posted a message on [WIP, NOT READY][Launcher] Minecraft Offline - WIP Custom Launcher for Mod Repos

Have you ever tried installing mods to join one online server, just to have to go back and switch them out for other mods for another server? What about switching to an entirely different version of the game, and then applying different versions of the same mods on top of that? The madness!

Don't worry, this (eventually) won't be an issue any longer!

Open sourced under the GPL v3 license, "Minecraft Offline" is an attempt at a custom Minecraft launcher written in the AutoIt scripting language to make modding environments easier to setup. Due to the scripting language, this custom launcher is limited to Windows, however a rewrite will take place to support all three major platforms in the near future.

Because of the work-in-progress status, please take note that the above-mentioned features are not yet implemented. This custom launcher is in a very early alpha state and is not ready to be used in any way for the average end user. This post is being made to allow people who have an interest in the idea to watch the idea expand and develop into what it's planned to be, and hopefully not be let down in the long run. Development will be high on weekends and rare throughout the week. No compiled binaries will be released until Minecraft can be successfully launched, so any testing will require setting up the AutoIt environment on your local Windows computer.

Current features as of the time of this writing:

    • Successfully login to your Mojang account (legacy Minecraft accounts will be implemented later on, but you should've migrated a long time ago :P)
    • Create a barebone directory structure to operate in
    • Download version manifest
    • Parse version manifest to get latest release version (commented out, but also snapshot version)
    • Download chosen version's index data
    • Download chosen version's JAR file

    Planned features:

      • Properly support Mojang's Yggdrasil authentication service, including logging out
      • Implement proper logic for launching the chosen Minecraft version
      • Download all game assets and libraries required for the chosen Minecraft version
      • Support HTTP-based mod repositories hosted by server owners
        • Download required mods straight from the mod repository
        • Download additional resource packs and apply them pre-launch of game rather than wait for the in-game download prompt
        • Automatically join vanilla and modded servers after the game loads (as you have to close the game to install new mods anyhow)

There is no planned finish date for this project, however development should progress well during the next few months.

Last but not least, here's the GitHub repository for the project: GitHub: JoshuaDoes/Minecraft-Offline

If you support the idea, please give the repository a star and even add it to your watch list! All feedback and support is highly appreciated, even if it's negative. The impact of this project may depend on feedback alone and whether such a launcher should even exist. If you wish to contribute to the project, fork the repository and then submit a pull request after you've finished making your changes. Not all contributions may be accepted due to possibility of feature addition/removal.

And now to hope I've posted this in the right forum...

    :D

posted a message on [JoshuaDoes] 24/7 Survival Games (with a twist!)

[NOT YET OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE BETA ACCESS TO THE SERVER, CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SERVER MUST BE MADE AFTER BEING RECRUITED HERE: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/servers/server-recruitment/2444059-joshuadoes-looking-for-builders-modders-horror]

Lately, a lot of horror adventure maps have been going around, and a lot of them are fairly decent worth being done in vanilla Minecraft. Along with that, some games in recent years such as The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Life Is Strange have come out where the entire storyline is played out by your choices. So this got me to thinking.

What if there was a Minecraft survival server where you do everything you can to survive, but with a twist?

Today, I bring to you my horror-roleplay-based 24/7 Survival Games server. It is actively under development, and will require the installation of Minecraft Forge to load a set of mods developed by me and other members of the team to interact with the server in ways never thought possible. Whether it's using strange spells out of a book to see through up to four blocks, or just the epicness of Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders in general. (Note: The shaders are not included with the mods and neither is any mod not developed by me. You will either have to install these mods yourself, or you can wait for the release of my custom Minecraft launcher that loads you right into the server.)

Currently, no screenshots are available, but they will be soon once I get the official website setup for this server, as that is where everything required to connect to this server will be hosted and detailed.

Now, for a little sneak peak of the main idea behind this...

The main antagonist, "Kamiki Damaru" (I know, I watch too much
anime), was bullied horribly as a kid. It was bad enough to where he was
considered his own species because no one would accept him, and he was
always classified as being lower than the actual monsters that were out
there. But one day, just as he was about to give up on life, an old
staggering lady walked in and stared with a smile. She told him, "Now,
young boy, you can do this if you'd like, but something tells me the
opposite will have a great effect on you." Having no idea what she was
talking about, he went to respond. But before he could, she vanished and
left behind a note with a recipe for a cookie. The odd thing about it
was that it required an overdose of a Chemical X potion. He made this
cookie, and he was too scared to try it. He brought it to school the
next day and set it down in the cafeteria. Intrigued by the smell, a
walk-by student came by and stole Kamiki's food. The student
continuously ate all of his food until it came down to the cookie. The
student didn't notice anything off with it, and after the first bite,
the student began to grow in size. Kamiki stood in awe as the bully
continued expanding, eventually ripping skin and everything being let
    loose throughout the cafeteria.

Soon enough, Kamiki began receiving more recipes for different things
each time he'd meet with the old lady. But one day, he accidentally ate
one of the Chemical X cookies despite it's purple shade, and instead of
expanding and exploding, he mutated into a tall figure with a slender
body. He soon learned that this was on purpose from the old lady, and
after never hearing from her since then Kamiki began learning how to
control his new powers using what he'd learned from the old lady. He was
able to switch back and forth between these two forms, and eventually
he learned how to take on the form of any body slain by his hands at
    work.

So then twenty years later, some of the students return to town for a vacation...

I'm looking for feedback and suggestions! You can also view the server recruitment page above to help out and beta test the server!

(Sorry if I didn't have much. The server is in active development of the plot, the mods, the building, and the actual gameplay idea itself. That's primarily why I have a server recruitment page!)

posted a message on [JoshuaDoes] Looking for builders, modders, horror-based emotional plot helpers, and gameplay ideas.

Hello, and thank you for clicking on this thread!

Recently, I got the great idea that I could do a one-man job at having one of the best rpg horror survival servers ever. Well, I haven't seen any others, so it has to be no matter what. But that's not the point :P

    For builders:

I need a team of builders that can help with designs and detailing of buildings, underground caverns, biome decoration and enhancements, and just making things look beautiful in general.

    For modders:

You must have the essential knowledge of how to setup a build environment for Minecraft Forge and how to create some basic mods using the Forge API. As for what you'd be doing, here's a list of some ideas I had in mind:

Removing all blocks in the current view (without actually removing them, similar to how X-Ray works but not seeing through every single block :>)

-- The possibility of this being called more than once, and having every invisible block be put back into view once called again (unless you feel like having more than one function to toggle things)

The main menu being replaced by loading into the actual server in a ghost mode. (I refer ghost mode to being logged in, but the server sets you to a flag similar to what the Vanish plugin does on Bukkit. You're essentially logged in, but no one else knows you're on and you don't count as actually being on the server based on the max players number.)

-- Having an overlay of actual menu items to click on, like "Connect to Server" or "Settings"

-- The client not being able to request packets for any chunks that wouldn't be in it's view

-- The client being set to spawn in at a fixed position, including the precise direction of where the client will be looking (this idea was inspired by the popular mod "The Aether" back when it was a thing)

-- (Note: I have a basic call in the mod that loads you straight into the server while Minecraft Forge is post-initializing mods, but this is hacky and a better solution is recommented.)

A re-implementation of the old Improved First Person mod, along with HUD adjustments and dual-wielding

Downloading the current state of the server's world to a local singleplayer world

    Creation of entity files

    Automatic mod updater

There's more that are in mind, but they've all already been done and could just be downloaded directly with the automatic updater.

    For the plot helpers:

I already have a storyline in design, and so far I like it. I'd like to hear feedback on it so far, and there's always room for improvement!

    For gameplay ideas:

I need ideas for different gameplay mechanics, such as dual-wielding and spellbooks. Try and base it off of the story plot above!

Ah, thanks for letting me know it at least worked! But can you do me a favor and try and find the specific model of your Intel graphics card? I'm using an Intel HD 4000 for future reference.

    Quote from EbonAbyss»

Well, I don't remember what version of SEUS I was using, but I took this screenshot with the same Intel graphics card that I'm using now. Using a version of SEUS (I am pretty positive).
I did it as a joke because my friend was taking way too long to take a screenshot for me so that's the reason for the wording on it.

posted a message on Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders [compatible with Minecraft 1.12.2 via OptiFine]

    Hi,

Just a couple days ago, I attempted to install the GLSL Shaders mod and the Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders shaderpack into my Minecraft. I've watched many videos on installing these, and the installation is fine and works without issue. My problem, however, is that I am unable to load a shaderpack without the game crashing on me. The error logs and other things are provided below.

    Minecraft Launcher 1.6.11: Game Output - http://pastebin.com/qcmjNcDE

    hs_err_pid3832.log - http://pastebin.com/QrxjDc5i

    DxDiag - http://pastebin.com/FGNqS172

    Shaderpacks installed:

    - MrMeepz Shaders v05 UltraPlus

    - SEUS-v10.2-Preview-1-Ultra

    - Slidurs Vibrant Shaders v1.07 Medium (beta)

    Computer Model: HP Notebook 15-f010wm

Don't believe the internet and how it says it's not a good gaming laptop. I average at about 60 FPS on Battlefield 3.

    Thanks,

    Joshua
