Problem with copying/moving sitting wolves resulting in "stuck wolves" or wolves that don't respond to you anymore.

I have this problem from time to time. I figured out the cause. It isn't an MCEdit problem. The wolves are assigned an owner. If you are logged in and tame a wolf that wolf is assigned to your logged in name only. Later, if you are in Offline Mode and not signed and you've copied a tamed wolf it will not recognize you as the owner.

Simply close Minecraft, make sure your internet connection is active and open Minecraft and login with the username you made the tame wolf as. The wolf, even though it is in a different world will now recognize you.

This will also happen with any wolf you have tamed under your logged in username without ever touching MCEdit. Try to play in Offline mode then see if your old tamed wolves respond to you. They won't until you log back in.

Now, here is the kicker. If you are in offline mode and you tame a wolf, that wolf will be assigned "Player" as its owner and it will only work for you when you are in offline mode. When you log in with your user name it won't respond to you.

That is the problem here. It is a feature that allows people to have tamed wolves in SMP without other people stealing them. It has nothing to do with MCEdit. However, MCEdit could have an added feature to reassign a wolf's owner.

This will mean that if you are making an adventure map for other people they will not be able to use the wolves because those wolves will be assigned to your user account. For people making adventure maps, you may get around this by playing in offline mode, taming wolves, then copying those. When other players download your adventure map, tell them to play in offline mode so the tamed wolves will work for them (because in Offline Mode your default user name is "Player" for anyone in Offline Mode.)

MCEdit is an excellent tool, but I have one question.

You see, I'm making this adventure map. I want to make an area that has the ground covered in soul sand. Is there a tool or something in MCEdit where I can either "cover" blocks easily or a tool that switches one kind of block to another? Using the selection tool is impractical, because it creates completely flat terrain.

Select the area where you want to change one type of black into another. Click on the "Fill and Replace" tool. Select the type of block you want to change. Then click on the word, "Replace" and select the type of block you want the first block type to turn into. Click, "Replace" again and the change will be made.

For changing only the topsoil, select the area you want affected, select the "Filter" tool, change the filter to, "Topsoil" and select the number of blocks deep you want this to affect. Select the type of block you want the topsoil to turn into and click "Filter" to do it. Play around with it.

It would be nice if there was a "Sprinkle" tool that allowed you to lay blocks on top of existing blocks over a wide area. It'd be nice for planting saplings, mushrooms, flowers, etc.

    (Edited for weird copy-paste typo.)

EDIT: The problem with the Chunk Redraw seems to be tied directly to the angle of the view.

Short answer: Move your mouse out of the window to tell MCEdit to prioritize chunk redraw over ordinary rendering.

Luckily, this doesn't seem to happen all the time. It took me a little while just now to find a place and view angle where this is a problem. Moving the mouse to the Windows Task Bar does work in updating what I've done, but a quick right-click angle change is much faster. I can't fathom why at one angle it updates properly and at another angle, working with the same area, it doesn't update properly. Regardless, it is still a pain when it occurs.

so would it be possible for me to copy those chunks from a backup and put them in the current world?

That is exactly what I normally do. I've only tried deleting chunks and allowing them to regen once and it worked. Make sure you use the Chunk tool to delete them. Then walk to that area from someplace far enough away so that it will not have loaded when you entered the world.

Noob here, trying to make some adventures for my kids on a server I run for them.

    Two problems I am having.

1-How do I place different mob spawners? So far the only one it lets me place is the pig spawner.

2-when i leave a water or lava block with a free side, so that it should flow, when the map loads up it doesn't flow into the adjoining blocks as it should.

    Thank you

It sounds like you are making maps for SMP, right? Mob spawners that have any light near them in SMP seem to turn into pig spawners with pigs that can not be killed. So, if your spawners are making pigs then there might be light near them?

When I place water blocks in MCEdit, I always surround the block with fire blocks so the fire will die out when I enter the world. It updates the water block and allows it to flow. Of course, you can't have anything flammable near the fire blocks when doing this.

Why are you running at such low resolution?

It is the best resolution for a 17" CRT. MCEdit is wonky in all resolutions on this setup. At 1280 x 1024 max res for this monitor MCEdit only shows about half the screen most of the time in smaller windows.

I've had this problem and it seems like it worked better after shrinking my MCEdit window a little bit -- in fact, the entire program seems to work a lot better when the window is smaller. I've had MCEdit crash and do weird things when in fullscreen. So, I always keep the window size moderate.

My god, I tried resizing the window and the program goes completely wonky. I can't test your fix for it with that method.

If I make he window smaller, nothing resizes inside the window. Instead, it stays the same size and sometimes repositions tools and stuff off the edges of the window where I can't access them. Then when I make the window full screen, the entire active content of the window becomes small and...well, this pic explains what it looks like

Top image is the smaller size window while I'm pressing Ctrl for the menu. You can't see all the Ctrl menu options.
Bottom image is making the window full screen after that. It stays the same size inside the window and leaves those empty black areas. Note the location of my mouse cursor. It is controlling the size of the selection box in that pic; it is offset. I can't click on "Ok" for dialog boxes that pop up because it is like the mouse cursor location is "ghosting" 2 inches below where it shows the cursor to be. Closing and opening the program fixes this problem; I just can't be playing around with the window size.

    >can select single blocks again

Nice! Now I can quickly remove mistakes when speckling smooth stone walls with cobblestone and mossy cobblestone (when the mouse accidentally selects a corner edge and places the block in the air instead of inside another block when "Surface" is unchecked in the Brush tool.) Oh wow, I just found out that when you are inside the selection box you can't click on anything except the walls of the selection box....luckily Ctrl-D deselects. lol

However, in Alpha 94 64-bit, I've noticed that when you click on any side of the selection wall there will often times be a flash of another view. Here is an example of what it looks like (mad printscreen mashing to get the bottom pic). The upper pic is the normal view that I have moved the camera to. The bottom view is what flashes quickly when I click on the side of the selection box. It seems to do this anywhere with any size selection box. This doesn't seem to harm anything, does not last more than a few milliseconds, but it is a bit annoying.

Another thing is how the Brush tool and Chunk Redraw function while in the mode that does not move your view around while moving the mouse. I can use the Brush tool as many times as I like and the Chunk Redraw will not redraw (chunks stay red) and show the changes until after I right-click to enter the mode where you can move your camera view around with the mouse. This makes it a bit awkward to do many edits with the Brush tool. I'm not sure when this started, I think around version 92 or slightly prior to that. All other tools seem to update the chuck properly and instantly regardless of the right-click view/movement mode.

EDIT: The problem with the Chunk Redraw seems to be tied directly to the angle of the view. If the camera is angled from the horizon down it has this problem. When looking from the horizon up, with the camera, it does not have this problem. Just 1-2 blocks angled down from the horizon seems to slow down the Chunk Redraw while 3+ blocks down stops it completely until the view angle changes. This seems to happen differently when you have circled around to a different side of the same chunk. It is definitely view position related. Weird.

Love the program, but the "easier" Selection tool makes it (seemingly) impossible to select just one block. I'm used to double-clicking to select one block (essentially, placing the yellow and blue corners on top of each other). It doesn't seem to want to do than anymore, forcing me to have to do some unnecessary camera rotation to select the right face to shrink the selection to just one block.

Jesus, that was a terrible explanation. Did any of that make sense?

I'm having the same problem. When you multi-click a block to select it, it will make a larger selection instead of selecting the single block you are clicking on. Now, I need to right-click and adjust the distance of the selection tool with the mouse wheel then do the clicking to make this work. It seems like when we multi-click on a single block that it thinks we want to make a new selection, but then move a side of the selection instead of keep making the selection smaller. It would be nice if we could hold down a button then click and it would select a single block or have a toggle for it.

If you roll the mouse wheel while hovering over the icons for block types in the below image, multiple block selection lists will pop up; one for each rolling-click of the mouse wheel.

In Alpha 92 64-bit, when trying to place an imported schematic, use the Brush tool, or place something cloned onto a layer of (78.0) Snow Layer, the selection box seems to go through the snow layer to place the top of the selection box, flush with the top of the block under the snow layer. Normally, the bottom of this imported selection would be flush with whatever block the mouse cursor is on; allowing the imported selection to rest on top of the block. This occurs irregardless of the Surface toggle being on/off when using the Brush tool. See this pic as an example.

Alpha 92: You can drag the walls of the selection box to resize it. Also, "Sticky Corners" is the default behavior for the selection tool.

This is awesome! No more tedious nudging! There should be a way to autoselect and place the last imported schematic with a hotkey. It would be nice if the clone and import tools remembered your, "Chunk Align", "Repeate", "Copy Air" and "Copy Water" settings or at least toggle to remember them.

I would think that it would only change those leaves with different colors, not leaves of a different type; since pine leaves are a separate selection. Just a thought.

    Facepalm x2 combo.

Pine Leaves are a subtype of Leaves.

At that time, there were inconsistencies with the way they were listed which was causing my confusion (like the missing leaf types in prior versions). Regardless, some sort of way to select multiple block types to interact with would help with this sort of thing. Example, if you press and hold "Left Shift" while selecting blocks in the list of blocks, it would place them in a second list. Then you could replace only the blocks on the second list with whatever block you wish to replace them with.

That way, things like wool color and leaf type could be changed without affecting their non-selected subtypes and you would not need to do a Replace for each and every subtype. Example, select only (18:2) Birch Leaves and (18:5) Pine Leaves (Decaying), which get placed in the new selection list then use the Replace function to replace those blocks with (18:0) Leaves.

    ----

It would also be nice to hold a button to select individual blocks that are scattered away from each other without needing to select blocks in between them or just an "add to selection/remove from selection" tool. A selection tool that allows you to click on one block type that auto-selects any block of that type that is touching it would also be great (similar to Photoshop's magic wand tool).

Here's my latest. I'm skipping a few projects and jumping to what I made today. A grist mill, in this case a windmill. I’ve wanted to do one for ages now. It was more difficult in designing this in MSPaint than actually building it in Minecraft. The sails were easy too when I realized I could just start at the bottom and build up with them. No dirt scaffolding needed. I did run into one major problem with the second building. The top stairs of the roof were perfectly divided by the edges of chunks so the stairs became invisible. I had to use regular wood blocks for the peak instead.

Here's a couple night and inside pics.

I never saw a single slime until the 1.3 update. Now I see them all the time. I have a cave where I lead large-huge slimes into and break them into small slimes. I'm trying to get them to grow into larger slimes again. I'm trying to get a lot of slimeballs; to no real end, just experimenting. So far, none of the small slimes have been growing at all. I'm beginning to wonder if they only grow from small to large if they are spawned and not split, but that doesn't make sense.
