I can answer the middle one- mobs are neautral in creative because it was very annoying to have mobs following you, shooting arrows at you, even blowing up the stuff you built, so Notch made them neutral.
Most ships have a big cargo hold- a very large, dimly lit room filled with chests and maybe "resource blocks" like melons, pumpkins, ores, iron/gold/dimaond/emerald blocks.
This is a great idea! I'd love to help build interiors, but I don't have any "resume pictures" on hand, so I probably won't be trusted. :/
I give this my support, though! I'd love to see it when it's finished.
My opinion is that it would be better to release the snapshots as normal game updates. This would make it easier on texture pack creators and it would save time for most people. Besides, the bugs are never that bad. I would rather a buggy update every week than a flawless update every month.

Also, Notch never reads these forums, and even if he did, he isn't in charge of programming any more.
