posted a message on Can Creepers...?
My friend heard that it's a 50/50 chance for a block to be generated by an explosion. I was surprised to find iron once that way. I think he got it from the Minecraft wiki.

If TNT can break through Obsidian, then it's possible that you can get Obsidian by TNT mining. :smile.gif:
But yeah, explosions can create items. Even Creeper explosions.
Chris the Mushroom, maybe you have a buggy copy of the game if items don't show up for you?

    Thank you, Zund.

Yes, diamonds do shatter rather easily in real life.
I could have sworn I mentioned that in my post. Odd.

Also, I wonder what dormouse meant by strength.
Because a Tungsten sword wouldn't be that effective either.
Also, Osmium has it beat in density.

Maybe if he'd post again and explain...

Anyway, to get back on-topic, I've never really made anything out of Obsidian, or mined it more than a little. It takes 15 seconds after all.

But I wouldn't mind a use for Obsidian besides a bomb shelter.

But the problem is that Diamond is the strongest material known to man, and therefore, your argument is invalid.
The second issue with your suggestion is that obsidian would be as common as the nearest lava source, which can be found more easily than diamond.

Also, there is a suggestion section somewhere on this forum...

Sorry mate your wrong on that one. carbon60 also known as buckyballs or carbon nanotubes are the strongest thing known to man. just a tinfoil layer of this is harder then 5 feet of steel much stronger then tungston or dimond

I thought buckyballs were different then carbon fiber nanotubes?
Buckyballs are supposed to be frictionless, right?

But naturally occurring elements, diamond is stronger than Tungsten and Obsidian. Unless you're not comparing the Mohs hardness, in which case diamonds are worse than tungsten. Although diamonds can cut through it.

Er, hi, I saw a very smaller version of this once. It was a lavafall (Is that a good word to call it?) and there was a single tree near it that was up and burning by the time I got to it. And the tip of the wood kept burning forever.

It's pretty cool to see what the game can generate.

Wrong. Tungsten is the strongest material known to man.

I just joined this forum, so bare with me, but are you certain?
Diamond's Mohs hardness is 10 even, Tungsten is 7.5.
So, how can Tungsten be the strongest material known to man if Diamond can cut it? In fact, Tungsten is barely above Quartz, on the Mohs scale and Diamond can cut through quartz easily.

Unless you're talking about Tungsten's ability to resist shattering, in which case, yes it trumps diamond, by about 90 times. Diamond shatters rather easily.
    I'm curious.

That said, I'm not entirely certain if I would want Obsidian tools. Especially seeing as how common it is.
