nice server, but you have to ban QWERTY and offedpez from it. Two griefers that really screwed up a LOT of stuff

posted a message on I'm looking for a good town-based server
I want to join a server where more or less everyone lives in close proximity to each other. It would also help if there was rping, as well as a good deal of mods. Most servers have towns, but usually there are massive distant towns made solely by one person who constantly wants people to move in because they're lonely.

Does anyone know of a good server for me?

Also, no "I host from my computer, but don't worry its a good computer!" crap. I've fallen for that way too many times. It NEVER lasts.

How the hell did they get your password and username?

    viewtopic.php?f=17&t=117242

Its called Brute Force. Basically, its a tactic that creates a mass amount of guesses to find an account's password

    Something is going on here.

This is far too wide-spread for it to be a coincidence. I have never accessed any phishing sites before.

There has got to be some sort of breach at Mojang. I think someone must have stolen our accounts from the server.

There's no law against designing stuff. Also, Dwarf Fortress magnets wouldn't work out so well since everything is just ASCII. Might as well just release a set of alphabet and Unicode character magnets

I think I hear you Destati. I hear that you value all the hard work that notch put into the minecraft, and the IP off minecraft, and that you get pretty pissed off when someone appears to trying to be making money of either.

Well good news! You and and I can both agree that minecraft is awesome, we both play the game, we are both members of the community, and we are very grateful for the game notch has created.

I think where we will disagree is how to appropriately show that gratitude.

I express myself visually and with things I can make, and i'm grateful to be able to share my talents with the minecraft community.

I definitely don't want to put Notch out, I honestly don't think he has anything to worry about (unless he's considering getting into the magnet manufactuing industy, then i've got the jump on him.) I contacted him and was honest about my intentions. He knows my email and how to contact me, I created these for fun, with the help of my friends to share with other friends, and I couldn't think of a better way to share them with the rest of the community than putting them on ETSY.

As for the money, yes I am charging for them, because I want to be able to continue to give them to people who want them. I mean, come on! little minecraft magnets to play around with IRL? thats awesome! If it turned into a huge deal (and I wouldn't blame notch for doing what he wants with his IP) I would make some sort of abstract pixel art magnets because i'm all fired up about pixelly magnets right now. I know i might sound like one, but i'm not a magnet salesmen, and this is my first time selling anything on ETSY.

As for the Beatles analogy, that would be more like selling bootleg copies of Minecraft at M1n3craft.com. I am not doing that.

First of all, Threadless has its own copyright protection stuff. Also, there is nothing wrong with a shirt that says "Don't fear the Creeper" and a weird green guy on it. Notch doesn't have a trademark on the word "creeper", nor does he own a fanart image of a generic thing with four legs. If it was marketted as a Minecraft shirt, then it would be different.

Anywho, It has nothing to do with Notch's intent to "get into the magnet industry." It has to do with you using another person's work for your own profits. Thats ILLEGAL. Granted, the magnet idea was pretty smart. For that, I give you kudos. Its a pretty creative idea. The problem is that your idea "redistributes" another's works, in this case through the name (You're marketting them as MINECRAFT magnets) as well as through the graphics (which are apart of the Minecraft IP).

Now, a little info about the Threadless shirts. If they do have a graphic from some game (a shirt with the Mario mushroom comes to mind) it is illegal. Nintendo is a weird company though. There's something in the world of law where you have to "defend your IP." What Threadless is doing with this shirt is illegal, but the only one who can really call them out and issue a cease and desist is Nintendo. Keep in mind however, that Nintendo is a Japanese company. Japanese companies have a tendency to not bother with little companies, especially if they don't pose a threat (Maybe 90% of all Doujin mangas are illegal, but no one cares).

You can't email Notch AFTER you choose to mooch off of him. Right now, your only form of defense is denial. If Notch takes any action, I recommend you do exactly what he says. As I (may have) said before, I do not believe Notch will take any monetary action against you. Be happy you angered a nice guy rather than a Bobby Kotick.
