It's an interesting idea, but would require trust. Which very little people are willing to give when the game's majority consist of 12 year olds. Also some people are so willing to abuse such a power it makes it difficult if such a list should even exist. Overall, it just hard to have something like that because everyone would have to be honest with it. Such as the MCAdmin with Doridian.
I was going to do something similar, but on a smaller scale. Basically it would start with a few communities (including my own) to host an open blacklist. All of them can submit the banned users, and if there was a reason for it. Then the server owners can decide to add them or not.
How many players can play on the server without lag. ($5/mo, $10/mo, $22/mo, $29/mo)
The minecraft world can grow to a huge size, not to mention your going to need at least a few gb of ram to handle all the players. I would recommend having 75gb of memory if your doing a small map (Consisting of 5 or less players) and one gb of ram to accompany it. So you be looking at the $10 a month for a minimal players.
Is running a linux server the same as running a windows server [Setup wise].
I'm not sure what makes linux so special. I'm currently running windows 7 with a moderate computer set up and it works like a charm. I bet there is an advantage to having a linux, but I'm happy with what I got.
Do you know of a guide that could help me setup my server on the vps?
Nope.
I do not know how you do it SpiegalPwns, but your mod is the best one out there. I've tried other wrappers, but your is all that I need and does an excellent job at doing it. Keep up the work!
While it is possible for this to happen. I can't believe this really happened on the count of you can place those blocks in that order. Just call me paranoid.

Reason for joining: I never like building a city by myself. Mainly because I'm uncreative and like to see what other people do and incorporate into my own style. I like building huge and small projects depending on my mood. I've never been on a regular on SMP because I planned on making my own server. However, right now it is impossible to host a server and I lack the funds to do so. So to make up for it and do something productive for the next two months is to start on a fresh new server and see it get built up. Block by Block. I'm active at night and do have a steam account if you wish to contact me. Of course I also check the minecraft forums regularly. I never really greifed anything before nor do I plan to do it any time soon. I hope we can play together soon.
It's quite amusing that in a Voxel game where you can carry multiple tons of material, craft items out of bare sticks and stones, mine through the earth single-handedly, teleport into a different dimension and where gravity only affects sand and gravel - the most unnatural thing in your opinion is that the terrain generates in a patchy way.
It's not that I don't realize that the game itself is unnatural. It's that the ****ing terrian looks so blotchy and ****ing stupid I can't suffer through the eye rape to get to the enjoyable part.
Eye rape? The game is supposed to be a bit blocky, and the biomes have yet to be fully completed.
Things take time my impatient friend. As funny it is to create a new account solely to complain to a forum that Notch has no interest in reading. The biomes just need some work is all.

Also, don't grow too attached to your saves. You never know when Notch might break them or include a new block that require you to restart.

Some of those blocks are not usable items. However all the entities in the game are in that picture.
