I can mine obsidian without diamond, but it takes hours even with a golden or iron pick.

No, you can break obsidian. You can't mine it for the resource.

I have some stuff on top of the nether and my sl is 0. I guess it is a bit buggy, which is fine because we aren't really supposed to be up there anyway.

You might want to consider revising a few lines in your guide to clarify that ;)

Villages are possible in the nether. You just have to build the doors on top of the bedrock ceiling. That's not so hard, if you find a thin spot in the bedrock and have some ender pearls. You won't be able to get the villagers up there, but you could have them running around just below the ceiling, and still near enough the doors to have them count. More trouble than it's worth? Probably. Would I recommend it? Nah, not really. But is it possible? Certainly.

I was under the impression that to be considered houses, they had to have a high sl value. Above the nether bedrock, the sl value is still 0.

posted a message on Villagers won't move to new houses
One of the quirks of villagers is that they tend to move toward one corner of the town based on the code used in pathfinding and them seeing a certain house first, they will eventually head that direction. That being said, it's broken in my opinion and needs a better check.

Regardless, and I'm not 100% sure here, but I think the villagers can only see houses that are within 16 blocks of them.

A quick possible fix would be to cage a couple of villagers in the area they are crowding around and then busting all of the doors around them. They might migrate to spread toward the center and spread out from there.

The villagers themselves don't. The concept of a village does because of how the game decides what a house is. IronMagus has it all explained in great detail in the link in his signature. You can find him as "the most intelligent poster on most threads in this forum."

Villages aren't possible in the nether, due to them requiring skylight (which doesn't exist in the Nether.)

If I remember right, a solution to this was using a minecart to push them through the portal from the nether to the overworld. I haven't tried it myself, but that was successful in the past when someone asked for a solution before.

    Quote from Dominicus_Saxon

Okay, in final stage, got the people pods setup, the spawn areas made and the doors installed and glassed up to the surface. Now, last question I can think of is - do the villagers need sunlight too ? And if so, how much ? Like a single row of glass to the top or their whole pod ? Oh, and does it matter if one pod has 8 people and one has 3 or does there have to be at least 5 in each pod ?

First off, earlier I suggested the piston instead of lava because most servers are a bit antsy about giving players lava.

Anyway, the villagers themselves do not require light. I have mine covered up in complete darkness and they spawn just fine.

They do not have to be even, but you need at least one per pod to get the center of the village corrected. I'd suggest 2 to make repopulation easier in case something odd happens (a villager suffocates in a wall or something)

posted a message on I need help with my slime farm.
Lighting up caves WILL have a major effect. The same logic behind lighting up caves for any other kind of mob farm, when you eliminate all other possibilities, the only thing left will be slimes.

You also need to increase the available spawn points as much as possible. 16x16 is good, but you know what's better? Eight 16x16 floors with a few air blocks between each one.

As far as maximising spawn rates PER FLOOR - use jack o' lanterns as a light source on the floor. They are opaque and therefore allow slimes to spawn.

Oh, I was slightly expecting this. I wasn't sure whether or not the custom super flat worlds could have ores and such, but I guess they can.

You don't need ores or anything either. A generic superflat world has more than the necessary supplies to thrive.

and super flat worlds, which, I believe, are completely impossible to live on and thrive on, for that matter.

Then clearly you need to be a bit more creative with your problem solving skills.

Beds explode anywhere there isn't a night/day cycle so you can't sleep in The End. But why would you need to, anyway?

Well, setting your spawn point, I guess. How do you plan on stopping yourself from respawning in the overworld when you die? Or is this for Hardcore?

I'd imagine you'd just set spawn next to your portal and jump in.
