    Masthead

Thorns was started by Peytonisgreat, but now continued by me, Dack105, and you, if you want to contribute.

You can see the original thread here.

    Contributing to Thorns:

If you're a texture artist and you want to contribute, it's as simple as making a texture and posting it here; if I think it's up to snuff, I'll add it to the pack in the next download. All artists will be credited here. I'll add a list of textures that need to be done if that would be helpful.

    What needs to be done?

    Items and Entities.

All blocks are complete (I think).

    Licence:

I'm going to refer to the original licence on Thorns:

Textures can only be used after written permission is obtained from the creator of the pack (peyton for most stuff, me or whoever is credited for other textures). Adfly links on remixes are never acceptable, under any circumstances.

    My authorisation to use Thorns:

    Quote from Dack105»

Hi Peyton, you may remember me as the guy that was going to do a continuation of Thorns ... but then promptly got distracted and forgot about Minecraft for a couple of years. Well, I care again, and I still love texture artisting and Thorns. So if you're still not planning on doing anything with it I was thinking of starting a community driven continuation of the pack [ ... ].

Are you still open to that?

    Quote from peytonisgreat»

Sure man, go for it :D

I'm not sure how many of you would even remember this banner, but a couple years ago there were so many posts that could easily have been helped by the stickies, that I was prompted to make this off of someone's quote.

Look how many views it has:

    Guys. 415,000 views.

Hey, that 'someone' who you quoted was me!
    Good times.

    Good times . . .

Oh, thanks. I've been getting sidetracked by the multiple AdFocs and stuff. I'm dumb.

I'm having problems with downloading the pack. I can get the setup.exe but [what I assume is] the installer gets stuck half way through saying: error loading webpage. Am I missing the link to the .zip file or does it not exist? I'd much rather just get the .zip than install extraneous programs (like every other texture pack).

Hey Dack can I use you're pack to make a PVP pack? Proper credit will be given, and I will edit the textures so its no all stolen off of you,and post a link to the conversation.

What exactly are you doing? What textures are you adding/changing? I might be open to letting you do some edits (if they are sufficiently transformative), but I won't allow you to release any of my textures un-edited because you can just release your pack as an add-on to my pack (using the texture pack stacking in the newer version).

Please say you haven't abandoned this or stopped work on it! Its amazing. Really unique and original and looks fantastic.

My plan for the future development of this is to finish all the block and items, then keep it up to date with the current version. That's it.

I'm not going to be in active development because this is extremely dull to work on sometimes (there is very little in the way of creative freedom). I've moved on to other things as my main focus, but I do plan on getting this to a more complete state and keeping it up to date.

Good news! Will be interesting, as I only use the brush. I wish somehow to have a brush that change contrast or saturation according to a setting. If someone have a plugin under the hand, I'll be pleased to download it! :)

If you mean something like a dodge/burn tool with more functionality, then you can do exactly that by setting the brush's blending mode to overlay/lighten/darken/multiply. It'll take a while to learn how to get it to work like you want it to by setting the colours right, but it's a very powerful new feature. I'm not sure if contrast is possible tho . . .

I'm going to have to go with Stock32 by the marvelous Dack105. Not only is he talented, but also extremely good looking, but that's beside the point. His textures are considered a revelation to many texture artists here in the forums, and you would be doing yourself a disservice by not downloading them repetitively.

Legal Disclaimer - I am in no way affiliated with the creators of the transcendent texture-pack known as Stock32 in any way shape or form. This testimonial is entirely un-biased and represents the clear objective truth.

well, as long as the seamless helper plugin works xD Unless! they added an offset option, in which case seamless helper becomes obsolete.

I use the paneling plugin. It's pretty much the same thing, but it has more freedom (if I understand your plugin properly). It still works even without needing to update it :)

For all of you out there like me who think Paint.NET is the best tool for texturing, you'll be exited to see whats in the new alpha release of version 4.0.

The thing I'm sure everybody will be chuffed about is that now your paintbrush/eraser can have softness!

Look at that! I didn't even have to use a plugin or a blur! You can also apply your brush as a mask (set it to overlay or XOR or lighten or whatever). There's also a bunch of performance and UI improvements, so it even nicer to use. The dev also said that there will be custom brush support in a future version!
I thought some of you would like to get your hands on it early, so I fugues I'd post about it (the alpha is very stable, but always make sure you backup your stuff if your trying out on anything important :) )

This texturepack is really good but I have some feed back:
    1. I hate unfinished texturepacks. Especially when their as good as this.
    2. Sandstone looks like yellow bubbles.
    3. Bedrock looks like you tried to hard to make it HD. It turned out with me thinking it was dark concrete and crap mixed together.

I'm sorry If you find these comments offencive. And I don't really expect you to take all of them aboard. All in all a good resource pack. :D

    Thanks for the feedback!
Under no circumstances will I take constructive feedback badly, I'm always looking to improve :)
1: Sorry, I hope I get back into it at some point, but it's pretty slow going at the moment. If you want a full experience, I'd suggest installing either Lithos or Faithul and then this on top of it (using the new resource pack stacking feature). That should fill in some of the blanks I have, but I honestly don't see too much of an issue because the default textures mix in well with mine (obviously).
    2: Which is better?

The flatter one is the original that I 'improved'. I like the extra depth, but if you like, I can put the old one in the next download as an alternate texture.
3: I am aware that bedrock is ugly, but I'm trying to be faithful tot he original... so that's what you get :) I might try to fix it sometime, but it isn't a very visible block, so it's not high on m list.
