I do wish sometimes there was a friends list, but then I don't want this game to get too meta. Not because I wanna say I played minecraft before u could /whisper while you were fighting a dragon, that sounds too hipster, i just think the experience is so unique I don't want to ruin it. I sorta find it fun organizing games through phone calls and txts, not having anyone bother me in game and having the game feel like its a game that's creating a genre. I didn't sign up for minecraft mmo. But seriously, a super simple off/online and buddy list would be awesome.
I think it would add atmosphere to the game, but nothing more. Except maybe a way to find lava.
It would also make the Nether look more dangerous then it is.
Yea, adding atmosphere is the goal i would think. The game has so many little things that dont do much except ass atmosphere, rain, cave and other ambient noises. I think this is another ambient visual effect that would make lava look more dangerous, and underground caverns more ominous.
I thought about that, but i thought then any fire u had would have the distortion above it. Then u gotta add little distortion to torches. I thought that would cheapen the effect and make it sorta trivial. Thats why I thought maybe only above lava pools that have a certain area. like 2x2 or 3x3. But imagine tunneling into a lava cave and the whole room is wavy and smokey almost. A zombie is coming at you through the fog and its hard to see. I think the resulting experience would be awesome.
Lol yes that heat really likes making those air particles vibrate :smile.gif: If something gets hot the particles vibrate in it.If a bunch of particles vibrate the object melts or burns from the energy the particles are giving off.So when ever air gets hot it appears to vibrate.But if something is cold the particles are not moving at all so thats why water turns into ice or something solidifies.But obviously i know where your coming from so i approve of this idea.

I just think Notch has focused so tightly on ambiance with sound, lighting, and blocks that the visuals would be a super cool addition. Physics aside (minecraft is obviously a physic sim imo) the actual effects would looks awesome imo.
I always thought it would be cool, though I have no idea if its possible, to have the distortion and refraction you find above a fire or a heat source in real life to happen above lava pools in minecraft. I think having it above every block of lava source would cheapen the idea a little, but maybe above lava pools that have a minimum of 3x3 of lava would make sense. The air around the lava would be distorted slightly, giving it the feel that you really are in a deep, underground lava pool. Maybe it could be turned on and off with fancy/fast graphics. Even above ground 3x3 lava pools would feel hotter and all the more dangerous if you could almost feel the heat coming off them. Sadly I couldn't find a post worthy picture on the interwebs but I'm sure everyone knows the look I'm aiming for.
I definitely like the cobble better. I'm using the geruduku's pack so it looks good no matter what. i tend to not use invedit so cobble is practical and aesthetic :happy.gif:

I usually like to set up my house, however that may be, and gather ladders and torches and dig straight down. I make a 2 block wide tunnel with ladders on one side, torches on the other til i hit a cave and branch out.

Awesome thought in the "i used to walked 10 miles to school both ways uphill in the snow" kinda way. Badass old-schoolery(?) Sucks in practice imo. Ive had more fun with this game after i discovered the amazing community you become a part of after buying minecraft.
Though seeds dont work this way, it would be cool if there was a way to put a "special" seed into the generator and get something the developers intended. I cool world with not so random scenery and designed terrain.
