Minecraft at its base form isn't meant to be an ultra hardcore survival experience. It's meant to be open and inviting to casual players too. Adding all these difficulty increases and additional complexity would alienate the younger playerbase, the casual playerbase, and even some of the more hardcore players if there's no options to disable the additions.

There's a reason that mods are one of Minecraft's biggest strengths. They give you options, without forcing potentially unwanted features in your face.

Iron is definitely your next step. It's easier to find in caves than in hand-dug mines, so make a ton of torches and go spelunking. You may also find some dungeons with fancy loot that'll help you on the way to other things.

If you're low on coal, you can smelt logs in the furnace to get charcoal to make torches.

I think the problem here is that you're speaking from the mindset of a more hardcore player that grinds and uses mega-farms, while this update targets the majority who are more casual.

The dark green bed definitely doesn't reflect the wool color very well, it stood out the most to me anyway, because the other colors are quite similar to their wools.

Very nice! I like how you've done the small tiles and the dirt-underneath variant. You could almost make an ancient Roman-style building with that, something that shows aging and decay.

I saw a few people complaining in the comments about the first snapshot that the new textures didn't allow for detailed shading for leg textures. From the looks of things, all four legs have their own texture space now.

Sounds like a plan to me. Can't wait to see your work!

EDIT: If anyone's interested, I've begun working on a little OpenBlocks support. It doesn't look like anyone has worked on any large-scale support for it yet.

So far the biggest thing I have is this Luggage texture, based off of Minidoku's chest:

I've also started some concepts for the hang glider and tombstone, but nothing solid yet.

We're always looking for contributors! There's no ceremony or anything, just do what you do and post it here.

Do you mean to say you're doing textures for Chisel 2? If so, that mod's been needing support for a long time.

Yeah, been working on and off on it, recently got my computer upgraded (yay, no more blue screening).
Send over anything you want, I'll see if I can get a wip pack together soonish.

Here's everything I've done so far, minus the tools I worked on before I started using your stuff. All packed nice and neatly for ingame testing.
I did roughly half the GUIs (a couple aren't complete), most of the basic Smeltery blocks, and a couple other things. A few things in there are just crap WIPs that I never went back to.

Though the Alumite ingot is something more recent. I was tinkering (ha!) with the idea of putting some sort of unique logo on all the Tinkers' ingots, to make them easier to identify when you're using a few different mods that all add the same ores, like Mekanism and Galacticraft.

    ----------------------

Unrelated, I'm absolutely astounded at how much has been added to Minecraft since I last actively played. All this terracotta and concrete business is pretty damn nice.

Minecraft 1.8 happened. I don't fully understand why, since I haven't written any mods myself, but I've gotten the impression something fundamental changed in that version that made it a huge hassle for modders to update from 1.7.10 to 1.8 and beyond.

Sigh. What ever happened to that modding API, Jeb? Could really use it right about now, huh?
