I REALLY long for the old days of NNTP. If you youngsters don't know what NNTP is, Google it. Back in those days all the forums were crazy busy and your specific interests were all centralized in one place. It was the golden age of the Internet. Sadly the World Wide Web killed it. And today, most people think that "The Web" IS the Internet. So sad. "The Web" is (or was) just a small piece of the Internet as a whole. Back then, the workload of running the newsgroups (forums) was shared among all the servers, and nobody had to pay anything to keep them running. Then along came the WWW, and browsers, and everything became fragmented and hard to find. It was a black day for the Internet, and this is a black day for the Minecraft community.

The name may have been used by another user who then changed their name, which holds the name in a pool of reserved names. You can get in touch with Twitch support via help.twitch.tv if you have any questions about how you can access your desired name. That said, your Twitch name will not impact your Minecraft Forum name, you'll remain "Cryptopian" on this forum regardless of your Twitch name.
Good. Thank you. I may have created a twitch account a long time ago and forgotten about it. Oh well, as long as I remain Cryptopian here, that's fine. I'll create a twitch under a different name. -

I tried to create a new Twitch account but it tells me my username "Cryptopian" is not available. So I thought maybe I already have an account set up, but when I tried to use that account name it's not recognized. So does this mean I can't be Cryptopian in Twitch? And if not, why not?
Now I'm just debating whether it's worth the bother. I can still read the forum without an account, and I never have much of interest to post anyway. So I guess I'll just go into spectator mode.

Just a little ways west is an abandoned mine shaft.
East is jungle.
South is mesa.
Northeast is an ocean monument, not too far away.
Southeast is a mushroom island, quite a ways away, though. Past the mesa.
Ice is really far away to the southwest.
All other biomes are pretty close. A good variety nearby.

A very nice seed all the way around!

Here's another nice cluster of islands.Seed: 11213

Oooo! That's a nice world. I explored it a little in creative, but I might try it in survival. There's a nice collection of little islands that could be turned into a whole network of bases and factories.
Thanks for sharing it.

I have built a number of villager breeding facilities, and the one thing I've always noticed is that when the villagers are NOT breeding, they are NOT planting or harvesting. I'm not sure what the actual game logic is, but it's been my experience that they only seem to harvest and plant if they are also breeding new baby villagers. Otherwise, they just don't seem interested in feeding each other.

All in pure survival:
First shot is taken from the top of the tallest building, so you can't see it in the picture. In the distance is the amusement park with roller coaster, bouncy house, and other assorted rides and attractions. Also out of sight beneath where I'm standing is a HUGE wheat farm. On the left is a village where villagers roam free. Behind the livestock barn is a villager trading post and iron golem farm. The living quarters are all under ground.
Second shot is a deep ocean outpost. The ladder tower on the left goes all the way down to bedrock. It includes a villager breeder, trading post, and iron golem farm all stacked one an top of the other, with a tree farm on the roof.

Once I "tamed" a ravine by putting a cobblestone floor over the top of it. Then I dug down 5 blocks along the edge and put another floor at that level. I lit up each floor as I went, and by the time I got to the bottom, with well lit floors at every fifth block, I had a nice big underground bunker for a massive warehouse, or whatever other uses I might have for loads of safe, mob-proof rooms.

Newest is best. I can't think of anything in 1.12 that I'd want to give up for the sake of playing an older version.
But then, some people get a kick out of driving antique cars, so there you go.

I love diorite. But then again, I use the Soartex Fanver texture pack. I pretty much hate all the textures in the default pack.

Found this clicking random on Mine Atlas.
Most distant biomes are:
Roofed Forest, about 1200 blocks away;
Swamp, about 1300 blocks away;
Mushroom island, about 1500 blocks away;
Jungle and Ice both about 2000 blocks away in opposite directions.
Other than that, everything else is very close.
But wait. There's more:
Spawn in on plains biome.
Pigs and sheep visible from spawn point.
Cows and chickens 100 blocks or so North.
Abandoned mine practically right under spawn point.
Several nice caves with iron and coal that are open to the surface to jump start iron tool production.
A couple villages, one in the desert almost visible from the spawn point.
If you build a portal near the spawn point you will enter the nether between two nether fortresses; one about 300 block east, and the other about 300 blocks west.
I've looked around a bit in creative, but I haven't tried playing it in survival yet,but it looks like a pretty nice world.

Birch is my favorite tree to grow because it always grows straight and can be packed close together in a tree farm.
Acacia is my least favorite tree to grow because of the way it spreads out.
Once harvested, I prefer birch and dark oak.

A quick update---
I built a nether portal and ended up on a shelf of soul sand, high above the surrounding territory, but as I stepped through I saw a fortress, just below, and a little ways off. It looks like there might be a blaze spawner within easy reach of the portal.
Also, while I was down below mining I had sheep, pigs, cows and chickens spawn, so I'm all set for livestock. The only "cheat" I've done so far is to visit another island to gather a few pieces of sugar cane. There wasn't any on the island, and I'm going to need it for the potion to cure zombie villagers eventually.

Ah, that explains it! Thanks.
It's turning out to be a really nice island. At first there were no animals at all, but while I was down setting up my deep branch mine one cow and three sheep spawned in. Later, another cow spawned, and a single chicken. However, while I was mining some wolves spawned in and killed all but one of my sheep, since I hadn't fenced them in yet.
I've flattened the top of the mountain and built a sea wall. I'm going to build a castle on the top flat area.

I found it by generating random worlds in creative mode in 1.12 this morning (June 7, 2017)
This island does NOT look like the mineatlas map. The map shows several islands close together, but in the 1.12 world I just created, there is only the one island that you spawn on. It's a pretty lonely island, with not much around it at all. The mineatlas map shows a couple of nearby ocean monuments, but in the live 1.12 map there aren't any ocean monuments there.
The seed is: 791039883381620
The screenshot is from above in creative.
I've just re-created it in survival mode to start playing it. If I discover anything else really cool about it, I'll post it in this thread.

I just drop my guardians 33 blocks to kill them.

Spawn on the edge of a plain where it meets both desert and forest. A few steps north is a cave entrance with a dungeon with zombie spawner. The cave has lots of visible coal and iron ore.
Just to the north of that is a desert village.
There are loads of sheep so you can make a bed first day.
A few steps to the west is a savanna biome.
Several ocean monuments not too far away, and lots of sand in the deserts for draining them.
There are several surface lava pools nearby if you want to use the mold pouring method of building a portal. Once through the portal there is a big cluster of glowstone within reach, and a nether fortress a couple hundred blocks north-west.
