posted a message on Blocks made by fill command all disappear after removing one.

so u either need to set its data value to a non decaying number(earlier game versions) or for more recent versions/future proofing, set the block state

posted a message on what's up with modpacks?

if u look into creating ur own pack, u will find that a large number of mods are available for 1.8, but the they may not be stable enough on their own, let alone in a mod pack for the people who run FTB, Tekkit, etc to make official packs. I dont know about tekkit, but FTB with the Curse Client has a bunch of unofficial mod packs up for 1.8

posted a message on why we have the item stack limits we currently have
    Quote from Akrivus»

Items in stacks are individual items clustered together so they are easier to pick up. As far as the the throwables, I think that is to prevent spamming those items. Nevertheless I'd enjoy it if I could hold more than sixteen eggs in one stack.

As far as i am aware the rendering engine does not treat them as individual items, it was as much a convenience thing, as a method to reduce lag. and you can see this if you check your entity count as you throw items into a stack already on the floor

    Quote from Akrivus»

It is more of a gameplay feature than it is a performance feature.

Imagine how efficient you would be if you brought so much food it would have filled your inventory but in one stack, and then you started mining with a huge supply of crafting materials. You could be totally self-sufficient underground, mining hundreds upon thousands of cobblestone blocks, all in one single inventory slot, which means you don't have to worry about disposing it or returning back to the surface to empty your inventory and restock.

Also, think about how much lag all those items could cause when you end up getting killed or dying.

Like how currently certain items are limited to 16 to a stack, you could do the same with larger stack sizes. Setting the limit to infinity would be unreasonable, but changing it from 64 for a stack of cobble to say 512 wouldn't be so bad, and considering the large numbers of different blocks we can have now compared to how many we use to have when the inventory started out, it would do a lot for current inventory management which is a colossal pain. In fact we have already had this happen with things like doors, because of how frustrating it was to place doors when they were limited to 1 per stack.

Also on death the items would cause no more lag then they do now, u drop items in stacks on death, not as individual items, and the number of stacks you carry doesn't change

posted a message on /gamerule with radius
    Quote from KSKISPER»

/execute on an entitiy when @p is in a radius with a score that dictates the opposite objective, when in that radius keep inventory is on and switches the score. The radius parameters can be handled with r= and rm=. I just did something similar to this and this is super easy in 1.9

Unless you want it to be player specific. Then no it doesn't work for multiplayer but in single player very easy. The gamerule would work on all players when in radius, but it's not a problem when alone. With chain conditional command blocks we can make if/else statements which makes this way easier than in 1.8 .

Gamerules can be executed in command blocks. So this is definitely un needed.

Fill clocks were very easy to implement, and yet we got repeat and chain command blocks, having an engine side way of doing things is cleaner then work arounds,

posted a message on Locked accounts

How old the buyer is is not relevant. Illegitimate is illegitimate. At best you can claim ignorance of the rules in which case you may not get punished, ie not fined. If they wanted a proper version of minecraft they should have talked to their parents in the first place, not after they bought a cracked account. One of the reasons for not allowing people to sell accounts is to stop name farming.

Thats just tough luck the people who bought the game before you are fully entitled to that name until the game no longer exists, whether they are active now or not is irrelevant. Having bought from an illegitimate source entitles you to absolutely nothing

posted a message on Is this cheating?

In terms of single player u can do whatever u want and not have it being cheating aslong as u feel like its not.

My world is also custom gen with most things more common(also double height and larger biomes) because i dislike having to go caving for long periods if i run out of materials in the middle of doing something but at the same time i enjoy just caving when i want to

I also regularly switch between survival, creative and spectator to look at things that i have been building or to move faster, like trying to find end cities, to me the aimless wandering thru the same terrain was not fun so skipped it, ill do the same to go up from my mineshaft to the surface or to check underground structures i have built.

I also make custom recipes for rarer blocks or items(mostly due to larger biomes) that i consider reasonable and balanced and as such dont consider them cheating. Going along with custom recipes i have also skipped nether tunnels in favour of a teleporter as the journeys in the nether were over 3000 blocks but I had to "throw" away the amount of rails needed to make that journey and im undecided as to whether it should also use an enderpearl every time i use it.

I was also working on a guardian farm but was to lazy to place all the layer separation by hand to i used /fill but now i need to fill 6 double chests with stacks of logs before i allow myself to use it, because to me just spawning it in would be cheating but if it has a cost associated with it, its fine.

posted a message on Microsoft's Influence on 1.9 Update??

and those obvious changes are delivery not game changes.

I dont think True Cross platform was ever not an idea mojang had but they like nearly every other developer have been limited by the console companies simply not allowing it, sure microsoft is pushing for the pocket edition to have it, but they arent exactly pushing for the pc version to have it, and again mojang is only directly responsible for that one, they dont make changes to the pocket edition

posted a message on Microsoft's Influence on 1.9 Update??

the fact microsoft "assisted" in the making of the xbox version is not relevant, that was released well prior to the sale and by that logic sony has had influence on minecraft because they "assisted" in its development of the ps3/ps4 version. and then Nintendo, and then google, and then apple and then amazon, but none of the have. Well the google developers have had the most influence seeing as Beetroot has finally made it into the main game.

Not pursuing minecraft 2.0 isnt relevant either as it was a confirmation by microsoft that contrary to the fans fears they would not be making a minecraft 2.0, has nothing to do with mojang.

The rest of ur references are to what microsoft is doing with its IP, and outside of the pc version mojang is not the lead developer. microsoft is free to do whatever it wants with its IP. So if we say the lead team for the general gameplay(not distribution) direction is mojang but there are atleast 4 other teams doing development on the other versions, they would atleast be feeding ideas upwards instead of just copying what mojang is making.

    From Dinnerbone:

“For people who want to play on PC servers, or use mods, then the PC
edition is strong and alive and that is the version we recommend.”

That is mojang saying use the pc version while microsoft is trying to push for people to shift over to windows 10 by enticing them with holo lens, some cross-platform without doing anything to the mainstay version of the game

    Quote from FirEmerald»

I made the mistake of assuming you meant the PC version of Minecraft.

Silly us for assuming he was talking about the version mojang is responsible for

posted a message on Microsoft's Influence on 1.9 Update??

but jeb was the one who said it, ur inferring he meant the microsoft cross device, rather then true cross platform which is and will always include the current gen of consoles, based on other people, who u have not shown articles of, im arguing with the information u have provided, and have found it incredibly lacking as a way to back up ur argument.

I think u skimmed part of what i wrote, i specified that all 3 of the companies have said no to cross console play, but since we are talking about microsoft that was the one i focused on.

Minecraft doesnt need a specific OS to run, so whether or not there is one for windows doesnt really effect it, unless ur saying they are going to push uber hard on mojang to only develop the win 10 version of minecraft.

it doesnt matter whether or not it is a good business decision to not allow cross play between different consoles, they have disallowed it. there are very rare exceptions to this for example. so jeb could actually be talking about play across the different devices, and considering microsoft has not stopped the sale on the other consoles(the wii version coming out after the sale?) i think this is within the realms of possibility

posted a message on Microsoft's Influence on 1.9 Update??

then use the tweet as ur example, not the article.

cross console is part of cross platform. the cross platform development was happening pre microsoft and has continued to happen since

I repeat Microsoft has historically disallowed cross console play, even if the cross play was only xbox->pc, ps->pc and never ps->xbox for the same game. In fairness all the console companies have done this, with perhaps the least aggressive being Nintendo and there are software obstacles to overcome, all have said yes to just cross play with pc however. So if anything the mojang has influenced microsoft not the other way around.

posted a message on Microsoft's Influence on 1.9 Update??

I think you have misquoted both parties, as i could not find either of those statements from those two in the article. What comes from matt booty seems like bog standard of a larger company that owns a smaller one but wants to look like it still cares about that small company. And as for jeb he is talking about across all platforms, that would include playstation and wii, which historically Microsoft has disallowed any cross play to. The fact that they are bringing what is now their ip to windows 10, and to their holo lens is neither here nor there as it does not effect the development of the main game

posted a message on Simple Question. Are Coordinates Broken? Allow Me To Explain.

its just how maths works out when u deal with things that are inclusive, a good example of this is years. Say i win a competition every year from 2009 to 2012, how many times did i win? At face value it is 3, but that is not the case. In reality i won it 4 times, once in 2009, once in 2010, once in 2011 and finally once in 2012. Same logic applies to the co-ords of blocks, in your case you have 166,167,168,169 and 170 thus making 5.

If that doesnt make sense then the only alternative i can offer is that when you do such subtractions you go to the first block that is not in your lay out and subtract that from the highest co-ord block that is in your lay out. Which is the equivalent of going here are 170 blocks, but i dont care about the first 165 of them thus leaving me with 5

posted a message on Player Movement Detection

Ive been look for a solution to this for awhile, could never find anything actually useful. Finally solved it today, thought i would share.

9 command blocks + 1 for scoreboard initialization, + however many you want to use to process the direction.

    scoreboard objectives add Movement dummy

    execute @p ~ ~ ~ detect ~ 40 ~ quartz_stairs 0 scoreboard players set @p Movement 4
    execute @p ~ ~ ~ detect ~ 40 ~ quartz_stairs 1 scoreboard players set @p Movement 1
    execute @p ~ ~ ~ detect ~ 40 ~ quartz_stairs 2 scoreboard players set @p Movement 2
    execute @p ~ ~ ~ detect ~ 40 ~ quartz_stairs 3 scoreboard players set @p Movement 3
    execute @p ~ ~ ~ fill ~10 40 ~10 ~-10 40 ~-10 air 0
    execute @p ~ ~ ~ setblock ~ 40 ~1 quartz_stairs 2
    execute @p ~ ~ ~ setblock ~ 40 ~-1 quartz_stairs 3
    execute @p ~ ~ ~ setblock ~-1 40 ~ quartz_stairs 1
    execute @p ~ ~ ~ setblock ~1 40 ~ quartz_stairs 0

In one chain of command blocks, in that order.

It obviously works with any block set and at any height. I think if you really wanted to you could add diagonal checks but i don't need them so haven't invested any time into it.
