Thanks for the memories even though they weren't so great...that's a horrible reference. -

Spongebob is Nickelodeon, not Cartoon Network.
On topic: Woo-hoo, they have a square head... Do artists have to limit their styles just to avoid looking vaguely like something else? -

You guys are so cute. Act like the shows are made for older kids and adults. Adorable, really.
No it isn't you guys should just stop right now. Stop.
"Act like the shows are made for older kids"
This was a clip from the show "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack" A show that aired on CN in 2007.
This clip honestly looks like it would give little kids nightmares for weeks. -

Darkhax posted a message on Ores in EVERY kind of block! (Ores as Metadata) [Now with better Pictures/ screenshots!]I support the idea of having ores spawn in different block types such as the new stones added in the snapshot but honestly I don't think tile entities would be a good way to go about doing this. Tile entities use up system resources and believe it or not having a lot of chests in an area can make a user lag. This would be the same for ores added in the suggested way. Perhaps metadata would better fit the recommended situation similar to the wool, clay, glass, wood, stairs and slabs. One possible benefit of them being tile entities would be that they could mark data onto the ores to check if a player has placed that block or not (Fortune enchantment would use this). Another possible benefit would be that they could pull off an overlay sort of thing similar to how falling sand works. (Falling sand can be set to use any texture of existing blocks and is used by mods, bukkit and command blocks to make rather cool effects). This could be used to make different types of ores like Gravel Iron or Wood Plank Diamond. An issue with this would be the mining speed. The hardness of all blocks is handled in a way that would make setting the hardness of the block based on what block it looks like near impossible. Even then using the "simple block rendering interface" would be capable of doing that. The problem remains with the mining speed however.Posted in: Suggestions
The best option here would be to make ores use metadata for the different stone types so ores will have different appearances based on when/where they're spawning.
I support the idea but not the tile entity part of it -

Taiine posted a message on [1.4.7] Texturepack - EasycraftMyth:Making a simple bucket-fill pack is OK for your first texture pack.Posted in: Resource Packs
This is only partially false. Making a simple pack is a good way to familiarize yourself with how minecraft textures work and were they are place. However, unless it is amazing or you want feedback on how to make it better, don't bother posting it.
This will not only annoy everyone, you will also receive a large amount of borderline flame posts from the community. Simple bucket-fill packs have been done to death. When you make a pack it is best to try to do something that hasn't been done before. Either an idea that had been attempted but not well, or something completely revolutionary.
Myth:Making a simple pack is easy.
This is one of the most common misconceptions I run across. It also can't be more wrong. Making a good simple pack that will not get you laughed out of the community is probably one of the most difficult things to do. Examples like Doll House and Puffy lines are a paragon of what a simple pack SHOULD be. However, if you find yourself wanting to name your thread Simplepack. RUN AWAY!

WalksOnRocks posted a message on [NEED IDEAS] More Plants Mod. Got anything guys?Botanist here... there are so many options that can be modelled after real life, its a matter of what flavor/feel you want your mod to have. Are you interested in plants that make recipes or plants that make ambience/wood, or a little of both?Posted in: WIP Mods
Here's a brief list of things I wish deserts had:
Agave - tall (3-4 blocks) odd looking plant, heartwood used for tequila (modify for MC..?)
Mesquite - low shrubby tree with leaves that cause damage like cacti
Saguaro - cacti with wooden trunk and branches, branches with vertical cacti columns up to 4 blocks high
Cholla - like the "prickly pear found in Forgotten Nature mod, add damage
Prickly pear - sporadic ground cover as tall as short grass but causes cacti damage (like caltrops)
Peyote - tiny ball cactus, hard to spot in the wild because they are recessed into the ground, hallucinigenic
Joshua tree - like that found in Forgotten Nature, leaves cause damage, fruit possibly craftable?
Burro bush - ambience, 1 wood block set into the ground and 1 block of leaves, growing very sparsely
Boojum tree - bizarre, cool tree that grows as a spindly tall (6-10 blocks?) trunk with no branches and 0-2 leaves per height
Elephant tree - another bizzare, cool tree. short trees (1-3 block tall trunk that are equally wide) with thick trunks (2-3 blocks) and sparse leaves
Angels Trumpet - perennial wildflower that is unpredictably hallucinigenic (dangerous)
Wild Tobacco - common in North American deserts
Melons - vanilla melons should NEVER occur in cold biomes, there are wild natives in the American southwest deserts though. Pam's Melon spawn mod is great but needs tweaking
Palo verde - similar shape as small oaks but with green trunks, leaves cause damage
Palo blanca - tall white trunked tree similar to african acacia but found in American deserts
Organ pipe cactus - dense clusters of cylindrical cacti (1-2(3?) block high) that cause damage
A couple lessons from several months of camping in different southwestern deserts:
1. almost every plant can physically hurt you
2. wood is abundant, leaves are scarce
3. desert can be very diverse in number of species, sizes and shapes
Shall we talk about other biomes? poison oak, fruit trees (well done in 'Forgotten Nature' mod), mistletoe, poisonous mushrooms, logs on the ground in forest/jungles, plants that grow only on other plants (epiphytes), wierd underground fungi/trees, vines that behave like spider web and grow horizontally and vertically
you really got me started....
