Make the oceans interesting? Shipwrecks! Traders! Pirates! Sea faring Ghosts in shipwrecks! It's not hard. Idea's are easy! Implementation is hard. Some players build in the ocean. so to say players have no interest is probably false.

I'd traverse a vast ocean to encounter pirates and explore shipwrecks, Trade with merchants and fight off apparitions of long dead crew.... maybe the option of a "Houseboat" could be suggested... design just a rudder, anchor, and a sail for crafting... build the base out of wood and make it as big as you want!

I explore caves and abandoned mineshafts a lot with my two kids on our family server. When we hear a BOOM, two of us will start laughing, and whichever one of us isn't laughing is the one who set off the creeper! (We all have good enchanted diamond armor so we almost never die from creeper explosions, but its funny when it's somebody else who gets the big surprise.)

I would never have thought to use Minecraft as a family event/get together. I like the concept of this! If I can just get the wife in on it before we have kids... the game will be so outdated before they're old enough to play it... but if it's not, I am taking this idea! Is that ok?

I really support this idea, Minecraft needs more oceans. Instead of putting in an Ocean Monument they should have made an update like this. Oceans are far too small.

It seems they just can't please everyone... the oceans were big once... but people didn't like it. now they are small... and people don't like it lol

I absolutely love this, but I don't think I want to theme my base around it, however Im definitely going to make one of the exits a volcano that I'll fly out of. I think that'll be sick! I've decided I'm going for a stronghold adaptation that's more natural, lots of wings and corridors with alot of greenery and possibly mini underground biomes such as a lake or a crystal cave that the wallways will run through. If anyone is interested I'll maybe post screenshots once I've made progress. Im starting on the entrance now :D

I am always interested to see other people's creations! Curious to see the crystal cave if you do it...

I like the idea of reintroducing oceans and continents. having a broader space between land does wonders for the sense of adventure and adds that little bit of realism... I like the concept of the sail boat as well. The problem that lies is for players who play on limited maps. oceans would need to be huge to make a sailboat practical leaving little land in a limited map to form... you could spawn in on the game in the middle of the ocean as well, far from land...

I can see the reasons for bringing back and the reasons they removed huge oceans... personally, I missed the huge ocean era so I never knew the trials and tribulations people faced with it. personally, I would rather master a continent than a land mass of biomes...

I've taken to the charge tactic lol. HOW I got there was charging headlong into a creeper screaming like a little girl :P I'm probably only at a 40/60 chance of success, but I use all dia stuffs... so it only takes two hits if I hit the creeper first BEFORE the fuse is lit

If you've got a good large hill or mountain on your island, or can reshape the terrain into one, turn it into a hollowed-out volcano base. Dig a large vertical shaft from top of the mountain down to bedrock, with a lava lake at bottom. If possible, make the shaft gradually wider as you get deeper. Once you get below sea level, put a walkway around the edge of the shaft (either cantilevered balcony style or hallway behind glass or iron-bar windows set into walls of shaft with periodic small balconies) and the occasional walkway across the middle of the shaft. Have various rooms (library, item storage, microfarm, pig or cow pens, etc) accessible from those walkways, and some stairs to get up and down a level.

holy crap that's a lot of detail... If you do this, I want to see screenshots... it sounds epic!

By the sound of everyone, you are not alone! I had the same issue when I first played with mobs. I was on edge, jumped when I heard a zombie behind me, shot bats for goodness sake. But I never left the cave till I had cleaned it out of ALL the resources... the longer I played the less I jumped... but I did get started in peaceful lol

optifine is compatible already with 1.12.1 with forge if you can find it. I found that the twitch launcher really helped narrow that down for the forge.

posted a message on Are Minecraft Servers better than Minecraft Realms?

I would go server. Realms are great for playing with a few friends. And to go back on JerryAttrick's point, tend to be ... well... bland. Server's provide options such as an economy with in game currency, interesting world spawns, a chance to meet new people, share new ideas, and show off your skills. As far as I know, game modes like skyblock and skygrid don't exist in realms, (I didn't dabble too much lol. I got bored quickly with realms,) and they add a new twist to the game which keeps it interesting.
