As someone who lives where ponderosa pine is the dominant tree type, I agree that having small clusters of pines in a forest of near-standard trees is rather odd-looking. I don't know that having them biome-specific to say tundra would be much of an answer. If they can be tied to temperature, that might work, but coding them to form forests of themselves is good as well and probably better. Some things to consider for a future update. I also finally saw some of those savanna and bilboa trees. Nicely done. And for the record, even the shortest two races of ponderosa pines have a max height of 25-30 meters. The other four races have an average max height of 50 meters. Pine trees can indeed grow on rocky mountain faces, though yeah usually solitary or in a small group. I think the coolest ones are the most precariously located ones irl. Some more things to consider later if/when Notch gets around to getting the game to allow us to gen maps deeper than the current default of 128 blocks top-to-bottom, taken to be 1 meter on a side.

Bucyruss, that's great that it already does (or will do) a check on the height limit. I assume that seeming contradiction means that there's already a form of that "consider the height limit" code currently in v9.1 but you're working on a new form that does more? Unless I was using v9 and not v9.1 and thus missed new coding when I gen'd the map chunks in question, I noticed some pines that had their very tippy tops chopped off meaning not their trunks but their leaves. Does the code account for the leaf blocks that gen directly above the trunk log blocks or does it only consider the log blocks themselves in determining whether the tree has enough vertical room?

Thanks for the reply/explanation, looking forward to the next update and again, fantastic job on what you've got so far.

Vikman, I believe in this thread and I know elsewhere I've read that people are looking into being able to adjust how deep a map can be gen'd (beyond the standard 128 blocks top-to-bottom) but it's apparently a tough nut to crack. Notch himself is aware of the desire to allow adjustable map heights. I believe there are some servers that have custom-made maps that are deeper than the default 128, but they gen'd those maps using 3rd party mappers/editors.

Edit: Sunbird, you deleted the entire META-INF folder? See if deleting just the two MOJANG_C files in there and leaving the MANIFEST.MF file alone helps you. Also, did you install over a clean copy of the game or over a copy that had a previous version of this mod installed on it? Because of Notch's code obfuscation, some of the files in the mod end up with different names from one version to the next as it and the game get updated, so perhaps the files are conflicting with one another. Beyond that, I wouldn't know how to help. :/

I've been lurking the MC.net forums for a few weeks now, figured I'd make my first post thanking you for making this mod. It is fantastic what you've done so far. I'd also like to make a suggestion for future consideration: If you're going to be attempting super-tall trees (I was very delighted when I saw the pine trees for the first time, especially the 2x2 trunk ones) would it be possible to look into coding trees to regard the height limit as a ceiling on growth, thus preventing them from trying to grow taller than that limit? As it stands, they pretend like the limit isn't there, grow as usual and end up getting their top half hacked clean off. In underground tree farming, one method is to have the volume have 6 vertical blocks of clearance (trees need minimum of 4 blocks vertical) and the 7th block directly above be the ceiling level. This prevents trees from growing any taller than 5 logs tall plus the very top 6th block being a leaf block (this setup ensures all logs are reachable from the ground). The height limit ought to be regarded in the same way. This would prevent trees from growing and getting their top halves cut off, thus marring the landscape.

Thank you again for this mod, and good luck with your to-do/maybe-future-features list. :smile.gif:
