narrow alley bethween factories and warehouses. There are also a small part of an old dissused harbourtrack left, A loading ramp in the back alley. Clearly this distribution warehouse are pushing their workers hard aswell, starting up early in the morning and making the freightcars ready to leave. The eletric shunter delivering empty flatbeds for this factory to fill with their goods.

The map does, as always, need alot more work to make it look old and used, but it is a start. I suppose I should start thinking of making a station for the city aswell, in the residential area of the town. But that will have to wait. Impressive, good-looking stations are not my field of work, so not sure how that will turn out.

My downloadable map is now updated with a new savefile using the new tracks. It is once again useable with the newest version of Rails of War, where a long journey awaits with the improwed locomotives.

Doffen, that helper has actually been on my branch for some time now. Surprised you didn't find it earlier. Just to make sure others know: if you place tracks in third-person there's a hologram that appears directly under you. It's not exactly where the track will be placed, but it comes in handy when planning curves. Soccerguy, that might be a bit of help for you when working with those curved sections.

Well, I never build anything in third person, so that is proberly the reason. Just figured it out now by a coincidense. But good job!

A nice update to the locomotives. Its a bit harder to use at first, espesially the Ov, but with a bit of practise I supose it will go just fine. I found one problem though. If you leave a locomotive, and then tries to get back in, it sometimes won't let you do so. You cant enter any stock, and have to exit and re-enter the world, wich can be a problem if you have a train running. I also like that extra "helper" when placing tracks in third person perspective. Don't know if it was intentional or not? But seein the whole rail on the ground while holding it in your hand sure can help placing the turns and switches, even tho it might only be usefull on flat maps.

Not really. I've already made a wand for fixing tracks, and it works fine.

I see. So I just need to load the map with Don's branch, use the wand and the world is fixed? Sounds easy.

One WILL have problems when using old maps with post-RoWD versions of mod, because while the core of the track system remained, Don made an addition to it and now the different way to tell which piece of track a single 'gag-block' refers to is used. As for now, the only way to update the map is to delete all the tracks and place them again using new items, BUT old gags won't cause the whole piece to be deleted... Though I may do some utility item to simplify the process.

However, you continue to amuse me with map-making abilities of yours. Take all those kudos.

Thank you for that information, and the kind words. I supose the best way to fix it is to load the map without RoW, so all the pieces dissapears, and then load it again with RoWD and replace it. I will do that once I get a chanse to do it, and upload a new verion with Don's branch. As of now, you will have to use the old original RoW.

And the red coaches is just a retexture I did on my computer, as Naiten refered to with his link, sins I wanted red coaches with black roofs to look more like the Norwegian State Railways (NSB) colours. Just a personal preference.

Today is a new chapter for my map, once again. I started on a new project a while ago, the one I have posted a few pictures of a few pages back. Some more work have been done to the map, but most importiantly: It is now up for download for those who wish to use it. It is not a seperate world from the other downloadable map I have out there, oh no. I have merged the two worlds together, and it turned out quite ok actually, with a bridge connecting them together. The map is now longer and better then ever, with the main line growing so it connects to a whole new town, where a new railwayline begins, bringing your adventure forther down the line, with new towns to visit.

I did travel the whole distance with a Yer yesterday, and only the Yer. No waggons, no stopping at stations, no switching or turning the locomotive (as you have to do when comming from one line, and will go on the next one, unless you want to go backwards the whole way), just running from one end to the other. It took me 27 minutes to do so. So when you normally will stop at stations, refill coal, switch locomotives, couple/uncouple carts and so on, it will take you a while to go from one end to the other.

I thought I had a picture of the bridge, but I could not find it. So this have to do instead.

So for those of you who are interested, Enjoy. http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/rails-of-war-map-3150057/

    OBS OBS!

This was made with the original RoW mod, so if you use Don's branch, you might have some problems. Atleast last time I tried out his branch, I had to replace every single rail on the map I used it on. If this is still a problem with the mod, then you have been warned. I don't have a copy of the map using Don's branch yet.

Oh man. Those new sounds are amasing. And the "ticking" sounds it makes when it drives, it sounds just like a real train. I am impressed, once again.

Well, I have been building on this map for a while, (much on and off), and I thought I could post some pictures. The map still have a long way to go, and it might, like many of my earlier projects, end up abandonned. I tried to make the railways from two larger cities, and not just small towns. But it is questionable to how it turns out. But anyway, if someone wants to take a look, be my guest.

From inside the main station. Still quite some work to do in terms of detailing, but it is a start. Sadly, I forgot to take a picture from the outside, but maybee another time. It is based on the railwaystation in my home town, with the correct lengths. The map I found didn't leave much spase to make large railyards, so it is a bit cramped.
A sidetrack to a small industrial area, with warehouses and packing-/shippingfacilities for the larger industries arround the town.
Leaving town, the railway climbs along the coastal mountainside, in a harsh and unfriendly climate. Apart from rustproblems from the saltwater, the train makes the journey without problems. It was a harder task for those poor men who had to build it, though, fighting the clock and strong, autumn storms.
Some places, they had to scale up a wall for the railway to keep it from collapsing out in the ocean. After a few landslides, they finaly secured it with concrete and heavy pillars.
When the railway was first buildt, it was balanced close up to the mountain, but after several mudslides, it was moved farther out, and walled up. The space between vas quicly taken to farmland by local farmers, as there is not much cultivable fields around here.
It is not possible to have the railway run allong the mountain everywhere, and they had to make a few tunnels, even tho they where expensive. Some places, like here, the tunnel brakes out in daylight for a few metres.

There are some more parts of the railway along the unfriendly costal cliffs, along with a few bridges, but when it finaly gets to this curved bridge, the locomotive engeneer breathes of relief, as the worst part is now over. From here it is just to enjoy the scienery, and relax as it passes the next towns.
The railway follows this river up to the terminus city, but ofcoure with a detour, as the waterfall is just a bit to steep for the rails...
This station has been closed down for passanger traffic, as it is so close to the city after the modern roads was made. But there is still a few goodstrain stopping here to pick up the goods from the farmingcommunity that is here (Yes, it is not there yet... But anyway), even tho it is increasingly taken over by trucks who brings them to the larger goodsyard.
Approaching the last station. A smal city, where the railway, combined with large power potential from the nerby waterfalls made this town grow from a small farmingtown, to a large industrial center.
The railwaystation, combined with the goodstation. An increase in railtraffic has made this area to quicly become to small, and is therefore causing alot of problem for the industrial community.

The cities on the map is made from mostley "false" buildings, and facades. This makes the city look bigger then it is, and looks ok, as long as people only stays along the tracks. It is one of the things I don't like about the map, but I am not sure if I will change it later or not. Who knows what time brings.

(...) Well, this reply turned out much longer than I initially planned. Back to the topic of patreon — it's not a fee, but a thing absolutely at your convenience. I appreciate it and will find use for an extra penny, however.

Oh no no. I did not mean it like that. I am aware that it is not a fee in that sence, and I supose I should have used another word. I donate the amount out of free will, becouse I think you deserve them. And about the retexturing. I did try to make a new texture once, to retexture the passenger coach into a red, norwegian NSB coach (even tho they never had that kind of coach, but anyway...). I ended up screwing everything up somehow, and just reinstalled the mod. What is the procedure in one wants to try something like that again?

Well I do believe it's Doffen are long lost RoW map maker, It's good to see you back! Hey do you plan on makeing a new map with the new uppdate?

I am just finished with my duty year in the army. They are a little bit afraid that Naiten and co. (The russians, if you didn't get it) will invade our little country, so I haven't had much sparetime. But I sure am looking forward to build some new maps with the new version when it gets released. Maybee a map I will upload some time. Its not easy to get a map complete enough to upload it. I always end up beeing displeased with it ;) But I might be able to find some pictures of the last project, if you are interested, even tho I doubt it will be finished.

Ah, it is so wonderful to see this much great work beeing done at the mod again, and that you got this much enthusiasm again. It looks realy promising, and I am looking forward to building some extensive railways with the new system. Keep up the good work, both of you, and enjoy your free time. Then I will continue to do my "part", by using this wonderful piece of art, and keep paying the patreon fee.

I saw that you missed some update to my citymap railway, Dumboldoor. I have my dutyyear in the army right now, and have therefore not much sparetime. But there have been some progress to that map sins last time, and I can show some pictures if you want to. But even tho this map does have a railway connecting three towns, the railway between the towns are not as much detailed and are of bad quality. I have focused on citybuilding contaning railway, rather then the railwayline itself, on this map. Therefore I do not think the map will be up for download, as there is not (for the moment atleast) a detailed railwayline outside the city. As I am not a skilled citybuilder either, the map looks a bit odd to me. But I wanted to try making a city with a railway, so I gave it a shoot.
This area is showed on a earlier photo. Now it is complete with buildings above and arround the tracks.
One of the dockareas. Here is a coalimport facility. Directly from ship to rail, so the wast transportationfleet of locomotives and ships arround the region have fuel to keep running.
More of the railwayline sneaking arround old warehouses and new industrial and residential buildings. The left track is the one going underground to the railwaystations.
A birdswiev of the new part of the railway. Over to the coalimport, and to the small docks. There is not much railways at this part of town actually, as i focused more on buildings and roads.

I have also made a small update to the downloadable map of mine. I made it possible to turn your locomotive arround at each end of the line, so you don't have to remove your locomotive and spawn a new one. But the new version is not out for download yet. I still have to find time for it in these busy christmas times.

question for y'all: How does everyone operate their railway? I don't mean how you build your route, or what it looks like, but how you manage the trains on said routes? I know some model railroading buffs get pretty involved in things like timetables and schedules, so I was curious what y'all do. Do you just leave your locomotives at the stations and use them only when needed? Do you have a central yard and lend out locos to lines? Do you have (or want to have) a scheduled route between towns? Do you have your routes planned on themes? How often do you actually get in a cab and drive one of the things? Just trying to see who puts their locos to use and who puts them in a tunnel so they won't get dirty!

When I am operating my railway, I operate the trains myself. My railways was not buildt with ROWAM in mind, and is therefore not able to run trains automaticly. I am planing to make my railways able to send trains automaticly, I just have to figure out how I want to do it. It is all single track, and does not go in a loop. So the train somehow needs to be turned. On the railwaymap that is out for download I have now made it possible to turn the locomotive arround using a triangular switching method. This is buildt in both ends of the railway. But I have to manually detatch the locomotive from the carts, turn it 180 degrees, and couple it back on the train to ride in the opposite direction. And an other problem is that my computer is rather bad, and I do not think it would work out to good to have a train running allong the map by itself, as the computer would maybee load to many chunks. And ofcoure there is this thing called sparetime. I have not had to much of that in the last months.
