So.... has anyone here fallen into the trap of using the new launcher? I can't use my old profile (MC1.7.10 with Forge and mods - like AdventureCraft mod)

Has anyone managed to get around this problem?

    optical illusions are fun :)

    Sorry? You've lost me.

If you are trying to make a joke, please don't. I am being genuine in my desire for such a block. I'd appreciate if you didn't mock my efforts to try to get a very useful block created. Now Greg_Ewing is going to ignore me cos he'll think it's just a joke. :(

There is a flaw to that design, being there is no center rod for the staircase. If you look closely, that is not a spiral staircase. That, and you wouldn't be able to walk up it, you would hit your head.

Huh? I use this shaped block for spiral staircases all the time. You don't hit your head at all. And you don't need a centre rod. You aren't going to fall off. (actually, the XtraBlocks one does have a centre rod)

Question, could you perhaps add slab-slopes and a connection part for them?

    YES PLEASE!!!!!!
These two blocks I have wanted for ages!!! Much needed for spiral staircases, these two blocks would be of enormous value to any serious medieval castle builder.
I have tried to get some other mod-makers to implement this, but few people can do your "non-cube" shapes. (I mean the vast majority of models are still made from cube/rectangular pieces) XtraBlocks by MindKrafter has a quirky make-do workaround for the above block on the right (okay, it was my model that he put in his mod), but not nearly as elegant as I know you could make it.
Seriously - how much money do you want to make these available in architecturecraft for 1.7.10?

    WOOHOO!!!!

Yes, Optifine's connected textures was the culprit.

Thanks for that - you saved me a whole lot of angst.

May all your mines be filled with diamonds, and may creepers never darken your door.

posted a message on Sandstone texture defaulting to original, except for top row

I changed my sandstone texture a long time ago. Loong time ago. I am playing 1.7.10 with forge 10.13.2.1291

    (I also have a profile for forge 10.13.4.1481-1.7.10) I don't recall why.

    Anyhow....

I haven't played Minecraft for a few months, but recently went back to it, and discovered a weird funky thing:

All my walls of sandstone have reverted back to the original texture, except for the top row, which is my custom texture.

If I destroy a sandstone block, the sandstone block below it becomes the default texture. ie if a sandstone block is on the top, it is the custom texture, and if it has another sandstone on top, it is the default texture. They are not affected by any other block, and this weirdness does not occur on blocks other than sandstone.

Questions arise: 1. Where is is getting this old texture from? 2. Why did this happen? 3. How can I fix it? and 3a. How can I exploit this? (ie now that I know this can happen, I might decide it is a feature, rather than a bug, and use it to my advantage.)

I do not like the original default texture, which is why I changed it. Anyone know how to fix it?

First off great mod and thanks for back porting to 1.7.10.

I have a request as I don't think I am able to already do what I want. I use the arches to make arched corridors but if you want to do right angles (for corners or adjoining arched corridors you cant. I have a feeling it may be difficult to do, especially to join the different sized arches, but if it would only work for the same sized arches that would be fantastic.

    Schis

I agree - the "corner" arch pieces would be brilliant - both the outside and inside pieces would be needed. Vaulted ceilings would then be possible. After all, what Minecraft cathedral would be complete without vaulted ceilings? :)

I too am avoiding upgrading from 1.7.10 because every other time I have upgraded, it breaks my world. Life's too short to keep redoing broken buildings. I am not a technical person. I don't know why they break, but I notice some blocks are completely replaced by other blocks, and rotatable blocks all seem to re-set to face the one direction. UGH! Cathedral, Abbey, Castle, Port and Lighthouse are being rebuilt too many times. I barely have a town because I spend too much time rebuilding old stuff.

I never want to upgrade again. What a waste of time.

    Hey Greg_Ewing, I have a suggestion:

Given that it would be lovely to have arches with spans of 5 blocks or more, would it be possible for you to make those in one piece? ie there are many models that fill more than just the 1x1x1 block (eg statues like the angel in my previous post is from the XtraBlocks mod by Mindkrafter)

I can draw a diagram if I am not making sense.

PS I am using MC 1.7.10 (cos my favourite and most necessary mods don't support anything later) and I don't know if you have different additions in your mod for later version.

I am also surprised at the number of people liking this mod (like, this is page 9 already) and yet so few have posted their creations.

Having said that, here is the beginnings of my upgrading of my cathedral interior.

On the left is the old/clunky arches using roof/slope style pieces from a Kaevator-style mod. That was the best "arches" I could make. ..till now....

On the right is my new design, using proper arches - each span is 7 blocks, so I went for a "trefoil" arch, using 2 halves of the 4-span arch set, with a 3-span for the centre. I also added columns, and trim.

Note, this is not a rebuild, but a re-furnish of the existing structure. Seriously, if I did a complete rebuild, I would never finish my world. lol. I mean, I haven't even yet built the facade of my cathedral. (note the "blue sky" to the right of the screen) Sigh.

Anyway people, please post some of your creations using ArchitectureCraft.

I just discovered an... unexpected effect when applying cladding to a block made of a transparent material. It renders both the cladding material and the base material!

I can't decide whether this is a bug or a feature. What do people think? Should I leave it in?

I would prefer to not include the base material. Cladding should replace the existing material altogether. Same as if there was a solid block with a glass cladding - I would prefer to have the transparent show only, and not the solid.

Double-textures are weird. I can think of plenty of instances where you would want a different texture, but none where you would want both. If someone specifically wants this hybrid texture, they should create it as a texture in its own right.

Having just tried it however, I didntt get the double-texture bug anyway.

And I did notice a curious feature of placing a transparent cladding on a solid roof... you get a skylight where you can see inside, but if you are inside, you just see the back of the slope, and it looks like an ordinary roof.

Further to above, at first I wondered why in creative mode, I did not get a tab or tabs with a whole bunch of arches, columns, etc in different materials, then I read further..... I love the idea of creating all your blocks using any full block. .... including those from mods. Oh what a joy! Oh the creativity of it all!

I have made a bridge spanning a great ravine, and now I feel the need to remodel my cathedral with better arches and columns. I will of course have to replace every staircase balustrade in the entire town, and every gabled roof is in for an overhaul with these new overhangs. ....and I have barely started experimenting properly with cladding.

Sigh, a MineCrafter's job is never done. lol

A question regarding arches: is it possible to include corners in the future? By that I am referring to the vaulted ceilings in cathedrals and undercrofts. You know how they have an arch that sort of crosses over another arch, creating both an inside join and an outside join. (If this makes little sense I can give you a diagram)

A second question (for the curious in me) is What software did you use to create these shapes? Techne, while popular, cannot do anything beyond rectangular blocks (and creative use thereof). Is there software I could use to perhaps create shapes for you to include?

Anyway, in my opinion, as a creative Minecrafter, this mod gets my vote for best mod of the year. No really, arches and columns have been much anticipated for several years. Kudos to you.

Hey MindKrafter, and anyone else wanting arches, spheres, round corners, round columns, and more....

Have you guys seen ArchitectureCraft? I just discovered it here.... http://www.cosc.canterbury.ac.nz/greg.ewing/minecraft/mods/ArchitectureCraft/

With apologies to MK if I offend you for advertising another mod here, but this one just made my jaw drop. I am still pinching myself to be sure I am not dreaming. A lot of the stuff I have been sweating over for a couple of years, and there it is on one mod. You can craft amazing things never before seen in Minecraft, using any full block. Now all the textures in XtraBlocks can be ROUND!!!!

Well what are you waiting for - go have a look!

How do I use this thing?

Let me quote the front page of this thread, in case you missed it......

XtraBlocks A range of mods that add a wide variety of new blocks, Lighting, liquids
and items to Minecraft. Includes many blank numbered blocks that you can add your own textures to.

Bring your adventure maps or creative builds to life with a huge range of variety.

Have you ever wanted more texture's without sacrificing vanilla blocks.
Do you want more lighting options? Torches, Lamps & Light Blocks
How about colored and stained glass, or more variety of stairs and slabs?
Ever wish that buttons/pressure plates would hold your doors open a bit longer... or maybe a lot longer?
Maybe you even wanted more liquids, doors, cakes, fences and gates or multi-textured blocks?

This is a very large mod, with well over a thousand blocks. It has been designed so that you can use as few or as many as you require.
There are quite a few useful blocks that come already textured, but the vast majority of blocks have blank textures (numbered for convenience) that you need to texture yourself.
