Nevermind, had the F lock key pressed, so F3 wasn't working. Now to get started hunting slimes!

I've been playing for some time, use F3 option A LOT. I know my way around Minecraft and installing mods. I understand the premise of slime hunting and would love to get started-

However, was there a change recently that removed the F3 debug mode? I can't seem to use it. F1 works, and removes the UI. But F3 does nothing. Is this mod supposed to give access back to the F3 debug mode? If so, I might have installed it wrong.

I thought I read on the SDK guns mod topic that explosions are laggy because of the block drops. That it's all the items spewing out that causes the lag. Or at least, contributes to it. Maybe I was confused and misunderstood.

This could have been in one of his videos. The one explaining the difference between TNT and the Nuke blocks.

Is there anyway to take the dynamic reshaping of furniture and apply it to certain normal block types, like dirt, sand, and gravel? Giving them a natural step shape on sides with blocks below on those sides. It wouldn't be something you craft, like dirt stairs, it would just happen naturally on slopes and plains of dirt, sand, and gravel. So they're easy to walk over and navigating the surface landscape isn't such a chore (and so animals don't jump around like morons).

It would give a greater aesthetic smoothness in the landscape and make the game experience less jarring.

I dunno if anyone else hates jumping along their rolling hill sides and sandy dunes, but this would put an end to that strangeness.

Would it be possible to apply your Smart Stairs mod to Dirt, Grass, Sand, and Gravel blocks so that they automatically form a smooth stair step at the sides? It would make walking around the surface so much easier.

Considering for a moment that slow walking still doesn't keep you from falling off stairs, maybe some exceptions to this idea would be dirt on a ledge 2 blocks high. So it only forms stairs if there is a block just blow it on any side, but doesn't slope on a side if there's open air below.

All these guns remind me of someone's mod around here to recreate HL2 in minecraft.

    viewtopic.php?f=25&t=86623&view=unread

Have you considered doing more weapons? I'd love to see something like the crossbow in effect... especially if it wasn't an insta-kill like it is in HL2. So that it pins monsters and animals down. Although, I think that having the full selection of weaponry from HL2 in Minecraft would get a little pointless. Mostly because they're not that different from one another, and Minecraft enemies aren't really designed to be fought with guns. You really only need one handgun and one machine-gun when you're fighting against Minecraft monsters. Especially when ammo has to be crafted ahead of time and doesn't just come loosely dropped from enemies and crates.

...but now I have the hankering to fight a Ghast with a laser guided rocket launcher.

I also love that you've fulfilled my initial reaction I had when I played Minecraft for the first time. I came to this game right after getting really immersed in Spelunky. I always thought, minecraft needs bombs and ropes. Your grenades and grappling hook work exactly like bombs and ropes from Spelunky. I would suggest to be able to make sticky grenades to add to their versatility and usefulness. I guess TNT can be stuck to walls with a block underneath for support, but you can't throw TNT.

Strap some :Spider:'s web onto a grenade, just like in Spelunky.

About Mobs. The one's that do exist, aren't unique enough. The only difference is appearance, sounds, and drops. I am curious to know if you can modify behavior. Like how they're always jumpin' around and wandering obnoxiously. THEY MAKE ME SO MAD. SO MAD. Your sensibilities can't repel anger of THIS magnitude.

But seriously, can you make their movement / behavior patterns different?

    Wow.

That steel picture is beautiful with Ambient Occlusion.

I like the idea of a giant steel mill.

Yes, "Dark Satanic Mills" kind of thing. It just looks right with this texture theme.

The industrial revolution really must have been picturesque hell on earth kind of scenario to inspire that phrase. I find it interesting that we have this imaginary reinvention of that technological era with steam punk, where everything's brass and shiny. So it's cool to see this pack use the Nether to show the gritty underbelly of this Victorian industrial revolution era inspired fiction. Way cool.

posted a message on Deyl's Jungle Safari [32x32]
hey there folks. This idea suddenly struck me while I was making ruins using certain 2x2 square cobblestone textures in the Painterly pack, "I need to make a jungle themed pack to make my ruins look even better." I may have gone a little overboard to achieve those ends.

Here's the pack so far, a break down of the concept, and some screens.

Some of the major changes are...
-Ores are stylized after animals they represent (totally chosen arbitrarily) to the jungle dwelling society that inhabits this pack.
-Trees are now totems. Man stack for the trunk, and hands for the leaves.
-glass, redstone dust, and ladders all create a vine pattern. Redstone reveals a snake in the foliage when lit up.
    -brick is now adobe wall.
-bookshelves are now a colorful tapestry
-Snow is thick plant cover, like clover or something. (not sure what I'm doing with ice... any ideas?)
-gravel looks like piles of gold and jewels? While it's good for decoration, or for pretending there's secret vaults of treasure undergound... or that your arrow heads are rubies, it's not very realistic.
-the alternative sand and gravel textures near the bottom (by the wooden box) are probably going to replace the current ones.

I'm still not sure what I'm doing with...
    Cactus.
    TNT.
    Iron Doors.
    Minecart tracks.
    Crops.
    and especially the Record Player.

Some of these changes aren't final, and if you think some of the major deviations from the original design (snow into clover, or trees into totems) are too awkward, I'm open for suggestions.

    the new ladders.

    the new red stone wire

red stone wire lit (it's a snaaaake oooo a snaaaake)

the hands create a much more obvious parallax effect

from left to right, diamond, gold, iron, and coal. Frog, lizard, bird, and spider.

some gravel, and the snow / clover compared to normal grass.

plus you can see snow has see through spots. (which doesn't work so well with pure snow blocks, but it's great for snow cover)

the new glass. It has no color yet.

Did you know, that with these 2x2 styled cobblestone blocks, you can use stairs to create clever little slots and notches in your structures that look really natural? They even let light through.

when I finish the nether blocks, I'll try one of those HD patchers... so I don't get this nightmare.

Those trees look pretty good. Maybe you could post comparisons for some things like that. So we can see them side by side with the original game graphics.

I haven't actually finished Mother 3 yet, but from what I can tell, that Reconstructed Lion is the greatest thing I've ever seen.

posted a message on [MOD] Marble (3 new blocks, big tiles) [Nov 10 compatible]
Is it possible to make it so that some tiles draw from different .png files?

I could have sworn the HD texture patcher had something like this for moving water / lava. The textures had to be in another .png

Anyway, I made some new marble. They're not exactly ... ummm... realistic. But I had fun making them.

Left: Jagged Stone. Possibly a tad too 3d looking.
Center: Some kind of greenish red stone? I dunno.
Right: Smooth pearly iridescent rainbow stone. I spent the most time on this one.

I'm PRETTY sure they tile seamlessly. I didn't actually check, but I was using Painter's tile mode that wraps brush strokes. It's handy for these little things.

Though I wouldn't want it to be a feature in the full game, I'd love to have it as a mod.

On another note, how did you create the sketch you posted above? Did you use a 3D program? I'd love to create such sketches myself and I'd like to know how you created yours.

I used Google Sketchup. It's a program designed for prototype mock ups. It's super easy to learn if you watch the tutorial videos.

I'd like to add a small request of my own to this. One thing that doesn't make sense to me is when you can create towers of dirt, sand, or cobblestone. I believe that if you ever stack dirt or sand on top of another block and it has block that is at least one level below it to any of it's eight adjacent squares I believe it should fall down.

No. I'm not really requesting this for extensive realism, so much as the aesthetic hint of realism. Plus I like building with Sand and Gravel. They make good building frames, because they collapse from the bottom.

The way I've suggested now, this is designed to create gradual slopes on beaches and dunes that are smooth to walk over.

Yeah, I pretty much had this idea right after watching that show.

To be honest. When Notch makes that "connecting servers portal" I can't imagine minecraft without drills. How are we going to fight the anti-spirals and unite the spiral peoples of the universe without them?!

posted a message on [MOD REQ] Sand Pool
I have, for some time, thought that the surface world could be smoother to navigate. Beaches especially.

I am requesting a mod that makes Sand (and Gravel) create a 2 block pool around itself, along parallel ground. Sand would not create a pool if placed high up. This is designed to make beaches easier to navigate, as well as more aesthetically pleasing. This would be like applying fluidity to sand, but without the flowing current. Just a kind of... slouching pooling effect around sand blocks. Although Sand Pools visually obscure the blocks below them, and are a surface you can walk on, you could still dig blocks out from under them.

This is a demonstration of what I have in mind. Done in Google Sketchup.

See how sand only pools onto parallel surfaces, not over the edges of other blocks.

Would this be even remotely possible, and is there anyone interested in a minor aesthetic mod like this?

Personally, every day I stroll along my blocky beaches, I groan a little.
