Us learning about her isn't character progression. Especially when most of the learning was done in an OVA.

If you can forgive the Nothing Happening, then it's a decent show. But really, that nothing happening made it incredibly dull and terribly predictable.
Then I'm really bad at mystery animes cause they had me fooled on quite a few details. The only thing that was predictable for me was:
Yeah, I felt that Another did a great job when it came to building up tension and it had a decent ending, even though there were several plot-points never explained but that I'd like to see the explanation of. However, it was entertaining indeed. The ending of Another was just so fast, it was insane. And at the same time, it felt so realistic; No protagonist-superpowers or any illogical stuff.
It's like the writer said to himself when he was making the anime, "Let's see just how many people we can kill in this ending and just how fast we can do it, all while answering the important questions that haven't been answered."
Aside from Misaki's doll eye. Still wondering why on earth that can see the color of death when it's just a doll eye, but this is in the same world where people die if their is an undead in the classroom for some reason so yeah.
As a gore lover, I absolutely adored that ending.
And as a romance lover as well who has a soft spot for emo chicks, the very last part of the ending made me love it even more.
Another was terribly silly, especially with the amount of Nothing Changed when it comes to characters.
I enjoyed the visuals, though. And when they weren't involved in silliness the atmosphere was nice.
I'll give it to you for most of the characters, but that's probably due to the fact that most of them were too busy dying or going insane to actually advance in any real character progression, but you can't say nothing happened regarding Misaki.
I'd hardly call it nothing happening when the series leads you to believe that misaki is some kind of dead person and the source behind all the problems at the beginning and then the viewer slowly begins to realize she's just another girl with emotional problems, minus the doll eye.
On a side note, this has been asked many times before, and a quick search would have yielded you an answer.
I'm interested in seeing what would happen if you closed this thread and then compiled everything said in this thread into a Mod related FAQ sticky post to save you the trouble of saying this all the time.

While your sarcastic/naive example is an extreme case, I'm willing to be you'd be surprised at just how many times video games can negatively influence a child.
I had a graph somewhere, can't seem to find it... I'll show you if I find it again. Anyway, there was a pretty big drop in violent crime around when Doom was released, and it hasn't gone up since then except for time periods of maybe 1 or 2 years. Basically the theory is that if they're busy shooting stuff in video games they just decide to play video games instead of murdering stuff IRL.

OT: It was only a recommendation anyway, aside from those cases where dealers won't sell a game to a child because of the rating.
It's the parents' decision, it's always been the parents' decision, and the ratings are there to help guide the parents that need the guidance. If they weren't there, a lot of parent's wouldn't give a second thought about giving her son/daughter a video game at a certain age that he/she may not be able to handle, depending on the game and the age and maturity of the child, which would end up with more kids with with more mental problems, whether it range from a simple change in attitude for the worse to permanent mental scaring.
With a good example being most of the 10-15 year olds you see playing CoD. You gonna tell me that feeding a teenager, that was already prone to getting mad to begin with because of his age, even more reasons to rage is healthy for him? Hardly.
Do not underestimate just how fragile a young human mind can be, regardless of how eager they want to tell you otherwise.
