You should take down the 1.12 spoiler bit. It's terribly misleading, and actually pissed me off a bit. Just show the message about 1.12 not being available yet.

Aug 15, 2012Programmer ego, is quite common, and usually a sign of a person who actually isn't all that good in their given field. Here's the thing though: for every "good" programmer, there are hundreds of newcomers to the scene, who constantly ask the same questions. There is a methodology to getting into the mod scene, game development, programming in general, etc. and it starts with this: learning the basics. Then the intermediates. Then the advanced stuff. Then realizing you don't know ****.Posted in: Mods Discussion
Most games that can be modded, engines that have open sources, etc., have API documentation. If you know the basics, intermediates and advanced elements of a given language, it usually only takes a read-over of that documentation, if not just the comments in code- to start cracking down and making something cool.
That doesn't mean you can't learn by asking questions, or fumbling your way through the dark to make a mod or game. You just won't be received too well by the more... egotistical types in the crowd. I'm not a good programmer by any means, but I get irritated by the same constant questions in forums, the net in general... anywhere really. Google exists, documentation exists, and the same answered questions exist. Nobody is sitting nearby coding for me, I have to do this on my own for the most part. Why do these whiny noobs get all this help?
It's just how it is buddy... you can't take it so personally. In fact, grin and bare it. You're gonna get a lot farther that way, and once you do finally release a mod or game, whatever... you are going to have a whole new situation to deal with: your end-users. They are meaner and less educated when it comes to the code end of the picture.
Aug 15, 2012Dude, you really need to change the title of this post. It's a bit of a jerk thing to do, to name it something so directly related to what the mod author would name it, and I bet a ton of other peeps came in here thinking this was some official thread relating to ModLoader. Learn fora etiquette please.Posted in: Mods Discussion
