Frankly I was impressed with the speed that 1.9 pre-release came out.

They most likely had the content of 1.9 ready, they just wanted to work out the kinks.

    Quote from Labrasones

Just gonna butt in here and say. Does minecraft have any point anyway? Think about it. The only reason you play the game is to build. To build you must explore to find the materials. If you want to build a nether brick house, you gotta go to the nether. There is as much reason to explore the nether as there is to explore the overworld. Sure items have no point, and some that have point are hard to get. But my hypothesis is that those items you are talking about will be pointless, for crafting. However, trading with NPCs will bring purpose for these. Possibly these blaze rewards will be trad-able for diamonds. And as everyone else has said, This is beta still. Have faith in Mojang.

Some of us want something more than a simple building toy. Personally, I like having more industry, like features in BuildCraft.

    ---

Regardless, I agree with the OP.

And on how "Notch doesn't finish things", hasn't he left almost every prior project to work on something new because he said, and I quote, "I get bored"(I'm pretty sure this came up in the interview with 2 Player Productions). He's already given up on MC to work on Scrolls (IIRC, he did say this during the same interview with 2 Player Productions), I'm pretty sure that's why the majority of the work on MC is done by Jeb as of late.

Alpha is to add content, Beta is to fix bugs, then release when everything is sunshine and rainbows. Yet Mojang keeps adding content during the "Beta" without tying up the loose ends that are already there.

They're cutting it close, adding half-finished content 2 months from the "release" (Given Mojang's record of implementing features). Now, if they would complete a feature before adding a new one, then yes, it would make sense.

If it wasn't for the modding community, I would have stopped playing MC shortly after the Halloween update (Given how disappointing that turned out).

EDIT: I decided to find the interview, but it turns out what I've quoted wasn't from that interview. I'm trying to find the interview that talks about his prior projects (I know he did games with King, but I recall he worked with a team on a wilderness survival game that had a weird name) and where he says he is bored of MC and only wants to work on Scrolls.

EDIT2: I have no idea where that interview I saw was, I may be entirely mistaken, but what I have found is that he is one of the people who founded Wurm Online, an MMO, but he left it.

posted a message on Why does everyone not like the 1.8 update?
The issues I have are little to do with the updates themselves, but with Mojang.

Progress on the game is slow for what little features that get added. And for a few updates now, the features were mods in the first place (pistons, better lighting, and better biomes, to name a few off the top of my head).

Only thing I would like from Mojang is for them to give the modders more support.

posted a message on How much computer memory does a survival server use?
    Quote from penguino6971

Hi,I'm thinking of starting a new server. How much computer memory does a server use up and is it worth it? Thanks.

It varies, depending on how many people would be playing, and what else the computer would be doing.

If it's your own PC that you'll be running the server, client, and misc. programs on, I'd say roughly 8gb of RAM just for a small group (about 5 players) for it to be stable and not lag up too much.

If it's a separate PC you own, just running the server, you'd might be able to make do with just 4gb of RAM, though 8gb would be preferable, tbh.

If you want to host a server with more than 10-15 players at once, you may want to check into renting a server.

But if it's just you and a few other people, you can do it with a home PC if it's strong enough.

Don't worry about people saying it's in the wrong board, a moderator will move it if people whine about it enough *smug face*

What I usually do when I use a sword is:

Zombies: Move in, attack, back up if needed, repeat till dead

Skeletons: Strafe, attack, repeat till dead, but do not stop moving

Spiders: Let it approach, Attack, move away, repeat till dead

Creepers: Move in, attack, back up really far and wait for it to stop flashing, repeat till dead

    ---

Groups of mixed monsters (as in several of each chasing you) is where it can get hard, I usually run if there's a large amount and I don't have a bow or arrows since it can be a bit too much to handle as a slight mistake can get you killed. (unless the whole point of me fighting them is to fight them, hehe.)

If you have a bow and a good number of arrows, then you have to find your priority targets, IMO it's usually creepers if they're close and then skeletons, spiders and zombies I'd finish off with a sword.

But if you can get the skeletons to fire on the other monsters, it can make it a bit easier.

If your computer is older, then you probably have DDR2 RAM already in there. You most likely bought DDR3 RAM which isnt compatible.

If that was the case, the DDR3 wouldn't fit in the DDR2 slot. The notches on the contacts are in different positions.

By totally derps, you mean the computer starts beeping when you start it?

If that's the case, I have to ask, did you check if the new RAM is compatible with your motherboard?

If you did check, the RAM itself may have not been seated (inserted into the RAM slot) all the way, or your motherboard may not support that amount of memory.

Another thing you can try, is when you remove one of the original sticks, insert the new RAM into a different color slot. ( This may be your solution, since it sort of worked for you before.)

My understanding of the 4gb with 32bit issue is the OS just ignores the extra RAM, though I could be wrong as I haven't experienced it myself.

There's probably a few more things that can be done, but I can't think of anymore off the top of my head

Worst case, the new RAM could be bad, but can't say for sure yet.

(Copied and pasted from your other thread, since it's gone quiet, not sure if you saw it.)

Buy one of those hard drives that connect to the computer for like $50 or $100.

    Different thing entirely.

This has been suggested so many times, it's a feature I really want.

But, it always gets shot down by people saying "Just add horses".

    more stuff to render.

So, because some people have trouble rendering grass (pfft) then no one can have grass?

I highly doubt the grass is what is making your system lag, it can be a number of things. First thing that comes to mind is a forest fire, but it can also be your computer itself needs a tune-up (defrag, anti-spyware, checking RAM, update drivers, etc.) since you seem to be able to run it smoothly at one point in time.

It may also be a bug in MC.

But if it really is the grass, then no, just because some people have trouble with it doesn't mean everyone can't have grass.

    In other words...

Ether way, just try like crazy until you find the right recipe.

But, of course, there are those that would rather cry and moan for hours on end for someone to tell them how to do it, instead of figuring it out themselves.
