    I'm in Bedrock/Windows 10--doesn't that version use PE numbers?

    [edit]

    I added the missing colon and same error with the short command. The issue is early on and I'm not sure what I am typing in wrong here.

    posted a message on Need help with /give syntax

    I'm playing around with the /give command on Bedrock Edition and I don't seem to have too much trouble giving myself some simple things. However, the moment I try to add enchantments I keep on getting the same error: "Line 1, Column 2 Missing '}' or object member name"

    I can try to add a stack of enchantments or just a single one and I get the same problem and it doesn't matter if I use the chat window or a command block.

    I've tried these as a couple of examples:
    /give @p diamond_sword 1 0 {ench:[{id:11,lvl:5},{id:13,lvl:2},{id:12,lvl:2},{id:14,lvl:3},{id:26,lvl:1},{id:9,lvl:5},{id:10,lvl:5},{id:17,lvl:3}]}

    /give @p diamond_sword 1 0 {ench:[{id:11,lvl5}]}

    Both give me the same error so it is obvious I'm missing something important here. Likely it's something small and easily missed or forgotten. lol

    OK, this may be a stupid question but do you claim your gift in-game or do you have do get it via the Microsoft Store--where the link in the news article takes you and seems to suggest?

    I love the speed of the Win10 MC over the Java edition--it's like the difference between BASIC and ML on the old computers--but I am a little frustrated with the lack of some of the blocks so far. I know that it's beta and that more is coming out, but that doesn't eliminate my impatience while waiting for key blocks and mechanics to be added to the game. I wonder when we will see an update?

    I haven't tried it yet, but I have an old Saitek P990 controller. It has software that will allow me to maps keys to buttons. If your controller has similar software, perhaps it may allow you to get around that issue?

    I am 45 and feel like I'm still just scraping the surface of the game. The kids are OK and sometimes I do get some good advice on how to do things from them. Other times, I roll my eyes when their age shows in their behavior. Perhaps some adult-only servers would be fun so we don't have to self-censor ourselves quite as much when we are talking.

    posted a message on Nicer End Portal Room

    @ Jaizee Perhaps, but I liked the look. If someone else re-creates this for their world whey could put whatever they wanted there. This tower is a fun building project that spans from the bottom to the top of the world. It has been somewhat neglected while I have been playing on a Survivor-No Cheats save.

    I simply switched off fullscreen and used the ALT+[Print Screen] key combo. I then pasted into paint. No extra software was needed. :Notch:

    posted a message on Nicer End Portal Room

    After seeing the LEGO Minecraft Kit with the Ender Dragon, I found the End Portal in a creative mode save I was working on to actually go check out The End. Since I thought the original room was a bit blah and too far away, I decided to make a new one deep under a tower I was building and made a few aesthetic changes. I found a good picture of the room on the Minecraft Wiki and after printing it out, I used it and the actual room as a guide. I would recreate the layout but I would make a few changes that would make the room really pop. I started with a chamber that was larger than the actual portal room since I had a plan that would push it over the top. The larger room was made with bedrock so the only access would be through the bottom underground level of the tower--the floor sat directly above the void so I used bedrock there as well.

    I then proceeded to make the room using obsidian since I was going with a black and red theme for the whole tower. I kept the iron bars at the entrance and for the "windows" that existed in the original. For the ceiling, I used red stained glass. The lava pools from the original room were filled and I was ready for phase 2.

    I had a temporary passage made into the larger chamber and I used ladders to make a simple airlock. Entering the larger room, I proceeded to fill it with lava using the lava bucket on every block I could hit in that larger room. When the larger room was completely filled with lava, I sealed off the temporary passage and checked my work.

    The room needed a bit more so I added some additional decoration. I used red carpet to cover the bedrock floor and placed red banners on the wall. (I recently discovered that I could do patterns with the banners so the ones in the pictures are getting redone.) I added two armor stands and the item frames above the door for additional decoration.

    Leading into the room I had a passage-within-a-passage where I used alternating bands of obsidian and red stained glass for a striking and brightly-lit passage to the portal room. Again, the outer passage was lined with bedrock to make the tower the only access point to the room. Once the outer passage was filled with lava, I was really happy with the results.

    This was a relatively simple tweak to the original room and I think that this is a good example on how a few simple changes can make a huge impact on a design.

    posted a message on Mods for Dummies?

    I know this is likely buried deep in the forums but perhaps there should be a sticky thread for noobs or those of us who have been messing around with vanilla MC for a while.

    I have been playing around with vanilla Minecraft for a while now and I decided to finally play around with playing with some of the different MC mods. The problem is that there are several loaders out there and countless mods to play with. I think it would be nice if the more experienced players would be kind enough to offer advice on the best ways to delve into changing your MC experience.

    For instance, I'm trying out the Technic launcher--installing it right now--but I know the original launcher supports mods--which is the "better" way to go?

    I essentially looking for a good launchpad to allow me to understand how to enjoy some of the cool and strange mods without getting too frustrated and saying "fudge it" to modding my game. I am sure that this could also be helpful to many others as well.

    Thank you guys ahead of time for any help you can offer.

    posted a message on 32 or 64 bit Java?
    You don't need to use the 64-bit IE do download Java 64-bit. If you click on "All Java Downloads" or "See All Java Downloads" you can manually install either or both versions of Java. As stated before, you need 32-bit Java for most web browsing but 64-bit is nicer for a lot of Java tools. I end up installing the JDK for 64-bit since I like to tinker with writing Java programs. I was taught in my computer class that writing something with the 64-bit JDK doesn't keep it from running under 32-bit so it is simply convenient to just use the 64-bit JDK.

    It would be nice if Minecraft could detect if both versions are available and use 64-bit by default or have a setting in the launcher for a user to determine which one to use--this could be good for checking the behavior under both versions.

    Is there a way to determine which version of Java that Minecraft is using when you have both installed?

    posted a message on Modding for Dummies?
    I mentioned this in a earlier post, but would it be possible to sticky some sort of beginner's guide to modding Minecraft? I am sure you guys get a lot of questions on how to do it. Perhaps a basic beginner's guide with links to what you need and some basic examples would help. I don't expect anything exhaustive, just a good starting point that you can point people to when they keep asking the same questions over and over again.

    As for me, I know some Java after taking two terms of a CS class where I learned the language. As to what I would do in this game, I'm not sure yet. However given time, I may try to hammer some stuff out. Some examples showing some of the things that people do may inspire me. In my class we were working with the BlueJ book and IDE, but I do have Eclipse installed. I do like BlueJ's ability to test small section of code and how it marks out sections of code. However, as popular as Eclipse is, I should try to start working with it.

    You guys need to sticky a beginner modding post with some of these important links and info. I never heard of Forge before this post. Luckily, I do have Eclipse installed. But it probably need an update. :Notch: It may help to answer some of these questions you guys get asked all of the time. I need to brush some rust off my Java skills and start learning Eclipse. When I took two terms of CS classes, we were using the BlueJ IDE and book.
