I can be such a retard sometimes. The out of memory error started coming back.

So I removed the aura code... didn't help
I removed all custom gfx... didn't help
I removed particles... didn't help
I removed animated textures... didn't help

I basically removed everything except tile entity and block declarations... STILL DIDN'T HELP


... then I noticed that my new fancy code to save block id's was actually creating two tile entities for the same block.

Apparently MC doesn't like that.

I promised to give you guys a rough outline of what I'm planning in version 2 and how I'd like things to fit together. I'm not terribly good at explaining things as my OP should have made clear, but here goes:

Aura
The magical aura is unique for each chunk and starts out randomized across generated chunks. It isn't completely randomzied however - the starting values is based on things like biome, world, etc. For example, deserts and the nether start out with very low vis auras, while forests and mushroom biomes have strong auras.

Aura strength is just a straight indication of how much vis is floating around - your average aura strength hovers around the 10k mark and the absolute max is 30k. The max also varies from biome to biome.

I'm planning on having dynamic things happen when an aura gets particularly high - possibly sand in deserts could turn to dirt and eventually to grass, etc. I'm associating aura rating with life-force to a certain degree. Low aura have the same effect - drain a forest biome of its aura and it might start turning into desert.

Auras passively regenerate over time at a very slow rate.

Taint
Like aura strength, each biome also has a taint rating that represents how much magical polution is in the area. This value usually starts out at a quarter to a third of the aura strength rating, though this also varies. Swamps and mushroom biomes have much higher than normal taint, while deserts have much lower.

Low taint is always good and nothing funny happens, but high taint will start causing strange events and also change things in it's chunk - trees might mutate into magical/corrupt versions, dangerous mobs spawn there, etc.

Aura/Taint Bleed
Aura and taint strengths aren't static. If an aura or taint is a lot lower than that of neighbouring chunks, it will start siphoning vis or taint from that chunk to increase its own rating. So this means taint or low aura areas can spread - and (obviously) the other way around as well. Aura and taint ratings don't equalize however - there is a bit of math involved, but the end result is that they try and get within a certain range of each other and then the bleed rates slows and eventually stops - if this wasn't the case the entire world will eventually have the same aura/taint rating in all chunks as they average out. Boooooring.

Note, this margin is a lot smaller for taint than it is for aura rating, thus taint spreads more easily.

Vis Ore
Vis crystals will be an ore in v2 that you can mine. It will still drop from certain mobs, but your primary source will be the ore. There is 6 types: "generic", fire, air, water and earth vis (roughly the same as now). The sixth type is tainted vis crystals. The types of vis spawns in differing depths. Tainted vis is very rare, but normal vis crystals can change into tainted vis if the aura taint rating rises too high.

Some vis crystals can be mined twice, but careful care must be taken not to overmine them - the aura regeneration rate in a chunk is based on how many crystals there are - mine too many crystals and renegeration can slow or even reverse, causing the aura to deplete over time.

Crucibles & Conduits
They will serve the same function as now and the basic crucible will probably still be the first thing you need to build. How they work however has changed slightly. They are also not supposed to be the main/only source of vis anymore.

Firstly, they are a LOT slower. As you may know crucibles have a cooldown period after burning high value items. The new tier 1 crucible has a similar cooldown period for a piece of dirt that the previous version would have had for a gold block. This improves with higher tier crucibles, but the new thaumium crucible is still a lot slower than the current smelt rates.

Secondly, crucibles have efficiency ratings now. The basic tier 1 crucible has a rating of 50% - you only get half the vis an item is worth - the other 50% is not lost however, it is just unusable "tainted" vis. It fills the curcible and flows through conduits just like normal vis, but blocks like the infuser and duplicator can't use it - they only draw the pure vis out of conduits so eventually the tainted vis will clog your conduits. There will be ways to remove it.
It is just possible to see in the crucible screenshot a few pages back that the vis seems very dark - its shade varies with the purity rating of the vis giving an easy visual que as to how many tainted vis is in your system (though detectors will give more accurate ratings obviously).

Upgrades: Higher tier crucibles will have better efficiency and speed, but the top tier cricible only has an efficiency rating of 90%, 10% of the vis created is still tainted. There are however ways to improve these ratings via special blocks. I don't want to go into too much detail now - it is all still WIP.

Overflowing: When a crucible overflows any tainted vis simply evaporates into the aura increasings its taint. I'm still deciding what to do with the pure vis: Some of it is might get lost, some if might return to the aura, or I might retain the puddle system. I'm not sure yet.

Helper Blocks
I just want to touch on something real quick. While some items, like the crucible, will have different tiers you can craft, a lot of other items will be upgraded by stuff I call helper blocks. These will be blocks you place adjacent or nearby certain blocks to improve their function. Most of the time helper blocks will themselves have a function (like the Thaumic Furnace). Other items might be their own helper blocks - see condendser.
The Arcane focus for the Arcane Bore is an example of what I'm talking about.

Condensers:
Their name might change and their function will as well. They will be more similar to the v1.0 condensers in that they create vis instead of crystals. Obsiously, they do this by sucking it from the aura. Condensers will probably have several tiers or upgrade paths to improve their function and will now be a major source of vis alongside crucibles.
Low tier/unupgraded condensers will be very slow, but safe. High tier/upgraded condensers will have increased speed, but may cause taint. Still a lot of WIP/TBD stuff here.

Condensers will be stackable on top of each other thus acting as their own helper blocks.

Duplicators & Infusers
Pretty much the same as now. Infusers will become a bit more complicated though, having more than just two slots for infusing - it will be possible to fuse more than 2 items together allowing for more complicated "recipes".

New things
Here are some new blocks I have planned. These are just ideas, and might never see the light of day.
- Thaumic Furnace: Just a better furnace? Sure, but that is boring. This item will have many uses beyond smelting your iron - this will be a helper block as well.
- Arcane Bellows: I helper block for the most part (handy for stuff like the crucible and furnace), though I can imagine a few uses it could have as a block in its own right.
- Summoning symbols: Still considering this, but symbols that do their work via a mob - like the dirt symbol that actually has something that tills the ground and harvests instead of just doing it with a *poof*.
- Item repairer: Slowly repairs items at the cost of vis. Will allow repair of enchanted items (hopefully).
- Filters: There will probably be more than one tier of this item. It will remove tainted vis from your conduit system. The first tier will just pump it into the air as taint. Higher tier or related blocks might even be able to purify tainted vis.
- Aura Manipulators: Still VERY TBD, but these will allow you to help increase regeneration rate, slow/speed-up the natural bleed rate, lower taint (or at least "push" it away from the current chunk), etc.
- Taint blocks: Items and machines that actually use taint as a resource. Obviously dark magic type stuff :smile.gif:
- Necromantic Crucible: Several people suggested this - a way to get vis from living creatures. Obviously a large source of taint as well.

Things that might get cut from v2
- Apportation wands. I originally added them as a means to move monster spawners - while never stated that is their #1 function. Alas, they cause a lot of problems - bug wise and what they do with other mods. Even with my own mod they cause issues - have you ever tried to move a symbol with one? They might survive in a lesser form.
