    Oh hey! Good to see you around. I've been trying to avoid mods in this map so it plays right out of the box and doesn't obsolesce with official updates. But I would have no objections to someone taking the map and customizing it with such mods as a parallel version. If that kind of undertaking appeals to you, or anyone else, holler at me in discord. :)
    Also PSA assuming anyone follows this thread, I'm taking a break from the map until after Xmas break, but it's already come a long way in the past 6 months. Some of the other collaborators have also had things come up, work, school, real-life stuff etc., so we'll regroup, resume and hopefully complete the map sometime in the first half of 2019.

    Per-player stats allow each class to start with a perk in addition to their starting gift.

    I experimented with whips in the previous build but they end up very funky and don't take durability damage when attacking. If we were to add an expert on fully custom items with resource packs, I'd revisit this idea.


    As for the rest, yes. NPCs, actual bosses (our "Dracula" has a 3-phase fight that's pretty spiffy), a ton of mob variants with custom drops so far. All new puzzles, a massive and intricate new region, quest system, skill points and starting stats which differentiate the playable characters further.

    PSA: Criswelvania, the original metroidvania/soulslike for Minecraft is currently receiving a full 1.13 rework.
    Most of the massive push this team had put into the previous intended release is still functional or reclaimable, although there have been several setbacks and complications since 1.9.
    However we have continued to maintain this world which is now over 8 years old, and to develop many new adventures and surprises that we hope will see the light of day soon, having awaited a period of relative stability in the development of the Java-based Minecraft engine itself, due to the complexity of the map and the limitations of my own technical skill and time availability.

    Just a little sample of something I've been working on to help me with the review process, an accurate map of the playable areas. At some point I hope to include these collected in a 100% walkthrough guide, including all the new additions. You can easily see the breadcrumb paths and points of interest.


    The full collection will contain massive spoilers, so it will be a separate download to complement the release of the new version. No timetable on that yet btw, besides "Soon™".

    If anyone wants to help finish the map, drop me or Spooky a pm.
    We currently need someone to assist with recreating the mob menagerie and many special items with updated nbt tags from their listed specifications, converted to a summon/give command and or spawners. Qualified applicant knows what I'm talking about and how to format the code correctly, including mobs with full equipment and special attributes. I know there are code generation tools and those are fine as a starting point (if 1.10 compliant), but you must be able to understand and edit the tags by hand as well. It's time consuming and there are a lot of them, but between more people it can go much faster. Please apply only if you have time to commit.

    Golbolco, yes, this is an issue which is resolved if it is the one I am thinking of. Had to do with the villager merchants with some deprecated tag format somewhere in the nbt which prevented any chunk they were on from updating in the world files, only RAM. Weird bug, but we got it! You can confirm if there was always a villager somewhere sharing the chunk with the chests in question, other block updates would not save either.

    Getting back to it over the past couple weeks. There were some headaches, both in-game and IRL that had to be sorted. Still plugging away! Mostly dealing with technical matters, 99.9% of the building is done!

    While I've been waiting for my PC repairs, I've been playing Minecraft VR on the GearVR headset. It's fantastic, exploring a Nether Fortress is simply amazing, already looking into adapting a version of Criswelvania to play. After we finish this one!

    If you have a Samsung Galaxy S6/7, you can be playing Minecraft VR for under $150 (headset, controller, game). It's a no-brainer and a great entry into VR, which is no longer the future, it's here! Criswell Approved!!


    e: BTW, workstation is fixed! Resuming final stages of map preparation!

    We hit an important development milestone today, in that all critical work that could be done in Minecraft v1.8.9 has been completed. I have switched over to today's snapshot build to continue adding in the 1.9 content and fixing any bugs occurring between versions. From the preliminary testing I did today, there are not many issues of that nature.


    Minecraft 1.9 is coming soon and Criswelvania is ahead of the curve again at last (something I haven't achieved since MC 1.2.5!), aiming to be one of the first adventure maps you'll want to play to take advantage of the new content from this long-awaited update to the core game.
