May 16, 2011That tree mod actually is incredibly awesome. More trees available to use as well as the option to grow vines that you can climb, and place the 'leaves' of trees wherever you want, except that when placed you are able to walk through them, and they don't despawn. I might have to try over using this...Posted in: Survival Mode
May 16, 2011Ouch, that's unfortunate to hear about the forest fires or random lava pits that burned down people's trees. Also, I had no idea there was lightning in this game, and that it could set a tree on fire. Yikes D:Posted in: Survival Mode
One thing I'm going to make sure I start doing, and that I recommend everybody else do, is to create a backup copy of your save file each time you finish playing.
May 14, 2011Haha, sorry that I haven't been able to respond quickly enough, guys! I didn't expect this to become such a popular idea. Between real life and making my own tree, I haven't had the time to respond to all the posts in here =)Posted in: Survival Mode
If the leaves connect to your tree, feel free to walk over them!
Also, I love the idea of using fences as natural windows.
May 13, 2011Posted in: Survival ModeQuote from Icalasari »Question:
Say you make a massive room in the tree for a farm. According to the rules, you can't get into that farm without wood paths everywhere. But yet I see farms that (although smaller) take one more than one block away
So is it allowed provided that the material is encased in a wood room/has wood under it?
One idea for this, is to make the floor out of wood entirely. Then, add a dirt block to the spot you wish to plant the tree, thus having it on an elevated platform. Spread those evenly apart from one another, and you have a tree farm!
But if you make an enclosed area of wood, I figure you could do what ever you want inside of it :tongue.gif:
May 13, 2011Haha, I was thinking it might be sort of a fun multiplayer game as well. World trees sprouting up all over and competing with each other. Would work especially well if each player had a different style of tree, able to mark their boundaries with those.Posted in: Survival Mode
May 13, 2011Awesome, I look forward to seeing that, Sweet Ride :biggrin.gif:Posted in: Survival Mode
Here's the progress on my tree.
I made a huge staircase in the center to get from the top to the bottom. Currently it goes all the way up to the sky, and the second floor is missing walls. The way down doesn't go too far yet. This used to be a side-entrance to my tree, but now I've turned it into the main entrance, as it looks fairly epic :tongue.gif:
May 11, 2011Oh dear. Lava can be quite hazardous to your tree indeed =O That's something I'll keep in mind for the future haha.Posted in: Survival Mode
You can use dirt to plant around to grow saplings and such, yes :tongue.gif: As long as it's accessible by a wooden block!
May 11, 2011You can make a trail of one wood block to follow if you like, yes. If you wanted to dig a larger surface area you'd probably need more than one block though :tongue.gif:Posted in: Survival Mode
Only using naturally occuring resources is an interesting idea. I'm curious what sort of impact it could have on play! It'd be hard to get that first furnace up with which to make charcoal =O But if you had the wool to make a bed so you could skip over nights, it might be easier.
May 10, 2011Hehe :tongue.gif: I look forward to seeing how it develops. Mine was smaller when it started, but slowly I expanded it further and further outward, then hollowed out the inside. Right now it's not too ideal for growing more saplings, which I really need to fix. And yes, it's also not very natural looking, I really want to give it more shape and form when I've the time to resume.Posted in: Survival Mode
May 10, 2011Oh wow, you've gotten a lot luckier than I have, Duffanon :tongue.gif: Barely any critters come around my tree. The one pig I was able to kill didn't drop any porkchops, and two sheep wandered by but only one was in range for me to gather its wool, and it only had one. So I've been having to live night to night!Posted in: Survival Mode
Here's a shot of the first floor, just entering the door.
This is a shot of the second floor, accessible through a ladder above the workbench.
Here's a shot from outside the tree.
I've tried multiple root patterns, putting dirt on the roof at some points in order to grow trees up there in addition to around the tree. I'm still debating what I want to make it look like, whether to make multiple planters along the length of the tree and whatnot. I'm also thinking of expanding the roots out some more, but I'm not sure yet. Still, I'd like to see it take more shape than it has so far.
May 10, 2011I'm glad to hear that people are interested in trying this challenge! I'm trying it myself as well. Having lost motivation to continue several times before, I'm feeling encouraged to take it up again.Posted in: Survival Mode
I shall post pictures before too long, as well. It shall be interesting to compare the various trees.
May 10, 2011You don't have to fill the entire interior of the tree, no. The interior is allowed to be hollow for the sake of you moving around.Posted in: Survival Mode
Let's say that you want to dig straight ahead of you. You're going to dig two squares, one at your foot level and one at your head level, in order to continue stepping forward. To advance, you need to dig out the squares around you to be sure that you're always walking within the 'root' of the tree.
